This story brought a smile to my 60-year old face. Put over 90 hours on my KTM 300 last year, many with my 20-year old son. Would be tremendous if I could ride another 10 years.

I loved this s video, I’m 61 and have CIDP a form of MS, it affects my feet and hands and the doctor said no more dirt bike racing for me, so I stopped the vintage racing and bought an electric start Husqvarna TE 300 and doing a lot of trail riding with all my young friends and they said they can’t believe I keep up with them and I told them I can pass them but didn’t want to make anyone feel bad, loving life on brand new husky, even the guy at the dealership thought I was buying it for my son or grand son, so bother keep riding and sending these videos.

First of all, wonderful video. These guys are an inspiration. Great that you are riding with CIDP, Tarin! You’re a hero! I came down with CIDP at the age of 37. At the time I could barely walk or button my shirt. Fortunately it went into remission after 2 years. I still don’t have much sensation in the soles of my feet and there is also some weakness. My neurologist asked me what I planned to do once I was able to walk. I told him I wanted to ride motorcycles. He said to go for it! I started out by riding street bikes. I learned to ride a dirt bike at the age of 51 and I am hooked. Here at 54 I am having a blast. Riding in the dirt also improved my street riding. Thank you, Barry, for the great videos on your channel.

This video (50 years of Kicks) was instrumental in making me want to create cinematic motorcycle videos. I realized that not every video has to be an adrenaline pumping shred... but they could be about regular (okay... those guys are superhuman) people who enjoy riding for the sake of riding. Thanks for sharing it again!

Inspirational to see such love towards the sport!! I’m a 58yr old that just picked up a KTM 250 xcf trail bike. The response I get from people when they see and hear about me dirt biking is shock and concern that I’ve picked up the sport when I should be taking it easy at my age. I’ve always been physically active throughout my life, I play hockey, cycle and weight train. I’m thoroughly enjoying dirt bike riding and I get out at least once a week for a trail ride. And here’s to think, I was going to buy a fishing boat. BRAAP BRAAP

Similar age - And not enduro but a small capacity duel sport I am loving ripping down a dirt road to a beach to be a galah on. I got my bike the same day I heard about a DR650 falling on an associate where he didn't make it. Caused me to reflect a bit but I am liking the bike a LOT If we all knew our expiry date that would also be a problem.

I hope you heal without dramas. I've been there twice.... shattered lower leg about 15 years ago and the spine fracture about two years ago. I knew I had the potential to slip into depression so both times I focused on trying to use it as a positive experience to develop mental toughness - something I'm not very good at! Worked at not complaining, getting into good books and movies, exercising in any way I could. More contact with friends etc. About the three month mark both times I started to whinge and whine but that was a pretty good run for me lol. kzbin.info/www/bejne/il6no5WLl96DlcU

Thanks Barry and Traction Erag for featuring these 2 statesmen of moto. We have a similar group here at Walker Valley, Washington State that meet every Wednesday and ride the good stuff. Many riders are 50-70, and a few local legends are mid 70’s to 82 years old. We stop frequently so nobody gets too tired, but also because we value the stories and experience the senior guys have to offer. We don’t ruin a good dirt ride by talking politics. Moto therapy keeps the mind and body working well and lets us forget about life’s unpleasantness for a while. Another side benefit is that we get to try everyone’s bike out without having to buy it. I ride 10 different bikes a month, and you can always learn about bike setup from another experienced rider. Sorry, got to go now and load up for tomorrow!

CROSS TRAINING ENDURO SKILLS - No worries, friend! Their stories are inspirational and we can't get enough of stories like this where the character of people outshines their accomplishments. I want to be that "old guy" that can hang with the others, but doesn't gloat about what he's done, complain about what can't be controlled or be critical about the "younger folks". We need elders to look up to ... especially their awesome wheelie and hill-climbing skills! Thank you, again, for doing this! Paul and Larry deserve their voices to be heard and I really appreciate the kind of respect and love you have for them. I'm not a dirt/enduro rider (yet) but your kind of videos make me think: maybe my next bike should be a dual sport? Cheers!

