It was quite disheartening to see the extent to which media outlets and local government authorities overstated the potential traffic congestion and various negative aspects associated with the eclipse event. This overemphasis on the downsides led to widespread apprehension, causing many individuals to decide against traveling to the area. As a result, the local businesses, which had anticipated a surge in customers and economic activity due to the eclipse, faced considerable financial strain. The situation was a stark reminder of the impact that exaggerated negative publicity can have on community commerce and the missed opportunities for both residents and visitors to experience such a unique celestial event

They were only warning of what happened in August 2017. There were lines of vehicles miles long. People said it took hours to get 50 miles. Businesses thrived the 2 days before and after that eclipse! Motels & RV parks were booked full. People camped in tents. I was only 45 to 50 miles from that eclipses path of totality, but the crowds were so congested I had to make the decision & not go! 😮😂❤ I'm talking about a state that has 40 to 50 miles between cities. That's how bad the crowds were! The media was not wrong in issuing warnings about what could have happened. 😮

Between the over exaggerating negatives, shutting down schools, buildings, issuing full blown state of emergencies, warnings of mass blindness. Aliens, Fake Bible thumpers talking bout a red heifer and revelation. And people claiming the world was ending. Everyone RUINED it! It was supposed to be a nice enjoyable, rare experience. Of the moon covering the sun for a few minutes. That's it. Instead it became another excuse for another fear-mongering cataclysmic, apocalyptic, potentially life threatening event. That we have been obsessively stuck on since the freaking pandemic. People are having disaster fatigue. Keep trying to find every excuse to cause Mass Hysteria Or fear. We can't enjoy anything! 😂

Too bad, the weather spoiled the party in Texas. I was in Houlton, Maine yesterday and it was amazing. Here, the whole day was sunny, and not even a single cloud. Normally, it's always sunny in TX and mostly cloudy in Maine but yesterday it was the other way. I tried to book tickets to TX as it was more of a sure shot but the tickets for eclipse time were prohibitively expensive. Met a couple of astronomical enthusiasts from Texas who scrambled to Maine at the last minute after realizing the weather pattern. Here traffic was horrible with so many cars from different states. I hoped for a strong sun in TX as many people made plans for the event there.

Congratulations to you guys for having all the luck yesterday! It was amazing experience here in Austin, too, even with the cloud cover. The high clouds had gaps and the low ones were moving really fast. The rain that had been predicted right over totality ended up holding off a couple of extra hours which was nice. It's a shame people were scared off by the weather forecasts. They don't know how unpredictable our weather is here, trying to predict anything more than 6-12 hours out, especially rain, is a lost cause. A friend of my daughter's drove to northern NY from Pennsylvania and the crowds where she was had pretty much the same sky we did. I would like to see an eclipse with clear skies though. 2017's was during wildfire season in Oregon and this one was during Texas's very short monsoon season 🙂. It's like trying to attend a rocket launch, there's always the potential for disappointment.
