I thoroughly enjoyed doing the research for this videos I did on the princess. Yet another amazing woman in history whose life has not been fully explored and her achievements not fully acknowledged. My goal is to keep uncovering the many fabulous women and get their stories told. Thank you for your comments & I hope you subscribed and hit the notification bell for more videos to come!

I also watched the series. Matter of fact I did watch it twice for a greater perspective. Now, as I enjoy this film, I am convinced there is merit to what is being presented. Another PBS special on VICTORIA which I loved so much I have actually watched it in it's entirety 4 times. Then the news came that much of England's money was generated through selling herion to the Chinese. Oh well, some days are better than others I fear. I did a lot of programs like that to while the year, months; and days during the first year of covid. Being old (77-78) at the time, I only went outside my home once every 4 days to pick up my mail. I had everything I needed delivered to my door, at a reasonable cost considering the amount of folks doing these dangerous deliveries. I have been and will always be grateful for the effort. I received my second shot about 3 weeks ago. lol "Long live the king" ! Anyhow, thanks for your post Melinda. Sincerely, I remain, Sentebay.

Marta was a patriot of Norway! She persisted even when her country's government in exile was blocking her. Roosevelt may have been sweet on her, but that was not encouraged. And if that got more help for Norway, she would have been soft for not using that for her people.

I do agree Princess Martha loved her country and by all counts and from the pictures was indeed knew how to publicly gain support for her country during her five years in America. It saddens me to read how some male authors down play the importance of a womens rule in history and important events not just during times of war and depression. We women are still viewed by some as not having any significant in the world !!!! I have been enjoying Atlantic Crossing however I am somewhat annoyed by the distraction of a romantic relationship between FDR and Crown Princess Martha I feel it diminishes the Princess and her ability to stand on her own two feet and have a friendship of equals with FDR. The only way for her to survive is to become FFR mistress? I find that somewhat insulting to her as a women. But I suppose it makes for more gossip and interest but I wonder what the current King of Norway and his family thinks of these rumours?

Yes, it saddens me as well that women in history are so often overlooked, minimized or sexuallised. Rather than show accomplishments and achievements as worthy of a good story, in and of itself, there always is a suggested romance. Did you see my video on the fossil hunter, Mary Anning in Ammonite? kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6Xconp6r7B0d5I Same thing. I appreciate your comments. So good to hear that others are of the same mind. Hope you subbed for more women in history videos!

I have no doubt he tried to seduce her, that was his style with many women, but she was too in love with her husband and too smart to lower herself in such a low manner. I too, am tired of male tendency to view history of Women's contributions thru the lens as I have to sleep with a man to get anything done. This is such a crock of horse shit I am tired of reading about. Nutmeg markle may have thought that is a great way and slept her way up, but A Woman of Substance , Integrity and Intelligence need not. Crown Princess Martha was such a Woman and stands as a reminder to all of us what can be accomplished .

Wow, you really do your research! I have not seen such a detailed version of princess martha in relation to america! After watching your video, I say she was norway's war-time weapon 06:50 for sure! People tend to put down women's accomplishments so is is nice to see some content that does the opposite. In fact, I am glad I found your channel. Not much out there that focuses just on women's role and acievements! I subbed!

Thank you so much I believe Princess Martha had to protect both herself and her children she was alone without her husband she was in essence a single parent. I was very surprised Prince Olav didn't try to bring his family to England but it was too dangerous

Carolyn - You are writing with a 2021 perspctive. In the summer of 1940, noone knew if the Brits could, hold the line against the nazi onslaught. Bringing Harald to the US was a strategic move, to ensure the survival of Norway as a free and independent nation.

Too dangerous, as earlier stated. King Olav stayed in the USA with his family about 2-3 months a year during the war. They never knew when he came during the year, it was all secret, but Martha got noticed the day ahead.

Why isn't the cause of her early death (54) given here or elsewhere? She was so beautiful. It was stated that she said she would gladly go through another surgery than to have to give the Red Cross speech or do any public speaking. I've read all the biographical material I can find, and should be known.

At 8:43 in the video you incorrectly state that this picture of Prince Harold and Fala was taken on the north lawn of the White House. It was in fact, taken at the home of the President’s first cousin, Laura Franklin Delano, Evergreen Lands, Rhinebeck. I have written documentation of proof of this from King Harold himself.

The ATLANTIC CROSSING PBS series' producers depiction of the "warship" presented to Norway on September 16th 1942 appears on the PBS screen to be a Gleaves or Benson Class Destroyer plus the word "destroyer" is used contextually in the play as being synonymous with "warship." What actually became the HNoMS King Haakon VIII [per NavSource records] was actually the 173 foot US Navy Patrol Craft PC-467; a "warship" of much smaller size and proportion than any of the destroyer craft given to other navies during WWII. This blatant and unnecessary exaggeration of reality by the series' producers calls into question the many other verbal and visual assertions promoted as being fact in the play.

We enjoyed watching Atlantic Crossing and learning about Crown Princess Martha. One question I had is did she have scarring around her mouth or was that scarring that of the actress who played her? I’m curious because I have some facial scars and found it interesting the Crown Princess did, too. I know Astrid was killed in a horrible accident but I was uncertain if Martha was with her. If Martha was with her that could explain the scarring. If the actress who played her had that scarring I would have thought the makeup artist would camouflage it. Thanks for any info about the scarring.

On Google, it says that the actress had the scar due to a cycling accident in her 20's. I don't understand why they didn't hide it with makeup or Botox before the filming. It was possible to do. It was rather distracting. The wigs weren't that convincing either.

I’m sure the Norwegians were grateful for their Princess Martha and what she accomplished during the war. It’s true, some are born into a privileged status, it’s what they do with that status that truly matters. She did an enormous good, as well as left a great legacy. May we all, whatever station of life we’re in, always be an inspiration to others.

I find an odiousness to your post. All royal families tend to follow this course of action. If you don't believe that idea, take a look at the children of the King and consort . Although they did not leave the country, when the blitz came close to destroying the family living quarters, Princess Elizbeth and her sister were taken off to the country side to be safe, along with hundreds of children from London proper. The fact remains YES THEY ARE SPECIAL. Your statement is not one of optimism in my view.

A silly micro view of the situation. Many people of a country occupied by a hostile force will survive the event. The same cannot be said for a select group of the Royal Household who have a long line of history to preserve. Tue to fact they survived and continued their lineage and reign after the war. The same however cannot be said for say Tzar Nicholas II of Russia who's Royal line ended when he and his whole family were murdered by the Bolsheviks. It's never about the individual but the institution they represent serving their country as a whole.

The average Norwegains were not in general to any large degree directly bothered by the Germans, but naturally it was difficult times with lack of all kind of goods. Life in the country side / small towns were quieter and easier with few germans permanently around and better access to farms products, food. Norway was first of all occupied because of it's important location in the north. Key persons as royals and ministers would had been quickly arrested, so they escape
