good stuff boys, I'm right there with ya.🙂 keep some tension on the furler line and sheets or you'll flog that headsail clew to death.
@DarrellMaddock Жыл бұрын
That was the first time we put the sail up. Plenty of sailing time in all weather conditions will happen before the big day. We also found the furling went on the work side of the shroud, so we have sorted that. It was holding the clew back and causing it to jam

Hey Duncan, had I known you were in havelock, I would've made time to have a beer with you. You are definitely living in the right part of the world, very idyllic and perfect for a boatie. How long have you been based down there?

@@Un-guided ,yea would have been good to catch up.aŕived in Havelock on the 18 th may to pick up supplies and a 50 foot ketch to fix and live on ,cause me and my new lady had baby in October last year , and our boats are to small for a toddler, yes my lady has a 35 ft yacht ,I met her when I came down to Nelson Sept 2020 , to put it back together took ten days to rewire re rigg,and deliver to pelorus, it was on the hard for 5 years ,I returned from wellington December 2020, to finish the work , loved the weather and carm conditions, been living in the kenepuru sound , while restoring a near hundred year old launch ,am fixing another one now too,and getting lots off work at 50perhour,,, been all around both sounds and D'uraville since then , money's really good here as shortage of boat builders , fair winds on your trip mate,I gather your getting paid for a delivery ,catch you up some time

Looking good!😅😂 I think I would haave to clean and paint the bilge, esp the stretch from the stern gland to under the engine sump. A couple of spray aerosols of engine degreaser followed by a wet/dry vacuum + optional lick of paint. She looks like a nice boat! It will be interesting to see how she goes with sail. At the very least the sails will steady her in those rock 'n roll Tasman swells!😊
@DarrellMaddock Жыл бұрын
Plenty of time has been put into cleaning those bildges out. You could eat off them now. They will be getting a nice thick coat of paint.
@stephenmoffat1974 Жыл бұрын
Good luck will be a great crossing . Use your sails for a steadier crossing in conjunction with your motor just ticking along your head sail needs to be wound in so you have a couple of turns around the sail with your sheet ropes-before you cleat it off Enjoy

Windless. Not good for a sailing vessel….lol
@DarrellMaddock Жыл бұрын
It was the first time the sheets went up with us on board, so we made sure it was less than 5 knots of wind. The idea of this day was to get everything up and correct any issues. We found the furling for the jib was on the wrong side of the shroud, which I am sure you saw that. Then, after that, we inspected the sails for any holes and tears and made sure they were running as they should.

Best to dowse the sails and stay with the engine. Trying to sail it like yacht would be hopeless with all the covers over the boat and clear sides . Besides I think the crew need some lessons on the finer points of yachtmanship.

Nice boat but not a crayfish boat. Had the pleasure of fishing with a Stew Ellis on the Searaider out of Riverton in the early 80s. Stew was the saltiest capt. And the Searaider with its 3" thick kiri hall was a true Tasman crayfish boat, without the fluff and pomp of your boat.
@allanmoller9733 Жыл бұрын
Hey David i also done a couple of trips with Stew on the Searaider in the late 80s, and Stew was salty and grumpy bugger. Cheers, My dad Had the Vessel Dusky Bay and fished in Chalky Sound, great memories. Cheers

Hi David. This boat was originally designed to be craying in tassie, but it was never finished and sat in a shed in Tasmania until it was finished off as a pleasure launch. I know the Haggertys in Riverton. There is a lot of great history and people down there. The second episode is up now if you want to view it. Appreciate your great story!

You guys ran an sail experiment? At the fist part in to the wind , Those losse lines to the head sail are not the best impression for a good crew. where are there two Ti-wraps , just furl the sail a bit more and belay the lines better. Then you had no clue how to set sails. Obviously on these big boats you can’t sail sharp at the wind. Abeam is better but if speed is essential you may need that engine too. Wel you learn😊
@DarrellMaddock Жыл бұрын
It's a motorsailer. The plan is to motorsail. This is the first time we had them up on this boat. It was all about inspection and to make sure everything is in operational order and condition more than it was sailing. Did you notice we had less than 5 kn of wind. Normally not the ideal weather for sailing
