Actually no he did not he had a career-high 4.8 yards per carry that year "During the 2011 season, Moreno split playing time with Willis McGahee, and soon lost the starting job due to McGahee's performance. Moreno still averaged a career-high 4.8 yards per carry. His season was cut short on November 15, 2011 when the Broncos placed Moreno on the IR after he tore his ACL against the Kansas City Chiefs."

Robert Fraser puu.sh/bKQAt/ce0fd991bb.jpg puu.sh/bKQD0/790004c26c.jpg puu.sh/bKQGK/f3198e90a2.jpg Conclusion: Crossfit = meaningless if it doesn't translate to performance on the field. He returned to his pre crossfit weight after stopping crossfit and began playing again. Crossfit might be good for soccer moms who have nothing else to do all day, but it's not for athletes. You want to know what Crossfit hero, Rich Froning does to prepare for Crossfit games? NOT Crossfit!

Hymen Buster Anybody can unfortunately tear their ACL playing football. You get hit in your knees all day long something is bound to happen eventually. Kiko Alonso tore his ACL Power lifting. Does that mean power lifting is bad for you as well no. I'm assuming from your opinion on crossfit, you have never tried it before? but your are quick to judge.

Robert Fraser I tried CrossFit for a month prior to this comment and it was the biggest waste of money and time that I have ever spent. Doing exercises with shit form (as he displays in this video), will lead you to be more prone to injuries. That was my point on the acl. But let's dismiss the ACL part. What about everything else that I posted? What excuses do you have to dismiss those?
@robertfraser4224
@robertfraser4224 10 жыл бұрын
Hymen Buster maybe he didn't have a good coach lol. Crossfit does leave you very sore. i'm not disputing that. But I just started crossfit myself and I don't have great form. i'm doing it to get myself back in shape and work on proper form. I honestly get different reactions from everybody. But it all depends who your coach is, how dedicated that person is, and how teachable you are.

Ended up spending the season on the bench, then went back to his traditional training methods, put the weight back on, recovered from his injuries and went back to being successful.

Dumbell curls, can't quite say we even do those. The clean or the clean & jerk replace a dumbell curl. We have dumbells, but unless you are doing them yourself, a static movement such as the dumbell curl, is not included in a wod.

ItsVinz Your intelligence is properly displayed by your amazing grammatical skills. He benched, squatted, did EMOTM work, the list goes on--all things that happen in every box. What you don't seem to understand is that a crossfit workout is typically built up of two parts: Strength/skill work: squats, bench, snatches, cleans...power/oly lifting work that all you fuckbois are obsessed with. The second part is the WOD that incorporates the skill work into a workout. Every box incorporates traditional training and WOD-style workouts in order to build well rounded athletes. Yes, some boxes are fucking terrible and the coaches don't give a shit; but the real ones that produce games athletes are full of people who give two shits about form and know a thing or two about lifting. You can keep arguing with me all you want, and I know you will because you think that your opinion is golden and no-one but you is right.

sadasd asdasdasd Football is known as a sport where power and strength are the most important factors but many players who have achieved extreme strength lack aerobic recovery over the long term and can preform explosively in the beginning of the game but not at the end, like when coaches say games are won in the fourth quarter. So endurance doesn't have as much of a major role as i does in sports like soccer and basketball but football players do benefit from stamina/endurance training.

I'm not going to sit here and call anyone stupid, but let me just post something for all to see... Knowshown Moreno (KM) Was drafted in 2009. In 2009, he played in all 16 games of his rookie year and started 9 games total. He rushed for 947 yards and 7 TDs, and also had 2 receiving TDs. Not a bad rookie year. In 2010, He played and started 13 games. He had 779 yards and 5 TDs, Also had 3 TDs receiving. Not bad, but not as good as we hoped he would do. Shortly after the end of the 2010 season, Moreno dropped in weight from around 220 to about 195, specifically to train in cross-fit. He spent the 2011 season on and off the bench due to a nagging hamstring injury all season, only had 179 yards rushing, and no TDs. 2012, his second straight year training with Cross-fit, was no different. Not only was his hamstring still bothering him, but he ended up tearing his ACL. And if you look it up, there are specific studies that talk about how a lot of cross-fit lifts not only take flexibility out of your muscles, but it also destroys a lot of muscle stamina. Shortly after 2012, KM was quoted saying that he "had put cross-fit training in his rear view mirror" and that it just wasn't for him. In 2013, after gaining his weight back and going back to more of a power lifting mentality, he had a breakout year, and the best year of his young career. He rushed for 1,038 yards and 10 TDs. He also had over 500 receiving yards and added 3 more touchdowns. He played in all 16 games as well. The statistics don't lie. Cross-fit, in my opinion, is not for sports like football. If you like cross-fit, good for you. But if you want to get bigger and stronger, just get in the gym and lift weights. Look up some body builders like Kai Greene or Jay Cutler and tell me if you would rather look like them or look like Matt Chan.

