Rangers always tell us it's awful and unadvisable.... they dont want to come get you so they discourage it in my experience-

She did say that a few people had to be rescued earlier in the year, so I would bet you are 100% right. It is probably smart on their part, keep people that are not prepared from getting into trouble.