Love the video turning 60 this year I have ridden for 40+ years except the last 6-7 due to a bad bump in my health, always enjoyed the exploring aspect of riding from the physical to the mechanical and geological limits the push you though to the next challenge. Kudos to all who ride and preserve video of the their adventures. My friend and I happen to be lucky enough to engage with a old cogger when we first started dirt riding, the gentleman was fluent on trials, motocrass, street, and atvs. The trails he had carved out over the years led us to the world of excitement that some people only read or dream about. With smiles permanently glued to out faces every time would met him we would confidently proclaim that yes we did that trail he was refering to time and time again, anticipating the well then maybe you can try this one next and let me know how you made out. Never forget him or his farm which was one of our most favorite starting points of so many adventure and mis-adventures. He was in his late 70s when I last saw him and still riding strong.

Well done, what a great experience it was to watch this mini-doc. Thanks for putting in the time, effort, and love of riding to have done this. It was very well done. I'm "getting up there", but just got back into riding since a teen with a new KTM 500, and I'm super excited for as many years as I can make up for losing inbetween moving ahead.

One of the best videos on your channel so far, I probably have watched all Of them at probably 3x now and I can’t get enough of this one, it’s so good to see legends living the dream, riding with such a good level, and having this much fun no matter what. The other one I really like is the reunion with Paul, larry, Jarvis, Colton and the young fella (sorry I forgot his name), 4 generations enjoying the sport and making life much better. Congrats for you content and keep uploading your channel, is one of the best in my opinion! Always great stuff, good laughs and something new to learn.

I'm 49 and was diagnosed 3 years ago with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy or HCM, that has now progressed to HOCM or obstructive. Basically my heart is pumping blood out to my body through something the size of a Bic pen instead of a garden hose. So stairs and inclines really tire me out as well as lifting. One of the few things I can still do amazingly is ride my dirt bike like a trooper. I'm getting a major port and polish this fall and I'm hoping to ride into my seventies!
@crosstrainingenduro
@crosstrainingenduro 6 жыл бұрын
no doubt you are riding smart after all these years... good technique means not wasting energy so i figure the HCM has less effect? bring on the seventh decade!

I noticed that I was slowly transitioning to a sit down rider more and more about 4-5 years ago. Then when I figured out what was wrong with me I had an ah ha moment. When they told me I probably wasn't going to have a heart attack ( had die test done and I was clean as a whistle) it was game on. Between a lot of riding over the last 20 years and some really good tips from a Dirt Wise school, some of us local guys have figured out you don't have to wast a lot of energy to ride. Now I'm more and more back on the pegs still keeping Stu Colquhoun honest.

Great seeing all these positive comments! This was my brother Anthony's first stab at directing on a professional level. This was a great achievement, but I think I liked Checkpoints even more. All the best to the Traction E-Rag team, and to Paul and Larry, keep on kickin'! "G"

I've been riding mostly sportbikes such as ZX-7 Ninja , R-1's , Gsxr's since 1989. in 2001 started dirtbike and trail riding with both a KDX 200 then moved up to DRZ400E . decided I wanted something in the middle so Got a WR450F and converted it into a Supermoto '. I'll be 57 years old soon and I've always worked out from years as a personal trainer. and like Paul , most of my friends are much younger than I between 21 to 34 years old . I am truly happy to see this video of guys that are so passionate about riding and challenging themselves into their later years. I believe the body will go where the mind takes it. as Paul put it ; I can ride with one arm, one leg , or half a " brain " LOL ( that's the right attitude in LIFE ' ) kudos with all that said I'm looking at getting into more dirtbike riding to supplement my motard track riding . life is brighter on 2-wheels !

Holy crap. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed this! Feels so wholesome, makes me feel hope, empathy, etc. Feels like I'm in my living room growing up with my brothers watching motorcycle movies on VHS, a happy family. Are you working on more? What kind of support would you need to make a series? What about one with people that struggle with health issues? Just some thoughts. Thank you so much.

traction erag did an awesome job on this doco! no plans to do feature length vids like this for a while, but as you know many of the supporter vids are between 12 to 20 mins long. we've done two vids about depression, one for riders with upper body issues (e.g. carpel tunnel), three vids about physical fitness... planning one about PTSD at the moment. here's how to find various topics: kzbin.info/www/bejne/enO3hKRuhMmKf8U
