Rob Dietz is probably the best & best known acápella arranger in the business. He does a lot of the arrangements for Pentatonix and Home Free, and often does VoicePlays shorts. VoicePlay does most of their own arrangements for their full length performances, but they call on Rob when they're stuck, either for time or creatively. If you get obsessive about the arrangements, you'll often find new things added to VP's repertoire when they call in Rob - we'll see it in the song he arranged, then see both Geoff and Layne exploring that same tactic in following months. I deeply admire both Geoff and Layne for this ability to continue to grow and add new things to their repertoire. That, to me, is the mark of an artist - to continue to stretch and learn and assimilate things that then become creatively altered through their own brains/skill sets. So many arrangers rely on a set of rules that become wooden with long use, they're stuck in a groove of what worked in the past, without stepping out past that and preparing the future. So we get bored...

I Can't Make You Love Me is one of my most favorite songs where Cesar starts off the song & gets the opportunity to rip your heart out with his emotive performance... another one is their cover of Creep. And yes, Omar is EJ's brother, both are incredibly talented vocalists & have been features in multiple videos. (Omar also happens to be Cesar's best friend and used to be roommates!)

And I believe EJ and Cesar actually work together without VP on HawkMoon Creative. At least I’ve seen photos on Cesar’s instagram that imply that. And FYI - EJ is part of Voctave which is a 12(?) person acapella group (not exactly positive on how many members are in it)

I think I read somewhere that it was Cesar´s wish, to perform "I can´t make you love me" and it is wonderful. I adore his passion he puts in every song. 🌹 I thought the whole time, how difficult it must be, to provide the constant bass line. They all have so great voices. Listening to Cesar sing this makes me want to reach through and hand him some tisdues. His "falsetto" is brilliant here. E.J. Car-dough-nah is Omar Cardona's brother and they are both awesome. First time I heard Layne sing was in My Mother Told Me, but this offers his sweet side.

Congrats on no interruptions!! I love the way Cesar just breaks your heart in "I Can't Make You Love Me". He has such a tender, emotive voice. I love his sass in other VP songs as well (some of which other people have already recommended). For a great E.J. feature, I suggest the "Disney Heroes and Villains Medley" or "O Come All Ye Faithful" with Voctave (yeah, I know it isn't Christmas). For an Omar VoicePlay feature, I highly recommend "Superstition", if you haven't seen it. I would recommend Pentatonix for acapella reactions, but you would have to obscure the videos with some kind of filter to avoid copyright blocks, and I doubt you have time for that. Except for some of the earliest songs, most Home Free songs are safe to react to. One of my favorites, though an emotional one, is "I Can't Outrun You".

Cesar=Heartbreak. His tone just reaches in and slays me everytime they get to focus on him. Something I have noticed, when Geoff arranges songs his Bass is solid but understated, and Layne's pull back on the intensity on the beatbox. They are all so humble in pushing eachother to shine.

This is one of my top five videos that VoicePlay has done. Cesar lobbied that he wanted them to do this one. It is so beautiful and so heartrending. I feel like it is VoicePlay's quiet masterpiece. Geoff did say when he was doing the pre-mix audio, he had tears running down. The house was a character in this song with everyone alone and by themselves. Aurora was talking about Rob Dietz and VoicePlay has used him. Check out Cesar audition for VP, We're Good (Dua Lipa) and Rob Dietz also worked on the song for that. EJ Cardona is Omar's brother. He is in Voctave who came to FSU last winter for a one night stand. It was great. This old abandoned school was Eli's high school. If you want something new - try The Bass Gang, only been doing acapella for about 3 yrs. One of their recent works is a 4 video set of songs by Disney - Arabian Nights (lead is Marwan in Egypt), Be Prepared (lead is Tomi P in the Czech Republic), Gaston (lead is Peter Barber in the US also in opera), and Friend Like Me (lead is Bobby Bass in the US). They were planning to all be in the same location for the first time but while Tomi, Peter and Bobby all arrived in the Czech Republic but Marwan could not get his visa approved so he had to find a scene for his part, a camera crew, a dancer, communications to send his part to the other guys. He was a late teenager who assembled all of that. I think he's 20 now.

Voiceplay really knows how to pull your heartstrings. Cesar's voice is so .... ya This is one of only two songs where the guys are not together. The other is Attention featuring Rachael Potter. EJ and Omar are in fact brothers and also come from Florida and are good friends with Cesar, Omar is Cesar's best friend and used to be roommates. EJ 's wife also sings with Geoff on his version of Mele Kalikimaka. The whole family is talented. EJ is actually in an Accapella groups called Voctave if you want to check them out. The high note was actually Cesar with Eli taking the harmony. Cesar asked if he could try so they let him. Omar has also been a big encouragement for Cesar. Dream On is one of my favorites. Glad this was a two-fer. Home Free was in a competition The Sing Off with Voice Play and others. Tim Foust taught Geoff a few techniques to reach the basement and they have helped each other out off and on. There is a friendly rivalry. Voice Play is known as "The Theater Kids of Acappella" and Home Free won The Sing Off by digging into their "country" roots. Their fan base is called Home Fries and are even more devoted than Voice Play's in some ways. I think Home Free's best song ever is MAN of Constant Sorrow. Their baritone, Chance, does a beat box imitation of a "jaw harp" which sounds like a diggerridoo to me. You don't see it's him until the very end. I love both groups, but VP edges HF just a tad for me, except on Man if Constant Sorrow. Home Free's version is the one for me now. Hands down.

EJ sings with Voctave, a larger acapella group. He is Omar's older brother. They recorded a closing scene with all of them together on the back porch. But it didn't work, all of them alone was better. In Dream On, Eli, Omar and Cesar could have done that high note. The featured artist, Omar would have been scheduled to do it. But it's actually Cesar.

I would say Cardona like donor, not donna. EJ's brother Omar features a lot with VP. He's a good friend of Cesar. This was done at Cesar's request and Geoff said that while he editing it together it was making him cry. It always makes me cry too. Most of the arrangements are done by Geoff or Layne, sometimes Rob gives some addiional ideas and Eli is taking more on in arranging, though he did do Eleanor Rigby alone I think. They always leave you wanting more.