Like? What other type of program trains people to be like an athlete? I only know of Crossfit that does this. It uses olympic lifts in the workout. It's like how a Military person would train for combat. There is no use to be able to bench x amount of weight, or squat x amount of weight to people like a boxer, martial artist, military, basketball player...etc. Stamina, endurance, speed, agility and strength are all important to someone like that. Just slow heavy weights does not aid that
@rhythmnsmoke
@rhythmnsmoke 11 жыл бұрын
This is where you fail to understand what Crossfit programs are like. I can tell you haven't experienced a crossfit program based on your comment. We do max days as well. Endurance is NOT the only part of Crossfit. You build strength by doing 1 rep maxes. I weighed about 235lbs when I started Crossfit. I'm down like 215 and I deadlift 440lbs. The heavy lift is not Omitted in Crossfit. It's a "part" of the program, but not the only part like regular weightlifting (one dimensional).

Pretty sure they don't as we have dumbells there. You kind of just have to do that on your own though if you want, as it's not included in WODs. Crossfit WODs involve compounded body movements (i.e. Thruster is a movement that involves the whole body). Nothing about dumbell curls is aerobic or compounded. It's sitting there and curling and that's it, no heavy oxygen demand for the muscles. Getting Bulk is not in a Crossfit WOD. Stamina, agility, speed and strength usually are one in a WOD
@rhythmnsmoke

That's just it though. Deadlift would be followed by an 800m run, Burpees then a set of double unders or some wallballs. Then you would have to repeat that either as many times as possible for a give time, or a specified number of rounds as fast as you can. He may be able to do 1000lbs but can he do 500lbs with everything else listed for 5 rounds in under 8min. Those are just hypothetical numbers but you get the idea.

From your comment I already can tell you have never done it. Secondly how you figure that men differ in getting into shape than women. Working out is working out. You don't think the men lift the same weight as women do you? Men do the same WOD as the women but where weight might be set at 65lbs for the women, it would be like 135lbs for the men. I've lost 25-30lbs since being in it, and I'm stronger than I have ever been in my life. Don't speak on something you have never tried.

We do max deadlifts, front squats, back squats, snatch, squat snatch, clean & jerk...etc. Crossfit is strength training, endurance training, agility, speed, flexibility (mostly upper body flexibility) all rolled up into one program. You never do the same thing in the same combinations, each day is different.

They do strength training in Crossfit too. I train in Martial Arts also. Big is not suitable for someone who needs to be explosive and mobile. It's the difference between how a baseball player gets in shape and how a bodybuilder does for a competition. One is an athlete, and trains for functionality, the other does not.

you may be able to do a heavy curl but you would still get schooled by a crossfitter in the snatch, clean and jerk, squat, bench, over head press, rope climb, deadlift, row, pullups, endurance, stamina, power, explosiveness, speed, etc. The functional movements that are actually important.

Curls help in kick boxing and bjj. For kick boxing it helps your clinch and control for knees.... in bjj it helps close guard and also helps defend against getting your arm ripped off in an arm bar... also the additional girth will help in defense as well for bjj and kick boxing. Judo and most martial arts use many push and pull motions that benefit from strong biceps. In basketball bicep strength helps will pulling down rebounds and stripping the ball in basketball AND football.

