Croxden Abbey, nestled in Staffordshire, England, was a medieval Cistercian monastery founded in the 12th century. Established around 1176 by Bertram de Verdun, a local landowner, and initially settled by monks from the nearby Poulton Abbey, Croxden Abbey flourished as a center of religious devotion and agricultural productivity.
Throughout its history, Croxden Abbey faced challenges typical of medieval monastic life, including economic struggles, conflicts with neighboring landowners, and periodic outbreaks of disease. Despite these difficulties, the abbey continued to thrive, expanding its influence and acquiring additional lands and properties.

Wow, this video is packed with amazing information! 🤯 I never knew about Croxton Abbey's fascinating history, from its founding by Bertram III de Verdun to those tumultuous 14th-century events. It's crazy to think the sheep from this abbey were supplying wool to all of Europe! 🐑 looking forward to more in-depth historical videos like this! 👍

Hi Alessa & Brett! Beautiful abbey with some very attractive stonework. Interesting fact about them supplying more wool than any other supplier 🐑🐑The Abbot made sure he had a most splendid and separate accommodation then, lol? It was strange to see the open tombs, but fascinating nonetheless. What a wonderful historic monastery with such a rich and fascinating history. Another very interesting vlog with some great drone footage at the end. ❤❤
