These update shows are the best. Just guys and gals hanging out. Awesome chemistry. Also the ability of Sevan to interrupt people is outright a superpower...

Cuts inspire competition. Always on the hot seat. No complacency. Be better.

The earned their spot to the games. They should be allowed to compete start to finish.

Surprised to hear Hinshaw say lactate causes muscle fatigue. His methods undoubtedly work. But it’s interesting that he’s hanging on to that myth.

I bet if there was less divisions the judges and staff would be less tired for the main event competitors

CUTS: if one wants to see a "specialist" crush a "specialist" event, just watch the best "specialists" in the world and not the CrossFit Games... Because, guess what, the best "specialists" aren't, per definition, CrossFitters. They're Strongmen, Olympic Weightlifters, Gymnasts, Runners, Swimmers or... Cyclists. Personally, when it's CrossFit Games time, I only care about finding the Fittest CrossFitter at the CrossFit Games on a specific year. So, IMHO, cuts at the Games are fine and they make for a great show... It'd be different if the claim wasn't to find the Fittest on Earth.

I know the air quality thing is a small portion of this podcast, but I truly think it is a PSYOP. Yes, there are actual fires, the cause or reason to the fires is up for discussion and yes it can cause health concerns, but I think the focus and almost "scare tactic" like warning about all this is overblown and intended as a PSYOP. Maybe a great discussion for Sevan to have in a call in show?!

As a fan I do not enjoy the cuts. Everyone affects placing regardless of position and it makes it more exciting for us viewers.

Also, don’t people win money for placing in each event? Why take away that incentive for half the field in a sport where they already don’t make a ton of money?

In regards to cuts, I have a similar view to Pat Velner. If you’re crowning the fittest then it’s the fittest of all the tests hence they have all the events. They take all of the events to challenge different things from skills to fitness to recovery etc It’s redundant to have people there if they’re not completing all of the tests. I get their point of why they’re cutting people especially if the field is significantly disproportionate. But in that case change the method for how you make the top 40. Especially when the money changes and probably matters more and help out those bottom 20 who are paying their way there and losing out to complete. Don’t give out token representation spots to cut them the first chance you get and they’ve paid a lot to get there with less sponsorship. If they don’t want the staff to do the long hours don’t film the bottom 2 heats etc. But the programming is a whole weekend test so everyone should be tested otherwise you’re in positions but haven’t completed the entire test. So yeah I think for money for the programming etc you should be letting it play out. I get Sam’s point though of rewarding the progression so to speak but I think when there’s so much on the line everyone should be completing the tests.

Hinshaw named more than 10 athletes he coached and didn’t mention a few. Wonder who the uncoachable big names are?

"fanbases" don't work the way Bill thinks they do. The number of fans who are so attached to a single athlete and will turn off the program after they're cut is statistically insignificant. We are watching the competition to see the competition not to watch our best friends workout in 25th place

I feel like the conversation is always “if the programming is right.” But they’re testing for the unknown and unknowable to be the fittest in the world. If we have “the right programming” how does that translate to the unknown and unknowable? Obviously you don’t want workouts that only showcase a single modality, but outside do the athletes who travel and get cut right away I don’t have a problem with them

On that note, I don’t believe the cuts add anything to the viewership at the end of the week

Love listening to Hinshaw. But saying that he's never going to be strong because he doesn't have enough fast twitch fibres isn't exactly true. EVERYONE can train to get stronger, unless they have some sort of degenerative disease. But not everyone can train to become more explosive. That's largely a genetic component. A good example would be this: you can't train your vertical jump to get from 24" to 40". You might get from 24" to 26" with training.

Bill on the cuts. "Well just dont semd them...". Bill it is not about finding the fittest it is about representation from other countries. Hypotheticaly the 60th fittest american who is fitter than the one spot avaialbe for Africa cant go yon the games. The process is a mixture of marketing and the fittest.
