Love this -- Rowles' comping brings a sense of the abstract to what might otherwise be run-of-the-mill soul jazz, and he sets up something unique behind each of the horns.

Absolutely right! Rowles' pianism was a real gem that enchanted so many sessions.

Eddie Vinson knows how to deposit Organic Real Jazz that is coherent and logically progressive. He sets the improvisational mood for tenorist David Newman who is forever great at manhandling the Blues with smooth pathos and soulfulness. Hank Crawford is known for his sound which does command the audience's undivided attention. Not known for being an ace improvisor, Hand Crawford offers a bit of a surprise herein. He demonstrates that he can be reasonably effective in the amphitheatre of Blues ad libitum. The Band does its thing admirably well. Nice post!
