@@michaelmeyer2725 the fundamentals of what Matt Harloff teaches at Crown is the same base of what was taught at Star of Indiana by Donnie Van Doren it's just been refined to the Nth degree. As a drumline member who's never attempted to play any sort of instrument that requires air (apart from maybe a whistle in concert band), can someone explain to me what some of the things he's doing means? What does it mean when he says center, no waves, and straight up? Also what does it mean when he does the slow point or the slow extension of his arm, and what does it mean when he points to his ear? I've never seen any sort of instructor do something like this, and also I don't know wind instrument terminology.
@santiago09aguilar3 жыл бұрын
Hey I can answer those for you! He says center, no waves, and straight up when he refers to tuning. We individually tune our instruments before we play this tuning sequence so the “straight up” is the “needle” being perfectly straight up and down meaning we are in tune. Pointing at eats means to listen to the person to the left and right to us. The purpose of this is to blend (not play too loud or too soft compared to our neighbors) and to listen for tuning (if out of tune, we should fix our tuning slides). The slow extension is kind of a pushing motion and he means to push our air through the horn. I hope this helped!
