When you see the cars rotating up close, you can see how much better the details are in the arcade version. However, when the game is actually in progress, other than a significantly diminished HUD on the N64 version, the two look nearly identical. So this is a phenomenal port! Arcade is still better....but man, oh man is it hard to say anything bad about the home version! In terms of which version of the music I like better, it's give and take.

Yeah it’s a good port honestly. I think probably the reason gamers at the time were a bit disappointed was just because everyone was told that the arcade used the N64’s hardware so people expected the port to be identical. I guess it’s a bit like that Sony PS3 E3, people felt lied to a bit. But I love the port and have great memories playing the arcade game. One in particular when a friend got really far in the game in the arcades and I was rooting for him. But suddenly his leg started to twitch out of control and he could no longer hold the acceleration pedal and couldn’t finish the race but he was almost at the finish line 😸. It was so heartbreakingly hilarious

It's REALLY fucking close, honestly. And there's a reason for that. The biggest reason that Cruis'n USA was sub-par on N64 (aside from being made by Williams instead of Eurocom), is that USA was rushed, to get it ready in time for the N64 launch window (though you'd think they had plenty of time, and it should have been available on launch DAY). With World, Midway actually allowed Eurocom to take their time making it, to ensure it would be as good as possible, as close to "Arcade Perfect" as possible. And to that end, while this game was originally supposed to release on N64 in 1997, it got quietly delayed all the way until September 1998 . And clearly, that was a GOOD thing, as not only is it basically arcade perfect, but they added extra content (new track, 4 player, Championship Mode, etc.). Great port, one of the best N64 games.

I've played both versions in actual hardware. Though the arcade was innovative at the time (but hard to play), the N64 is actually a good home port. I don't know what got in people's heads saying it's bad, specifically the music, but, trust me, it's good. Only thing I criticize is the minor censorship of the trophy girl and the ending when you reach the White House.

Obviously, the Arcade version is more dynamic and a better version overall. The Trophy Girl in the Nintendo 64 version was conservatively dressed probably because of NOA's strict policies and that was probably why the 64 port was kinda shot down somewhat. Either way, it's still fun to play.

Esse assim como no sega rally,daytona e outros eram os famosos arcades de 50 centavos... enquanto a ficha dos arcades comuns era 25 centavos e até 10 centavos dependendo estes eram 50 e posteriormente 1 real. Comprei a versão de N64 por 20 reais. Um dos jogos mais baratos que comprei. É até bacaninha no N64 só que os controles respondem de forma estranha se comparado com outros jogos do console.

Very close versions here. It looks like one of the biggest differences is they used a larger ROM size for the arcade version which is why it has some high res textures (especially on the cars on the title screen). The pop-in on the N64 version is better than the arcade version because it fades in instead of just appearing on a single frame as it does in the arcade version. Car shadows on the N64 versions are just boxes, which is odd. I'm guessing it's a small square image scaled while the arcade version probably used a larger rounded rect. Again, this would fall under ROM size issues for the N64 version.

When you think about it?! The N64 is about as close as it could be to the original 1994 arcade version except the sound and the music tracks are much more prominent in the console version and yeah the bikini clad censorship but otherwise more than enough in a competent version. I miss crazy wacky racing games like Cruis'n USA that didn't take the genre itself too seriously and it was more based on fun than ultra realism! Racing games now are SO realistic and so life like that they all look alike and there's nothing that separates each franchise apart from 1 another, they could all be the same game for all I know?! Take San Francisco RUSH which lost it's way and it's roots trying to be ultra hip hop realistic LA RUSH?!! Because of such realism and graphic prowess of the modern console variants, will we ever accept games based on fun than realism?! Sigh...

The one thing that I didnt understand at the time was most of the midwest states were skipped and would take you straight to Iowa right after Arizona. I think a good chunk of the game was in california and had they only used maybe three stages from California they would have been able to develop stages for Oklahoma, Colorado and maybe South Dakota.

