More units on the field gain experience if you fill everything up.

This is one of the battles where you can actually bring 10 units. Just make sure the initial units deployed include a unit from each division and the extra unit will come in. This works on most side battles with reinforcements. You have a huge amount of extra time in this battle, until 14:00, and you don't have to hold the VP until long after the timer expires. If you retreat across the river out of vision and let the AI reach it's initial positions without spotting anything then they become extremely passive. You can cross the river to the south undetected and then setup whatever kind of encirclement you desire and slowly grind them down from cover. When this approach goes well you can kill everything with fewer than a couple thousand losses. I really don't like the Napoleons due to their awful damage degradation curve. 12pdr howitzers perform slightly better in most cases and the wiards, james, 24pdrs, and 20pdrs all feel like better investments when buying artillery. 10pdr parrots are decent if used at maximum range but you have so much good artillery available as the union that they aren't really necessary.

I usually use the 24 pounders for close range artillery. Not sure why I didn't choose them. As the campaign goes on, I'll definitely try to wipe out the enemy army when possible. Retreating across the river had been my strategy in the past just didn't choose that this time.

I completely agree about the Naps, they are terrible. Even the 6 wiards are better, and they are cheep. The 24 H is the big killer on the battlefield, so I recommend buying every one that is available. - Interesting that even the 12 H is better than the Nap. I always learn something useful from pandakraut.

It certainly feels less gamey if you take what units you can outfit rather than taking fewer troops and (ab)using the scaling mechanic.

just a tip know which battles give you extra time to take the objectives then your not rushed to take them also i would suggest getting a unit of snipers they may not kill a lot of units each volley but the morale hit is huge! when i fought this battle on legendary i used two snipers 2 cannons 24 pounders and napoleons and then i used 1 cav and 4 infantry 2 lorenz and 2 1842 all with 2000 in them ... the lorenz i recommend getting asap the range boost to the infantry is huge and vital to hitting his units before they get the upgraded weapons... for the upcoming battle i recommend 3 cannons on top the hill 2 snipers to support them and route the infantry as it tries to come up the hill at you and 1 unit of infantry there then send all your forces along the bottom of the map to the corner and then up and around to hit him from the rear pushing his units towards your cannon and snipers who now will hit him in the rear and route him ... you can win this battle with huge xp and little casualties! also you only need one objective in the upcoming battle to win it! no need to push for both. Also nice job on this battle! looking forward to watching more of this series :D

While the lorenz is an excellent early rifle and worth upgrading to, the game's tooltips display misleading information about rifle and musket ranges. All muskets and rifles have 300 range which is why the firing cones are all the same size. The range displayed in the tooltip is either a bug or an attempt to indicate which weapons perform better at longer ranges.

@@pandakraut8594 i hate to disagree with you but i have seen in game where some advanced rifles will our range others simply by lining up with the enemy i have seen my units fire and the AI not fire and that range makes a difference. all muskets have different ranges i have seen it in the game regardless of that the stats say. the ones with 300 range like the lorenz and the 250 of the 1842 do exist the difference is really there. then again i'm not using the mod that shows the cone of fire. so maybe there is a bug in the mod that puts all rifles at the same range...

@@brianciotti7233 So there are a few things at work here. Each weapon has an effectiveRange, which is what the range arcs are based on, and an effectiveRangeHint which is what the tooltips display. The UI mod simply switches which value is displayed by the tooltip, no weapon stats were modified. For all weapon types other than infantry these values match. The only change the mod makes to the firing arcs is the color and adding the extra lines to show where the canister and shot ranges are. My guess is that the ranges were changed at some point in development and the tooltips didn't get updated. This unfortunately seems to be something the developer's testing was not good at catching as I've found it occurring in a few different places. At one point in the game's development muskets did have shorter ranges than rifles but the AI handles this situation rather poorly and being out ranged early on is rather frustrating as a player so this change does seem reasonable. The range arcs display the normal engagement range but the logic used to acquire targets uses a combination of weapon range and other modifiers that result in a slightly higher range being used. The combination of the slightly increased ranges and how distances are calculated from the center of units allows situations where despite two units being equipped with identical range weapons one is able to fire without being hit in return. This is consistently exploitable with most weapons if you can find the right angle between the two units. One of the other mods available does change the range of muskets and when they have a shorter range it's extremely noticeable as the muskets have to move a full extra unit width to be able to fire back.

go max and send in your one stars first and of course skirmishers when you can expand your army get a couple of mounted infantry.

Overall another well fought battle, the AI does seem to have issues sometimes with an organized battle line. Also because of the AI's tendency to charge so much I've been trying out taking the melee skill when the brigades get their 2nd star. I'm not 100% sure its a massive difference yet. That being said you'll have to be careful about going all in on veterans, the cost will start to really hurt as your army gets bigger. Definitely don't forget your cavalry and sharpshooters, as you learned in the challenge those units can punch above their weight if used well.

Hello, Can you please do a series of every Civil war battle scenario in Napoleon total war since I don't see anyone else do to I think it would be great id you could it since you play some scenarios on there it will be much obliged. By the way great video I can not get enough of these ultimate general let's plays and how entertaining they are.

Not sure those units are three star, could just be false reporting due to your low recon. Those three star are getting pushed back really easily for experienced troops.

I did notice they weren't behaving like 3 star. I guess it never occurred to me that my recon level could cause that. Interesting observation.

@@TheHistoryGuy Recon points have no effect on the stars displayed in the unit huds. More points will just give you additional information about unit morale, stamina, etc in the hover text. The AI is rather passive when you don't hold the VP as the scenario is designed for on this map.

How come they don’t have better weapons? I’m fighting this battle on legendary and they have harpers ferry’s, plus I have a lot less men and they have a lot more than when they are fighting you in this video?
