I've seen and experienced this in smaller churches; the Pastor would have Sunday after Sunday of these fundraising messages disguise as sermons. One time a Pastor did this and then slipped and said, "We'll get back to the Word next week", What!! That should have told all us right then that this fundraising messages was not the Word of God! It took awhile for me to wake up but thank you Lord Jesus for opening my eyes and delivering me from delusion

My dad used to tell me of a small church he attended a few times years ago in the hills of Tennessee when he was a young man... He said the pastor had the collection plate passed around, then held the plate to test it's weight...the pastor told the congregation it wasn't heavy enough, and passed the plate around again... Seems like nothing has changed... it's actually gotten worse Very sad...and actually scary. The people who follow this doctrine...are doomed if they don't see truth

In order to be able to preach effectively preachers need private jets, luxury cars, million dollar mansions etc. If they are blocked from enjoying a life of luxury then this will result in more people going to hell! And Jesus never said to pick up your cross and follow Him - Jesus said to collect as much money as you can from church members and to keep most all of it for your own private pleasures. Sorry that's why I have an issue with this. When does the "church" or the leaders become its own entity? Where now it's has it's own ambition for things whether the congregation wants it or not. Pastors deserve to be paid but this is crazy. It’s blasphemy! Church goers should support their pastors but these charlatans are the worse. They make Christianity seem like a scheme. Churches have needs and employees. The pastors are the main employees. The amount the pastor gets paid should be voted on by the members of the church and everyone should know how much that pay is. Right now as a junior pastor I have asked for no pay. Yet at times people will give. It’s very humbling. But my senior pastor makes $40k per year from the church and just like myself, also works a full time job. When you have enough members a senior pastor roll becomes a full time job itself. When the phone rings at all times of the night and you are on call 24/7 then you deserve to be paid for that. Read Paul’s writings in the New Testament.

I wouldn’t last in the seat until the end of the service. The term tithe has been mis-used in the church forever. Misinterpretation of first-best. A crop is a profit of the land, not a salary of the land. The intention was to give some percent of a farm yield to the community. This is not preaching, this is church building growth. Every pastor wants this. Even our own church is starting to grow again and we do increase the giving “need” every year as the seats fill further. However, we keep adding staff. We don’t build new buildings, buy new gear. We did rebuild an office area and youth room this year. But or course we will raise the need next year again, likely similarly 6%.
