Developing an in-house chronograph is a gargantuan task- it has the power to bankrupt a company. But, Breitling took on the challenge to make one for themselves in 2004 and came out with the B01 movement. Join Mark as he explains why this is so significant and why the Breitling Premier is a Hidden Gem.

Quick little history about the B01. It was developed by the same individual who also developed the modern Daytona's in house movement. Rolex sued Breitling for patent infringement over the B01. Rolex ended up losing the lawsuit, but just goes to show how superior the B01 is.

if I had the money, I'd definitely go for this one, it's a stunning dial I'd love to have but I don't have 8.5k to throw on a watch, so I went with the Hamilton intramatic. got a bit of vintage flair with that

I have a breitling Navitimer B01 43. I rarely wear it because of this movement. It’s so difficult to turn the crown that When I consider wearing it, i always decide against it because it takes too long to set and hurts my fingers. I love the watch but hate how difficult it is to set.

I LOVE the B01 but my biggest problem with it is that tudor has borrowed the calibre. And the price? 1/2 of the CHEAPEST Breitling Premier B01 But I love the design of the B01-series so hopefully I can buy it one day!

An absurd idea of selling your own movement to a competitor that sells at a far lower price point. I suffer the exact same problem as you, love the look and history of the Navitimer, can't justify buying one

I think Breitling need to upgrade their B01 movement since it has been around for a decade now. Probably put something to improve resistance to magnet? Such as the hair spring? Something like what the Rolex and Omega is doing. Don't have to do big upgrade but at least incremental.
@tomscott4438
@tomscott4438 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. For the same money the Omega Speedmaster Racing gives you a third hand within the minute subdial, twin barrels, a silicon hairspring, full bridge, and superior finishing. Don't get me wrong I love the look of the Breitling, but the Omega is much more watch for the money.

The Tudor I believe is 200 meters water resistant because of the screw down pushers. The Breitling is 100 and far easier to use. I was leaning towards the gold Tudor Black Bay Chrono, because I can get it thousands cheaper than the steel version. Now I want the Breitling.

I thought this was going to be a video about this particular Breitling Chrono. Instead we are left to watch a 15 minute presentation on the history of Breitling and it’s Chrono movements. I wish you would’ve put that in the title so I wouldn’t have wasted my time.
@peterpenhk

Wondering how much Breitling is asking Tudor to pay for the B01, can't get my head around letting a competitor using your own movement (with upgraded silicon spring coil) and selling at a far lower price point. When people talk about Breitling, the first opinion they get is go buy Tudor instead, save a few thousands and getting a objectively better movement inside. Yes there are a lot other factor in watch making but that's a difficult argument to get over with

I thought Zenith Invented the Chrono?
@gqwarren
@gqwarren 3 жыл бұрын
It's all about the specifics. If you're talking about automatic chronograph, Zenith El Primero was one of the first, debut in 1969, along with Calibre 11 by a joint venture of Heuer, Breitling, Buren, and Dubois-Depraz. Seiko, however, beat them to market in Japan a year prior. But if you're just talking about chronograph in general, the first chronograph was done by Longines with a monopusher in 1913, and Breitling released one with independent pusher two years later in 1915, followed by Universal Genève couple years later. Breitling was indeed the first manufacture to release the common style of chronograph we see all the time.

Zenith did not invent the first chrono it has been used in pocket watches. Breitling introduced the first independent push piece. Zenith was the first to announce an automatic chronograph but Breitling was the first to market.

Good but I can argue about the statement that Rolex is the king of watches. What about Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre, Vacheron Constantin, Breguet, Lange und Sohne, Patek Philippe, Beaume et Mercier, Omega... It's a matter of taste. If one wants to show the wealthy side he shows up with a Rolex. The name is ugly to me, models too but the Submariner and Seadweller.
@tomscott4438
@tomscott4438 2 жыл бұрын
The deal with Tudor existed before the B01 introduction. Much lower risk factor. You failed to mention that the Tudor, although difficult to acquire, lists for $3400 less than the Breitling. You also compared it to the Omega Speedmaster which sells for $2200 less, but failed to mention the more comparable Speedmaster Racing. For the same price, the Racing has a third hand within the minutes subdial, twin barrels, a silicon hairspring, full bridge, co axial escapement, and superior finishing. If you're going to make comparisons, mention everything.

It is a bit chunky. Tried one on recently and thought it sat up high on the wrist. It would be difficult to wear under a dress shirt sleeve. Not what it was intended for, but would be nice if you could.