I think crossfit is good for athletes of a certain level. Just there is no universal principle. I still believe indivual thinking needs to be involved in a training plan. I still believe in specificity. With Moreno he already had a base strength level coming into crossfit. I just don't think crossfit should be the start for most beginners. It's too random when beginners need consistency. Just think about it would Moreno train and learn soccer plays to be good in the NFL? This is crossfits thinki

lmao why? to show off to you? Sorry I'm not stooping to your level to prove that I can do something as menial as that. Frankly if you want a real strength exercise show something that power lifters do, or if you like curls you can do an old school strict curl. Bench/Dead Lift/Squat are strength. Cheating curls aren't recognized by anyone because they don't do anything for your body strength wise or aesthetically.

Why should someone care about their dumbbell curl numbers? Why should someone ever care about any number they can put up in a isolated exercise? It doesn't matter in any aspect of life (except in those lifts) so the idea of Crossfit is better for your life, it makes you do bigger movements and move your body the way it is meant to be. You may think its not a sport, but how can something that is built up on many kinds of sports not be a sport it self? with that said, Crossfit is a sport!

I think you're underestimating the endurance strongmen has. But i see your point. Personally i think the baseline for crossfit is fine, but the way its performed, where you sacrifice your body and form for a better time is silly. Also the way that for example pullups is done. You're not completely focussing on using your muscles, but more about mastering the best kipping technique so you can do more, and do them faster. That's just silly to me, why not quality over quantity?

What does it show you that an Athlete... an actual athlete not a "crossfitter" who trains traditionally can jump right into this. And for when he talks about blocking at 7:20 he should know most footballers bench with their elbows in. Look at any combine on bench. Stop fucking with the NFL's athletes. They risk and jeopardize their joints on the field every day. Don't want them fucking them up in your gyms.

Kettlebell swings shouldn't be compared to running. Kettlebell swings are used to make you use your hips and develop your explosiveness. A large number of CF gyms have coaches who will not allow improper form. Most of the coaches I've encountered care. Some at-home crossfitters don't have proper coaching and their forms suffers, along with guys doing more conventional workouts. Kettlebell workouts have been used in sports for decades, its just becoming more common to see it with regular Joes.

I'm not willing to say that all crossfit boxes are garbage but let's be honest about the lack of quality control throughout crossfit. Just because someone is in good shape themselves and paid $1000 for a weekend certification doesn't necessarily make them a good trainer.

Oh I see. Well again, thats a bit of a flexibility issue but having a bit of experience with heavy front squats I can definitely relate. Your upper back really has to stabilise the weight, but as it gets heavier your legs might be able to handle the weight but your upper back not (definitely for me as my legs are kind of way ahead of my upper body). I've had times where once I hit the bottom and come up my elbows are a lot lower than what they should be.

Colleges have the best as many pro's do not like the program their strength coach uses and they use their college coach,do their own thing or do not lift. Walter Payton developed his own program. One portion called Payton's hill was renown as he would bring in team mates and other athletes to run up the side of a hill that was unbelievably steep.

In football curls help you develop arm under speed.That is the position you take as a lineman or WR going into a blocking position. You need to drive both arms from your sided to up to chest level. The defender is taught to push your arms down.So,the bicep comes into play. Many people believe that bicep is all show no go,but it plays an important role in sports.

Moreno lost his starting job going into 2011 season, then a couple games into the season, tore his ACL. 2012 was the worst yards per carry average since his rookie year. Crossfit is a new and exciting workout/sport that is excellent for motivating people to lose body fat and building muscle. However, it does not, nor should it try to replace sport-specific training.

Does that count too. They were born and raised in America and are just as American as people of European descent.

Blah blah blah.. CrossFit doesn't work.. I keep hearing that. Well, I've lost 30 pounds in about 2 months and a week by doing a WOD everyday. I've gone up 100lbs on clean and jerk and about 135lbs on squats. Going to Planet Fitness and doing curls isn't going to give someone the results I've gotten. But yea.. CrossFit doesn't work..

Louie Simmons can explain this a lot better than I. By pounding out those style work outs, you're never going to get stronger. You just can't generate enough force. You will get faster and build youre endurance for those activities, but you'll flatten out. By omiting the heavy squat, deadlift and even bench you're cutting you're training short.

