What an amazing conclusion to Magolor’s arc. He always had an ego, and inherently wanted to feel superior. But he also had simple aspirations and passions, like traveling, building attractions or parks, or opening shops and… maybe making people happy, too. The dream of building an amusement park of his own always lingered in his mind, overshadowed by his more selfish desires. He visited Halcandra one day during his travels, and became entranced by all its reputed riches, so much so that he was there for a very, very long time, not really having any friends around. It was a lonely time. Then one day he found the Lor and an ancient tome, discovering the crown’s existence after thinking it was a fairytale. He even learned of a hero from Popstar at one point from a few enemies of Kirby’s. Then, his journey of treachery began. He lost against Landia and fled to Popstar, having Kirby get his ship parts back after learning from the mistakes of Kirby’s other foes, soon feeling a bit jealous of Kirby’s great power, thus getting even more antsy to get the crown and be on top. But then again, Kirby’s act of kindness also baffled and touched him, being he was a complete stranger to him. He even asks Kirby why he’d help at all, to which Kirby can’t understand the question. That’s just his unflinching nature. This nature rubs off on Magolor, with him revealing through a moment of genuine reflection that he would probably do the same if someone was in need. But then Magolor deflects, saying he wouldn’t hesitate to help out Kirby if he were in need. It’s a simple statement of friendship that Magolor intended as a way to further trick Kirby, but in reality, it’s a truth and a promise, as we see in Star Allies, Kirby Clash, even here. Deep down, even he knows this to be true. At one point, he also confesses to Kirby that he lied about some things, like living in Halcandra, which is something that he absolutely wouldn’t do if he didn’t grow to like Kirby in some way. He didn’t just want to bring Kirby there to fight Landia, he wanted to finally share his passions with someone. To make things right, he even tells him about his lifelong dream, and wishes for Kirby to visit his shops as he one day attempts to build the best theme park in the universe! Yes, at some point, Magolor really did see Kirby as a genuine confidant, someone he can relay his feelings to. Perhaps he does this because he used to be alone for so long back on Halcandra, so he’s learned to not completely undermine the value of friendship. He’s had fun playing games and making challenges for Kirby, honored to know and chat with him, and genuinely loves Popstar and the kind people, so now, he’s almost regretting things. But he’s too proud to deter from his “genius” plan now. So instead, he pledges that he and Kirby remain good friends forever and wherever they meet, suddenly realizing as he says this that he almost means it, and thus feels bad for a moment. These brief moments reveal everything about Magolor, and who he really is as a character deep down. His goal was never to destroy Popstar or Kirby, it was just to rule over them. He still retains his more devious side and enjoys pranks and gloating, since that’s just who he is, but the crown also elevated his evil, trapping him thanks to its long history of malice, carried on by many rulers before him, including himself… Magolor thought he could control everything, but the irony was that something controlled him instead. Now, he can’t fight it’s growing power. The internal struggle worsens and his evil consumes him… This isn’t the kind of power he wanted! This doesn’t feel grand, this feels like… a violation. He’s a possessed, sad shell, and as his soul is being contorted and devoured, it hurts! He realizes he’s gonna fade away completely if nothing is done fast. It’s embarrassing to do it, since he would’ve liked this to go his way, and the way Kirby didn’t really react in awe to his great plan was also a bit insulting, but… he’s his only hope now. And he knows he’s reliable. He tosses him an apple for health, and his last shred of will vanishes. All that’s left for him… is a nightmarish Void. And there Magolor helplessly watches the battle, waiting for this to be over so he can see Kirby again and have fun just teasing playfully like before. So he keeps weakly crying out in fear, pain, regret, and urgency, calling for Kirby, asking him to free him, holding out his hand hoping that his new friend will take it and finally break this wretched thing on his head, saving his lost soul. Then Magolor awakes, and he’s alone and weak. It’s a scary place, and he’s in a scary state. He’s never been disabled like this, and it’s horrifying. He’s at rock bottom, and it’s enough to make him cry. He’s been brought down farther than he can handle. It’s ironically pathetic in a way, but… sad. Worst of all, he’s all alone again. He travels the realm, overcoming fear and getting his powers back, eager to feel on top again. He goes through many of Kirby’s same trials, so he gets to reflect on a harsher pain of the trials he put him through. He still feels salty over his defeat by Kirby, but only for a short time, as he remembers he wouldn’t even be alive if it wasn’t for him. He starts to feel… guilty. And the more he restores his powers, the less he wants to become a big bad boss again. He thinks, maybe having bigger bombs would make for cool fireworks shows, or maybe having a stronger shield would mean protecting those he loves instead of just himself, and maybe he’d use his mischief to make fun attractions, instead. Suddenly, the more appealing thought to him… is to be able to soar endlessly alongside his friends again. He even states himself at one point that he doesn’t really want to rule over anything now. He had gotten the power he always wanted, but it didn’t have the desired feeling of euphoria or glory for long. Then, Magolor is horrified to see the remains of the Master Crown. He didn’t want anything to do with it again, but here it is. He sees the Doomer as something he once was: a greedy, helpless pawn. A pain his heart knows well. Now he knows how Kirby must have felt, working so hard to get something only to have a harsh reality thrown in your face afterwards. He fights through the battle, only to become faced with the full result of his sins: a horrifying monster. A new perspective, indeed. *Is this what true power gets you? Nothing but slow corruption and the loss of self? Why would someone want this? ….Why would I want this?* He doesn’t want this. Not after seeing the destruction and cost. He looks around for a way to win, then thinks to himself, what would Kirby do? Then, he sees it. Taking a page out of Kirby’s book, he makes his own Ultra Sword, and is finally rid of its pain and his own evil forever. He settles the score, making the crown pay for torturing him, choosing to atone for his crimes as he takes responsibility for his wicked ways that led him here. And now, everything is saved. Finally, peace… He can go home. Finally, since being tortured by the crown and being put through hell, he can go home to the normal world. No more pain and darkness. The joy is too much to bear as he shakes in relief and anticipation, shedding a tear before entering a new world with open arms, not even caring about the remaining Apple as he leaves. It means nothing to him now. He finds a world that sadly isn’t his Popstar, but at least it’s a friendly one. He has new attire, his sword, and a piece of the Apple left for him to plant, left as thanks. He’s surrounded by people who may need help and the proper services to get by. So, he finds the urge to do just that. The urge that was deep within him all along. The urge to make others happy with his services, and make up for his misdeeds. He doesn’t need to rule the world or be stronger. He knows now that he’s enough, and that he can be bigger than before just by changing the world with his creations and good deeds. Maybe he can even work up the funds and determination to build his park by doing this! He can have a simple life and still feel on top just by putting in the hard work for others. And wouldn’t you know, after he helps Kirby save the land and Kirby helps him once again by visiting his promised “great deals” shoppe, Magolor is beyond thankful and is able to make his lifelong dream a reality, and create something special just for his friends. He visits many worlds and past times to research games that Kirby’s loved to place in his park, adding a bit of mischief to every one (which he admits and feels bad about at times). And when it opens, he’s overjoyed to hear the screams of excitement from everyone, just like he wanted. Most importantly, he’s overjoyed to be spending time with his cool friend again, and is grateful to see him happy there, watching his fireworks. He really, truly is. Finally, he’s relieved of his loneliness and guilt. Now, after missing his true home and finally gaining the Lor’s trust, he feels ready to see his Kirby and Popstar again, maybe make more theme parks for him and his friends as an apology and even play along, keeping his old pledge to remain a friend. He may try to dodge the allegations sometimes for fear of shame, and perhaps can’t help but be a mischievous trickster with an ego, but he still tries to make up for everything. He knows now that power is not worth it, what he already had is. Who knows, maybe this time, if Kirby needs help with a large, perhaps familiar threat, he’ll thank him for everything by lending his strength, and be able to conquer the galaxy by acquiring what he now knows to be the greatest power of all: the power of best friends. What. An amazing. Character arc. I love you, Magolor.

