BART needs painted queue lines for train door entrances (like they do in taipei) as well as rules about keeping phone conversations to a minimum.

I used to ride BART to and from work every weekday. I would get home feeling stressed, worn out, and needing a shower because the air on BART (and in the stations) feels stale and stuffy. Then I discovered casual carpooling and AC Transit's trans-bay bus service. Now I can get to work earlier, sometimes giving $1 to a driver (if they accept it). And ride home in a comfortable, coach-style bus -- usually with an empty seat beside me -- to a stop one block from my house. Cheaper, more comfortable, more convenient. I get home with energy to spare.

There a few good tips for BART newbies, but I doubt they will ever see them - perhaps BART could install flat screens on the stations and loop this video over and over? And the #1 tip not included that drives me crazy: if you are standing by, or in front of the door when the train stops STEP OFF THE TRAIN AND TO THE SIDE TO LET PASSENGERS OFF. Even if the train is lightly crowded it doesn't matter how much you try to stand to the side you will still be completely in the way of exiting passengers and slow everyone down - especially those with bikes, wheelchairs or kids in tow. Of course to go along with this when you are waiting on the platform - stand well back and let people off, and then let those who stepped off back on before you board. Don't barge into the oncoming flow like a salmon trying to swim home to spawn. The few seconds that takes is paid off many times over by the increase in speed for people exiting.

BART should try having a car filling tracker, green meaning the car has many seats, yellow meaning not many seats, orange meaning plenty of standing room, and red meaning an overcrowded car. If I were a driver, I would put down a lock in my train to have the doors between cars locked open when I need to.

Standing in line is stupid. Not everyone is getting on the same train. People just end up getting in each others way.
@TroyBrophy10 жыл бұрын
Standing in line is great. It's when people don't know what to do when the train that's arrived isn't the train they are taking. Those people need to move up with the line, and then step aside. What a lot of people do is just stand there, blocking the line and confusing everyone behind them.

Lol like people actually have manners and enough common sense to follow these simple rules

Nice video. You didnt mention anything about the escalators. Walk left, stand right. What about cell phone/ipod/ear phone usage. I still don't want to hear your music through your ear phones. Do a video once a month on all aspects of using Bart.

Escalators are made to move large numbers of standing people from one level to another - not to walk on. Go the the Manufacturers web sites and they will tell you that

Right but people still walk up and down them too.

gardenman3 Not walking on an escalator? Nuts to that. I'll walk on an escalator as much as I want to get to the floor I'm going to faster. I don't want to just stand there wasting time unless I need to tie my shoe or something.

It seriously took how long to publish something like this? How about also putting a short text version up on the daktronics displays?? Something like "HELP YOUR FELLOW TRAVELERS ON CROWDED TRAINS - MOVE TO THE CENTER OF THE CAR AND DO NOT BLOCK THE DOORS"

Please do not add more useless information to the signs. The ONLY thing I care about when I get to a BART platform is what trains are coming, how many cars, and how soon. Frequently I've had to make quick decisions about what train to jump on, only to see some stupid information about taking BART to a baseball game, or something similarly unimportant. Take a train in any other major city...They do not put information on platform signs that is not relevant to the arrival of trains.

Cheap ass doors
@learnthroughmusicandlyrics63618 жыл бұрын
The current BART cars were manufactured in the early '70s, before public transit vehicle doors had sensors that allowed the doors to automatically reopen upon detecting a boarding passenger, or when a passenger themselves stopped the doors from closing.
@blount_man8 жыл бұрын
Do these doors still have the sensors? I haven't seen anybody stop these doors from closing lately.
@learnthroughmusicandlyrics63618 жыл бұрын
That's because most passengers now know that stopping the doors from closing will cause entire BART trains to be put out of service on the spot, inconveniencing everybody. I've heard BART train operators go off on passengers publicly over the interior PA system onboard trains for forcing doors open for the above reason. To answer your question, I don't believe BART train doors have sensors.