Andy bolten is a 1000lb dead lifter. I bet he can pull 500lbs faster than you can pull 135. You cant lift a heavy weight slow and you cant lift ultra light weight to get stronger. Most Xfitters implement westside barbell training and i think you would find it interesting because heavy doesnt mean slow.

It's not about who can lift more or who can run the farthest or do the most pull ups, its just a way of life to be the fittest, strongest & have the most endurance possible for everything in life, not just in competition, yeah strongmen can lift heavy shit but they couldn't run up & down the beach with their kids for more than 10 minutes!!

I'd like to see your CF champions compete with the strongest strongmen in their competition. A strongman could compete in the CF championship, tho he'd get a shitty time, but a CF champ couldnt even do one of the exercises a strongman does. GL doing a farmers walk with 440kg for 40m. Cardio > brute strength, and thats what crossfit is, cardio with weights and silly ass pullups.

I think its funny when people say he's a scrub or he sucks. Being a scrub or even a tackle dummy in the NFL is better then anything athletically you have done. Or you would be in the NFL. Also to the people that say CrossFit is lame and all that. If it was so easy then why don't you compete and go to the CF Games, cause you know its easy

im not saying i can outlift every guy who does crossfit in one rep max's across the board( what i train for) but what im saying is, you take the guy who did crossfit for a year, put him in a more refined s/c program for power and strength, and he will be far better compared to the version of himself that did crossfit.

to say "no pro athletes do crossfit is absurd. there are many pros who do crossfit in the off season to stay in shape. you can research that on youtube. also, you are commenting on a video with a PRO ATHLETE doing crossfit, so your point is completely invalid.

6:20's comment is spot on. An athlete that already has elite fitness but not familiar with our techniques. Some Crossfit enthusiasts get caught up in their own hype and claim to be "fitter" than pro athletes. Those type of cross fitters can attract negative attention

The joke is that 99 % of crossfitters have terrible form and use 60 % momentum and 50 % strength on every exercise. The worst part is that this bad form is encouraged by the trainers since all they do is scream “one more rep”. crossfit is the leading cause of injury in the gym

crossfit is damn joke. you cannot make an argument for me that says doing 20 reps of snatches followed by a sprint, followed by deadlifts, then pullups, then back to another olympic lift, is in any way shape or form good for your body. olympic lifts are not meant to be performed in a fatigued state.

Depends on what you mean by muscles. Crossfit probably isn't for someone who wants to bulk up a lot, because the intense cardo aspect of it uses a lot of calories. On the other hand, if you want to build lean muscle and improve explosive strength, than Crossfit far outstrips traditional weightlifting.

lol have you seen super heavyweight olympic weight lifters? they're the same size, some are even bigger than you and fatter too, yet they have the flexibility to do front squats, cleans, etc. You really gotta work on it mate, do wrist & tricep stretches and wrist & shoulder mobility exercises.

Too bad Knowshon lost his starting position in 2011, I guess kipping pull-ups don't help you play running back in the NFL. And the trainer says this will help him 'move faster under a heavier load', and then the poor guy tears his ACL...

We do strength as only "part" of crossfit. Like maxing out for example. We have max out days also. Like I said though, that's just one small part of the total package.

The box squat isn't bad form at all, in fact it's even harder to do than a normal squat. especially when you sit all the way down then explode back up like that. This Crossfit actually seems different, most of the crap I normally see is stupid, retarded squats, stupid swinging pull-ups and what not.

Gabriel Hernandez You're fucked if you think ATG squats are bad for your knees. If you had done any kind of REAL training that wasn't some fruit pebble bullshit like crossfit, you'd know that a proper ATG squat puts much more stress on the hips and lower back than the knees. But hey, if you like being weak, that's your issue

I've tried crossfit many times and I've spent time researching it. I admire the intensity of the workouts and guys like Froning are in great shape, but when you get to a fitness level like Froning, its not crossfit that making him strong, its the other 3-4 workouts a day he's doing. Crossfit is an exercise fad whose lack of structure and logical progression are damning. The design of most of the workouts is arbitrary and at times dangerous. Theres a reason no pro athletes do crossfit.