Not only did HAL make an incredible epilogue for a character that had a development arc without us seeing it for the longest time, not only did HAL just casually drop a bomb shell that the alternate magalor from the dream kingdom was just the original magalor this whole time, but Magalor went from trying to rule the universe to selling microtransactions. He may be a good guy now, but he's still up to his bullshit.

I would like to point out two things: 1. This track is called Crossing into the Parallel with You. Suddenly the names of many bosses in SKC actually start making sense - it IS a parallel world, after all. Guess the Parallel Kirby is just. the one we see (and play as) in Kirby Clash. But who is "You"? My best guess is the player. Especially now that we know Epilogue Magolor and Shopkeeper Magolor are the same person, his comments and ability to handle micro transactions also make a lot more sense. Clash!Kirby wouldn't get announcing intentions of taking over Dream Kingdom only to reveal it as a joke - but the player would. 2. The end oc those credits is the first time we hear Magolor laugh. Not letting out a sneaky, suppressed giggle as he blows up Gem Apples, or fires his cannon - but actual, happy laugh.

Realizing that Magolor's Epilogue is something of a prequel to the Kirby Clash series is something I didn't see coming. It makes a lot of sense, but brings up even more questions. That aside, I'm happy that Magolor's happy with the lifestyle he had in the Kirby Clash world. Even if it means he won't be able to make it back to Dream Land for a while. Now we just need some similar epilogue modes for Taranza and Susie if Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot ever get the Deluxe treatment. Especially for Taranza. The poor guy needs it after all he's been through.

Okay but honestly... Magolor Epilogue is epic (I haven't played it yet so try not to spoil too much, I already know the basic details from various comments but that's it, I want to play it for myself). Magolor in lore was confirmed to have been trapped in an alternate dimension after he disappeared at the end of the final boss, later returning in Star Allies after the whole ordeal... but they took it a step further by making an entire gamemode telling that story while ALSO making a canon reason for his appearance in a literal side-game where they use gem apples as currency.

is magolor’s shoppe really so horribly capitalistic? he set up a service where he exchanged goods for a resource that literally grows on a tree a few feet away from him. sure, that got some impatient people to spend a bit more money buying gem apples from him to buy his goods than they would have just buying them directly, but he definitely made a lot less money than he would have if he just charged for his stuff directly.
