I've been on budget travel since 06/Jun/17 to see the world, meet people, and eat local food. What's the country is like? Food? Culture? People? What's the life like there? I heard it's dangerous but is it true? I need to go and see rather than just believe everything I hear from TV, people or the Internet.
Subscribe to my channel and follow my journey! I'll show you great cultures and attractions in each place and how awesome traveling is!
I hope you can enjoy my videos and get inspired to go backpacking!!
Check out my Instagram and twitter too! There you can see where I really am at the moment.

I was waiting for the street sign with the EU flag like we have them everywhere in Europe. La Guyane is a French département outre mer comparable to a province or a county in other countries. So you were in France, EU 🙃

@junfromsomewhereeast5598

Hi Robert, thank you for the comment:) from the bus terminal to the bridge was like 30minutes. You can totally walk:) and English in French Guiana... No. It's like in France. You might find some people like from Suriname and Guyana, or couchsurfers who speak English but basically people speak French.

@@junfromsomewhereeast5598 thank you for your response. Couple more questions, please :) Once you crossed the bridge, how did you manage to reach Cayene ? Did you take a ride or is there a coach service or something ? Once you arrived in Albina, what are the the means of transportation to Paramaribo?
@junfromsomewhereeast5598
@junfromsomewhereeast5598 4 жыл бұрын
There seemed to be a van that takes you to Cayene but it was like 30€ so I hitchhiked. Hitchhiking is easy there. I explained about it a little bit more in another video:) and from Albina, you can take either taxi or local bus. I took a bus. You can ask where the bus stop is. Most people speak English there.

I wasn't able to cross the bridge as I didn't have access to a car. So I just took a boat across the river for 5 Euros. Except you need to get your passport stamped at the FED POLICE building up the road from the river. As I was an EU citizen, I didn't require an entry stamp. But there was a police checkpoints on the way to Cayenne and then on the way to the Suriname side.

Hi Overland Metalhead! Thank you for the comment:) maybe things were different back then. I didn't have a car either but I was able walk all the way from the immigration of Brazil to the bridge and to the other side which is French Guiana.

Robbery yes, gun no. The one that I described as “close call” was the robbery one. There is no country that I wouldn’t visit. I mean, I wouldn’t go to the middle of war zone of course. I’m not the kind of a guy who would go to the dangerous area willingly but country-wise, I would go to all countries if I could:) you can always choose countries that you feel comfortable visiting. I’m sure you will have a great experience and less worrying:)

If you are required to have visa, no matter how you enter, you need to have visa. If it's the only matter of returning ticket to prove that you won't stay illegally then maybe crossing on land is better cuz coming by air is more strict in lots of countries but visa is the same by air, boat and land.

I understand the end goal of what it is that you're trying to do so I advise you to get a visa online to Suriname and then take the ferry from Suriname to French Guiana. The captain of the ship will ask people on the boat if they need to go to the Border Police "station" (it's further along the river) and stamp their passports - you can tell them that you don't need him to make this detour. The issue is, what will you do once you are in French Guiana? If you have a child born there, you can legalise through him, but if you're a young, single man?