Ive played this in arcade and on n64, i can tell you the arcade has way better detail and textures, the n64 as usual blurry low res textures. In this video its not as obvious as in realtime. I loved the arcade and was excited for the n64 release, but first time i saw it on n64 i was clearly dissapointed. Similar with Killer Instinct, i loved the arcade and again was dissapointed by the n64 port. Most of all I do hate the texture blurring and anti aliasing on n64, if nintendo wouldnt made that specific hardware choice for the n64 probably the n64 games would look a lot better. If they would just use those texture/aliasing bits leftovers to improve enviromental architecture for example, or better textures...oh wait, the memory limitations of the n64 is the other problem...ah well

There is just one flaw from the N64 version - Once you get some lead on other cars, they lose all their speed and never catches you back. So if you manage to get a lead and they spin out, that's a free-win. You can hit traffic more than 3 times and they won't catch you back. Another major difference is cornering drops almost no speed, meanwhile in the arcades it costs you a lot of speed. In the arcade you have to find the peak grip of your cornering without losing speed, this doesn't happen on n64 because you simply doesn't need to. I think the IA algorithm to lose all their speed was made intentionally, to make the game easier, and reduce the aumont of on-screen racers, saving a lot of n64's cpu time. It was my first n64 and only game for quite a long time, so I know absolutely everything about the n64 port. If these two aspects were changed, the game would be almost a perfect port of the arcade. It also runs faster and much more smooth than the arcade!

Cool so many memories, I was hoping that when the Sega Dreamcast came out this title would get the official upgrade it highly deserved like they did Soul Calibur. The Dreamcast version port of this game would of been better than the arcade and 64 version combined I promise you that with all the trimmings. Ficaram muito parecidos aqui nesta comparação... mas a versão do N64 está rodando em emulador em uma resolução bem superior a original deste game no console (320x240) e por isso está parecendo muito melhor do que realmente era. O frame rate também está melhor por conta da emulação que utiliza a GPU para acelerar os gráficos. Enquanto o versão arcade apesar de também ser emulado, está na resolução original e por conta da emulação do Ultra64 ser bem pesado (não usa GPU para o 3D, ficando isso por conta da CPU também) o frame rate está sendo afetado. Joguei muito as duas versões na época e o motivo pelo qual eu jogava o arcade mesmo tendo o cartucho do jogo era porque os gráficos no arcade eram muito superiores (resolução e frame rate) ao do console. Uma comparação justa só seria possível usando o hardware original para as capturas.

Both versions look very close, except the arcade cars have a better polygon count, a bit better texture detail, and a bit better framerate.. but not that much.

the n64 graphics are very comparable to the arcade. only a slight bit more "pop-in" can be noticed. Also, it seems they toned down the pretty girl at the end by making her wear a T-shirt instead of a bikini top. Too bad. I thought she was fine.

Very, very close. The N64 conversion was destroyed by critics at the time, but mostly because it was an older game already. The "Ultra 64" was delayed so badly, by the time it came out, this game and Killer Instinct were irrelevant. Arcade has better textures. N64 has better frame rate and "smoothed" pop-up. Back in the day pop-up scenery was a given, even Daytona has it, but by the time the N64 came out it wasn't acceptable anymore, either you covered it with fog or other effects or you managed some way to avoid it completely. All in all an excellent conversion of a dated game

Casi no hay diferencias salvo pequeños detalles. Me parece que N64 hizo la mejor conversión arcade en consolas.

Es porque originalmente el juego iba a ser idéntico al arcade, ya que este la placa madre del arcade traia los chips de la nintendo 64. Solo que el arcade es de 15 MB mientras que el juego de la N64 es de 8MB por eso las pequeñas diferencias.

Na tela de abertura, quando aparece os carros girando em zoom, dá pra notar na lanterna do carro cinza q as texturas do N64 são levemente inferior do arcade (mto pouco). Fora isso, o jogo é praticamente arcade perfect, com leves diferenças. Não vejo pq o pessoal criticar esse jogo, achei a conversão mto fiel. Na época meu primo tinha esse jogo e eu me divertia. Visualmente é bonito, comparando aos borrados enjoativos q os jogos de N64 costuma a ter, nesse jogo aparece menos. Cruis'n USA é inferior aos jogos de corrida da Sega, mesmo assim tem seu charme.

Both look good, the arcade is slightly smoother but the n64 version has singing. I prefer the n64 version of the game.

@@kaihedgie1747 yes Cruis'n USA did. On the N64. It didn't have the drunk driver car, the city bus, or the diesel. If it did show me a copy and show you playing with them on the N64. Also, you can not use hacks or a game shark to do it. I want to see you do it normally. Cause, you could only press one of the buttons and play with those on the arcade. So til you can prove it.

@@kaihedgie1747 I know I played with those on the stand up version at Walmart years ago. Cause, it was the only reason despite having the game on my N64 at home. That I would play the arcade still. Just so I could play around with those three cars. This is weird cause this is not the first game of midway this has happened to. I remember UMK3 for the Sega having everyone from the previous ones in it's roster and wrestle mania the arcade game having the full roster and not just the Sega version. It also happened with a commercial about my favorite candy bar.
