Very nice video. Really amazing chicks (as bird chicks always are). Extremely good parents (as bird parents really are). Birds have much bigger 'depths' than most people think. We have neighboring crows too (Corvus cornix). They also nest at the top of a tall spruce, for several years now. Sadly too far away for our cams. They visit our garden every morning, eating and have their discussions with 'our' magpies and oystercatchers. One of the crows has learned how to enter our food tray, even though we have limited the tray for big birds. That's ok to us, even though the mags don't like it.

Thank you. I searched for a long time on the internet for such recordings beforehand, but didn't find much. So it was an unlikely stroke of luck for me that they built their nest there. There are some nice crows nest videos from India and other parts of Asia. In Germany there is the designation Rabeneltern (raven parents) for bad parents neglecting their children. It is strange that German language gives such a bad connotation to corvids. It's simply wrong. And unfortunately many internet videos try to exaggerate the negative sides of corvid behaviour. Just to get the clicks. People are not aware, that for example great tits sometimes kill other birds, too. Like with crows, these are rare events. Many bird species carry this dinosaur heritage. Nice to hear about your crow neighbours, I've seen them in some of your videos. Corvus cornix dominates in the eastern part (German name translates to 'fog crow'). I only see two or three hybrid crows each year, the majority are black carrion crows. Check out the channel 'Krari the crow' from Berlin, if you like. It is very nicely done.

@@kestrelsandcrows6871 Yes, there are lot of strange attitudes against some birds. In reality bird parents reach a parenting level that is mindblowing. When we ask some people why they don't like certain birds, many times the answers are not based on facts or reality. Of course they make sounds and they eat too...but that should not be a reason for a not-so-intelligent hatred. So we think it's nice with channels like yours and ours that offer a little bit of insight about these animals. Insight (even not so much of it) might change the attitudes to many people. We, ourselves, are good examples of that. We changed from ignorant to positive because we got to know the birds a little closer (we have always been an animal loving family though, but we changed regarding both the gulls and the mags, actually not being very fond of them in the beginning...) And yes, we discovered the crow channel by the comment on your video here. A very nice channel. We have posted a comment on their channel, letting them know about us.

@@kestrelsandcrows6871 And nearly all birds will predate the young of other birds if they get the chance, I've seen sparrows, tits, swifts, and woodpeckers all doing it to name a few.

Baby crows spend a couple weeks on the ground just hopping around until they get strong enough to fly.

You should watch part 4, then you will see that baby crows can fly shortly after leaving the nest. Just like all other songbirds.

Thank you for your kind comment. I was very lucky to have them so close for study. This year the pair tried again in this nest, but unfortunately were unsuccessful. I don't know what happened. They still visit me every day to get their treats.
