Sharing your videos with my son in Texas. Helping to spread the word. Love your heart connection with the bison. I like to think of them as Sages of the Plains. These are the Wisdom Keepers of what we need to to live in harmony with the prairie. Take Joy in just Being as they do and feel the Peace of God all around you. Thank you for opening your heart to us as well

I really enjoy your channel. Buffalo are very special to me. I had a Bull , lead Bison , put his head in my lap and look me right in the eye. He was very kind and intelligent and strong. He let me know I was too. He was amazing. And yes I was awake I had my then 8 year old daughter with me! Lol she thought it was the best thing sense ice cream and chocolate cake! That's saying a lot if you knew us! Any way thank you very much we really enjoy your videos! Keep up the good work keep loving thoughs babies they are special! Kathy in Ohio

Never seen bison in a crush before, didn't realise they are so hard to work. Being in a confined space like that, really highlights the strength of these animals. As you said, you spend a lot of time with the herd, and you stopped short of calling them your pets. I can only imagine how much harder it would be to work them, if they are not accustomed to your presence, especially when Dunbar escaped

Growing up like this is like a childhood dream. I know it's hard though, I use to come home from school and go out to the field get on pony back and fall asleep while walked around. Me and my 2 sister's grew up in Santa Rosa, CA in the 60s when it was nothing but farms and dairies. It was so much fun.

So glad that I got your system up and workable.
@TensaWolf4 жыл бұрын
Handling system is pretty well thought out. You have the animals moving back toward their point of origin, there are individual sections for each animal, and everyone is taking their time. Just a few suggestions from stuff I've learned working bison. Add a loadout section to the working facility as it is much easier to load that way. Consider adding tie off points for a halter on the front of the chute, this can limit the amount the head can move making tagging less dangerous. Also in future additions make your panel height between 7-8 feet in height. For how large bison are they are pretty athletic creatures. Keep doing what you're doing and take your time with these beautiful animals.

I think you all did an great job. For the first time through, it went really well. I liked that everyone was basically quiet while working them.. The animals weren't startled by loud talking. They are nervous enough without adding more problems. Well done. Sorry, I did laugh when Dunbar found a weak area and busted out. You handled it well. Congratulations on your breeding program. You are doing a fantastic job with your Bison.

Just a couple of little tips that might help, is to close or narrow the squeeze part of the chute so the animal has to go slower coming to the head catching part, giving you more time to catch n lock the animals head. The next tip is to hang a rectangle piece of cloth on the side of the chute with a rope fastened to the chute, when the animal is caught, grab the other end of the cloths bring it over the animals eyes covering the eyes so it can’t see. If the animal can’t see it will have less stress n it will b easier to place an ear tag in its ear. On your new head gate, get one that opens out, so it’s easier for the animal to exit the chute. You will like it better.

Love to watch this guys. Worked up here on a beefalo ranch for 6 years. We use the same headgate without the front. Helped us to start running them through monthly. when u get them caught let them stand and settle give them some sweet feed to munch while in. Also we dehorn freezer ones. Safer. When we tag we use rope on farthest horn and hold head to opposite gate when tagging and tattoo. so u don't get horned. Hope some of this helps.

4:45 - WHOA. I was shocked how that bison was almost able to jump out. The power behind them is amazing. You weren't kidding - they can be DANGEROUS. I would NOT want to be the one doing a pregnancy check on those big girls. And Dunbar was ready to rock somebody into the next life. Hoowee! MAN those guys were angry. Dunbar got his aggression out on that hay bale. Amazing how such seemingly docile animals suddenly go berzerk on you. I could even hear Maya freaking out. She sounded incredibly fearful. Congrats on the pregnancies! This was your best video to date.
