Crowded stairwell at Lamar High School

So crazy how at a rich school like Lamar a crowded staircase ends up on the news and they meet with the architect, meanwhile countless other schools in H.I.S.D have safety and security issues and none of them ever get reported by the news.

I literally work on school projects for a living across the country. Hisd Lamar high IS a rich school

Let's be real here. Nearly every inner city high school in Texas looks like this. It's because we are overpopulated. When I was in high school we were shoulder to shoulder in every hallway and each class was on average 40 kids. That meant that ten or so of us would be sitting on the floor for our classes. I graduated in 2019, and since then, my high school has done no remodels to remedy this. The population has only grown more, and it's getting worse. We are title I and a 5A school. In the next 5 years, they predict it'll be a 6A school. The district receives plenty of funding to remodel the actual school, but instead, they used it on building an additional stadium that wasn't needed and placing fancy little stickers on the doors and windows. I visited my friend's little sister there last year after the stadium was built, and I noted that the doors did not lock, there were water lines on the walls of the main hall, mold spots in the ceiling tiles (with some missing entirely), and that nothing had been maintained or fixed since I graduated. These Texas schools need to be held accountable across the board, not just the ones where wealthy students attend.

Actually, I went to this school from 2010-2014. I used to go from the cafeteria to third floor..we only had 6 minutes and no way with all the traffic you could make it. I walked generally fast and the teacher made the entire class get a tardy slip. Like wtf? Lmao

My school is a new building as well and there was first one main stairwell built for everybody and then also multiple fire exit stairs but then they realised it would be way to dangerous so only seniors use the main stairs and everybody’s else has to use fire exits

Saw this coming from a mile away before summer vacation In 2019 I’d rather deal with rats and cockroaches instead of this smh
