Coz I don't know the grammer. I found out it has 26 tenses in english. I scheduled I would learn one tense every day. Then I can speak correctly. You teach very very clearly. Hi,I'm from Myanmar.Can you explain me difference between Past simple and Past perfect continuous(ex.I studied eng for 3 yrs or I had been studying eng for 3 yrs),plz.Thanks in advanced,Andrew🤩🤩
@joaoandre7488 Жыл бұрын
Hi Ohn Mar, the difference between Past Simple and Past perfect continuous is: if you say I studied Engineering for 3 years that’s mean this action is finished, you no longer study, you stopped. But if you say I had been studying that’s mean you continue studying and you have evidence that you are studying you didn’t finish to study. To sum up: past simple is for finished action in the past whereas, Past Perfect continuous is for actions happen in the Past but didn’t finish, continuous in the past, had been happening. Have a nice day. Hi from London .

Thank you so much for this comprehensive video on the Past Simple. I have a question about the verb "transfer". The Oxford dictionary mentions the verb "transfer" to be made of two syllables and 'stressed on the second', in both British and American English, and as such, it writes the past form as "transferred", with two r's. But in this video, you mention it's not stressed on the second syllable. Is "transfered" (with a single 'r') correct in British English? One more thing. How do I break a word into syllables? I find it really hard to determine how many syllables a word is made up of. Do you happen to have done a video on "syllables"? If not, I would very much appreciate if you do one.
@CrownAcademyEnglish9 жыл бұрын
+Abdul Quadir Hello and thanks for the comment and question and sorry for the delay in replying to you. I have been on holiday. It was a mistake when I made the video. If you watch the video with the screen annotations, you will see the correction. ("transferred" is the correct form and the second syllable is stressed.) If you understand IPA (phonetic transcripts), then it is easier to identify the syllables in a word. I explain IPA here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWmuoaOEjcuraM0 Best wishes, Andrew

Hello. I was wondering what the difference was between these two sentences. 1. What were you doing at 8 o'clock yesterday? 2. What did you do at 8 o'clock? As I know, Past Continuous refers to an action which was in progress at the specific time. What about simple past? Please let me know if you have enough time. What about doing a grammar lesson with comparing past simple and past continuous?

Hi Mr. Andrew and thanks for the great video.I have two questions: If I want to write a comment or a complement about your videos, should I use the past or the present tense? How could I know this verb is of one syllable or more and stressed in the first or final syllable? Please explain it to me or tell me if there is any book can help. Regards
@CrownAcademyEnglish10 жыл бұрын
amel aliraq Hello again. 1) There are lots of ways you can give a compliment about a video. It depends on what we want to say and the context. Examples:"I really like this video." (present simple) or "These videos are really helping me." (present continuous) or even "This video helped me prepare for my IELTS exam." (past simple) 2)If you learn the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), then you will be able to read and understand the phonetic transcripts (including syllables) in dictionaries. I have a video about this: International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) | English Pronunciation Best wishes Andrew
