Love this series. Regarding the fan shroud... any thoughts to adding a round flange to capture the edge of the fan blades? That will create a draw path from the radiator core and increase the efficiency of the fan and the ridgity of the shroud. Cheers.

The straight line sheet metal cutter you were using was invented be Al Swink. He also invented the car wash after WW2 using B-17 supercharger motors to blow the cars dry. He went on to become the Mayor of Santa Monica, Ca.

For the shroud, this is a system that should get a lot of ram air, so I'd include check gates in the fan shroud so air can get out through it. NAPP makes one for Miatas, you can look at that for reference. It's quite simple, it just takes some rectangular holes and oversized rubber flaps. Much like oil pan baffles with one-way gates.
@chrismichaelyoung6 ай бұрын
I think they mentioned they were going to build in some gates like that for the same reason. Not sure how they're planning to do it, so using an aftermarket part as reference might be useful for them

I know it takes time to work on a side project. But I’m so stoked to see that fender take shape. I hope it’s very close to the rendering. Learned something too, when wheeling realized I’ve experienced shape bleed and had zero clue what was going on. Now I’ll watch for that. Thanks fellas.
@dclipper80526 ай бұрын
Neat work, guys! Regarding the joint between the side and top of the fender, along the wire framework--I suggest making that radius as large as possible so that it doesn't even read as a corner. Rather, like one big continuous curve.

Not likely functional given the huge gap but having a ring around that fan would look tough and add some character. It's steel it'll be easy to weld ;)
@Jauertussen16 ай бұрын
solution, get a CNC water cutter instead. can actually handle relative thick steel to. and no edges, smooth as a babys behind. also dont you need a tunnel for that fan? think it enhances the amount of air it pulls

If something bothers me on the car channels. It's when you start a project and it doesn't end. I haven't heard about the Porsche 928 for months. I'm a big fan of that car. , a platonic love since I saw it in Tom Cruise's film Risky Business, it was my first scale gift car and I saw every step that was taken on the channel. Now I see this project that is going very well but I feel a certain lack of love because the 928 continues without moving forward. Don't leave the project stranded

Even though that fan is moving a lot of air I reckon you need a shroud/short duct around it to separate the air from being pulled radially from beside the fan instead of through the rad. (IMHO)

You will continue to have cooling problems because you do not have a thermostat that also reduces flow to allow rear cylinders to stay at an even temp throughout the engine
@CrucibleCoachworks6 ай бұрын
The electric water pump is designed to be used without a thermostat. It adjusts flow by slowing down or speeding up the pump to regulate temperature.

I just do not understand your mentality. Driving a car that has barely welded panels is plain dumb. You are throwing all kinds of c rap all over the car, which you then need to clean off before you can weld it. Makes no sense. On tap of that , there is a distinct lack of forward planning, which can ultimately bite you in the ass down the line. Surely you should build the systems for the car and prove they work , before building a body, otherwise you are likely going to have issues down the line. There are great build series out there, see Brough Builds, Fanatik or project pinky, for a methodical approach. Of course this is your project, so you can do what you like, but you often come across as hapless people with no forethought whatsoever
