Mt Lofty is the highest peak overlooking Adelaide, the capital of South Australia and its Cafe, Obelisk and Lookout are popular with locals and tourists
It never snows in the Adelaide metropolitan area and the nearest snowfields to Adelaide are over 700 km away, in eastern Victoria.
Light snowfalls only occur on Mt Lofty every 2 to 3 years and are such an unusual event that large crowds gather, as well as local TV news crews.
