Welcome to Crossing America Season Four at Mammoth Cave National Park, hosted by Expeditions in Education in collaboration with the National Park Foundation! In this incredible episode, Ranger Jennifer brought the story of Sloan Pond to life. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the 1930s, this manmade pond stands as a testament to their efforts to restore and preserve the park's ecosystem.
We explored the rich history of the CCC’s work, learned how Sloan Pond supports wildlife and scientific research, and challenged students to design their own conservation projects inspired by this historic site. Of course, we couldn’t leave without celebrating with some fun and creativity, including our signature "Leech Dance" to highlight the importance of all pond life-even the slimy ones!
