Also wanted to put this out here. I know this is not Mr.L’s actual origin story and that in canon Luigi didn’t voluntarily or even knowingly become him. But this is like maybe sometime afterwards when Luigi has enough and chooses to become mr. L again, but of his own volition. Either that or I can see this being a nightmare Mario would have

Do you know why this song fits with the Mario brothers? “We’ll fix it together me and you” perfectly sums up their relationship. Going all the way back to Donkey Kong. Then you’ve got “ how I’ve tried, to jump that great divide” which is self explanatory. Even the Player 2 metaphor is impressive. Obvious yet complex. If their goal was to make the rest of us sympathize with Luigi Mario they succeeded.

Sorta! This is actually based off the game Super Paper Mario in which (spoilers) Luigi is brainwashed into unknowingly becoming his evil “secret” alter ego Mr.L. A lot of people HC that Mr. L is just all of luigi’s repressed pain, neglect, envy, and resentment. In the same series we actually get a diary entry by Luigi that says how much he admires and wishes he could be like Mario, but Mario is always leaving him behind. So this is like a what if scenario taking place after the events of Super Paper Mario. Like if Luigi finally snapped and VOLUNTARILY became Mr. L again, but this time with full consciousness over his actions.
