I mean they don't give her a really good reason for being evil or anything, but they do try to explain it in a way. In this really sappy scene with the Baroness (they try to make it a vulnerable moment between her and Cruella...it fails). She sort of implies that the reason she is the way she is, is because she had to claw her way to the top making a name for herself in a male dominated world. Yep. Somehow that justifies abusing innocent people on the reg.

Yeah, this is what I hate about those Disney "villain" movies. They never go all the way to make the character truly evil. Making a comparison with the Joker, the first time he kills is on self defense, the second and third is for vengeance, and then kills just for the sake of it. He descent from being a character we can relate to one that is simply evil. They make him relatable without trying to redeem him. Disney just does everything they can to change their own canon and redeem the character, which is not only less interesting but silly and stupid.

Even Joker pissed me off though after the director said he didn't kill Sophie. Like, I thought it was so obvious that he killed Sophie, he shows up at her house, she sees him, he does the gun to the head motion, she looks horrified, and then there's a cut to him in his apartment laughing with a bunch of sirens blaring past. But no, the director confirms he "only killed people who had wronged him" or whatever. Which...is not what the Joker does. At first he would only kill those who wronged him, but then it makes sense for him to kill someone he views as having wronged him /if only in his head/, to show that he's sinking further into madness until he sees all of society as having wronged him and becomes the full-fledged Joker. But no. So I even think Joker didn't go far enough in having him turn into the psychotic joker that kills indiscriminately that we all know and love.

@Czah53 жыл бұрын
I discussed with my wife that sometimes it is just better if your villain is just evil for the sake of being evil. It makes them unpredictable. Whenever they are on the screen/page tension is high and you are at full attention because you have no idea what they are going to do (i.e. Mr. Blonde). Cruella worked better when she was, well, a turboc_nt because you had absolutely no idea (especially as a kid) how far she was willing to go to get what she wanted.

Though Anita, Roger, or Horace and Jasper react in different ways to her flamboyantly toxic personality, all of these characters share a fear of this "inhuman beast". In all fairness, Ursula actually WAS chased out of King Triton’s Domain for unspecified reasons. Though the Little Mermaid seems to consider that to be the reason she specifically targets Ariel and desires ripping Triton’s kingdom from him, she is ALSO a clearly disturbed individual who enjoys manipulating people and making deals to add to her garden. Obviously, Ursula being ostracized for being a woman would probably be the direction they go, but King Triton is probably a massive enabler for letting her make her deals out on the fringes instead of making her make deals on the inside with full legal authority to arrest her if she steps out of line. Arguably Triton banishing her was actually incredibly empowering, not that any reboot would have that sort of nuanced discussion about the implications of banishment.

Y'know for the fur obsession/ skinning of puppies subject, they could do something as brief as the origin name of Cruella and De Vil, examples: - When Cruella goes to the eccentric guy's shop to ask for help, then saw a coat made of some kind of animals skin/fur and as she felt it, she says "it looks great... and feel so real too". Then the guy says that it is real and it is his own product. And thats the moment for her starting to love fur product and have more reason to recruit the eccentric guy since he would also be a capable skinner. - When Cruella says that the dalmatians would've been nice as a coat, they should've make her say that statement to the eccentric guy (cause we didn't know if he has a sympathy towards animals or not, so maybe he won't object the idea) which then he would say that it wouldn't be enough. That will make Cruella to hold that idea until she has 101 of the dalmatians. They can have more reason to make the whole "oh no she did skin the dogs... oh wait she didn't" scene. In conclusion, the eccentric guy really didn't do much in the movie to earn a spot with Cruella in her mansion, I didn't even know what his name is. Disney could've make Cruella become more insane and obsessed for dalmatian as the story goes but didn't.

My story: In 1978 I was 11 and I took a class in animation at E. Los Angeles College. It was taught by Disney animator Dan MacManus, and he animated Cruella Deville’s cigarette smoke. This was a wonderful experience; and I remember storytelling being much clearer back then. These new spinoff reimagining things are not the way of wisdom

this movie has a strange philosophy that heritage can have an extreme effect on behavior. As in, like, it assumes you are doomed to act almost identically to your parents. Which I just find an extremely odd message, made more to justify Cruella than to actually tell a good message. And if im honest if you take that message to its natural conclusion it seems a bit racist honestly. Like, is it trying to justify that whole "white people should feel guilty for being slave owners" thing? Or is it, just as I said, a stupid way to justify Cruella's actions?

Disney has the reverse midas touch, everything it touches nowdays turns into shit. I guess next time we are seeing how the baroness was not really bad because cruella ate her son or something, then the story of how Cruella's mother ate hi to save a puppy, then how the puppy was evil and then on how it was all a plot form Loki so we can tie this to the marvel multiverse.

I'm thinking that movie industry works with old standards. I mean, they look at money goal that was decades ago. Because cinema is mainstream now, they reach this goal easily. Which means quality drops because it's easy to succeed. This is a general view. Why make a good movie, when any movie can bring in movie? Good movies are hard to make. they require dedication.

This movie made me facepalm twice. Once because I couldn't believe they went for the heist thing as if crazy robberies were the only thing happening in the 70s. Second was seeing they pulled the "villain is actually my parent all along" trope. The latter only everworking for Star Wars.

So she's like Haru from Fruits Basket? I think villains need to be shown a little more respect. Seems it would have made more sense if she lived as the daughter of the baroness and saw her kill a random woman and then as she grew she developed that same mentality until one day eclipsing her mother and killing her off to seize her fortune. Maybe she was always compared to her mother so she dyed her hair in such a manner to show she was her own person and her predilections and desires were her own. Set her up as someone who knows what she likes and has developed a ruthless nature to acquire them and end it off with her setting her sights on fur without showing her go for it. Heck if you cultivate a villain beforehand and show what they're capable of you can have a sequel where their presence looms throughout it even when they aren't on screen. Cruella De Vil Cruella De Vil If she doesn't scare you No evil thing will To see her is to Take a sudden chill Cruella, Cruella De Vil The curl of her lips The ice in her stare All innocent children Had better beware She's like a spider waiting For the kill Look out for Cruella De Vil At first you think Cruella is the devil But after time has worn Away the shock You come to realize You've seen her kind of eyes Watching you from underneath A rock! This vampire bat This inhuman beast She ought to be locked up And never released The world was such A wholesome place until Cruella, Cruella De Vil

They wouldn’t, apparently you can’t even say his name on KZbin videos so stop making straw man arguments just to hate Disney, yes Disney has and will still make big mistakes, but the issue is more the execution rather than exploring and expanding stories even if there was an agenda (wich oddly enough there is not, so don’t make Disney a cartoon villain just because you read it on your internet bubble please)

I got that sea sickness feeling when I watched the gungan war in Episode 1 back in 2001. Technicaly it wasnt sea sickness because I am physically incapable of feeling that, but I could definitely identify that the scene was actually trying to activate that part of my system. To this day I haven’t felt anything as weird as that.
