Nice video as always. Very blessed to have found this channel. My NKJV Preaching Bible is flawed {replacement too} the back pages get caught up in back cover so about 30 pages have slight damage. Nelson didn't seem to care when I let them know. I like that idea of converting the ESV Classic Ref. Bible. For those interested, Ligonier is selling the 2001 ESV Classic Ref. in hardback.

Great review. If I were to create a preaching Bible, I would have large print, wide margin, verse by verse, no references, no concordance, maps or notes of any kind. Good thick paper, blank pages in the back. Goat skin leather and 3 or 4 ribbons.

So helpful. It's hard to find these nicer Bibles in Christian bookstores (let alone find a bookstore) so it's almost impossible to make an informed, hands-on decision before buying. Videos like this are really help.

I would love to have an ESV with the Melson layout! I use an ESV PSQ for everything currently. Looks like I will get an ESV verse by verse and do a rebind to get what I want.

Excellent review, as alway, Matt. I'm bummed that Crossway went with the paragraph format and love what Thomas Nelson has done with their preaching Bible. I think the Classic Reference is the perfect all around Bible and a great choice as a preaching Bible. I have for the last year, though, been using the Quentel as my main preaching Bible. God bless!

Hi Pastor Matt, Wondering what you are using for your everyday Bible for devotions etc since you filled up your "Eagle". When reviewing your Eagle for this year, you compared it to a brand new one without markings. Wondering if you got yourself a new Cambridge wide margin for everyday use?

You know that ESV Preaching bible is an enlarged ESV Heritage. If you have the Heritage look at the pages in the same book. It’s the same type setting just larger type face. Pretty cool idea actually. Now the new VBV ESV Preachers bible, that’s it’s own thing from what I know. But that first edition Preaching bible needs a new name. Like Heritage Large Print or something like that.

I have this Bible, and honestly the only downfall (Which is not bad either) is that its not Verse-by-verse. OTHER than that, this Bible is excellent from the Quality of the leather (Goatskin), the quality of the paper, the size of the font and it's just a pleasure to read. I think for readers/preachers to actually enjoy the format of this Bible must be a lover of single column text. Cause it gives us a very clean and simple outline of the text and for the price point of it being well under $200 which is basically a heirloom (quality). I was extremely happy with this purchase overall!

I know you primarily used the Pitt and Eagle for a while, but have you landed on another "the one" and if so, how often do you utilize all of the others?

hi, i have the same Bible. the print, paper quality and feel is excellent! it is also line matched so no ghosting! This is considered a heirloom quality Bible but with better quality print and paper!

I have an incredibly dumb question but it’s something that I’ve been wondering about for a while. When a publisher sends a bible to review, do you keep it or do you send it back once its been reviewed?

I either keep it or give it away. I have too many. I prefer to give Bibles to people in my church or as gifts.

Single column paragraph is the opposite of what I look for in a preaching/teaching Bible. Double column verse-by-verse is my preference, with moderate (not "wide") margins and NO cross references (I DO want translation footnotes, however).

Not sure why anyone would put much stock in a bible that showed Jesus lying. Here Jesus says he's not going to the feast and tells them why....then goes to the feast. You can read it for your self. John 7:8-10 ESV 8 You go up to the feast. I am not going up to this feast, for my time has not yet fully come.” 9 After saying this, he remained in Galilee. 10 But after his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not publicly but in private.

The KJV also said the same [I have a feeling that you're a KJV-only person]: Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come. When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee. But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret. (John 7:8-10)

​@@allensagalla1579the difference is the yet. in modern translations, they do say that jesus lied and went in secret, but surprisingly the kjv does have it correct, with yet.
