The crummy thing about Outrun was also losing 5-7 seconds anytime you crashed. Do it more than once and you might as well restart the map. Was happy when I first played Crusin’ USA and found that this was not an issue

0:03 @@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries , I wonder if you covered The Fast and the Furious arcade and console racing games in your video as well? I think that one of them was horribly redone as the Wii title of Cruis'N', which was a low point for the franchise.

I bet you _really_ hated Ferrari F355 Challenge. Sega was always more punishing in their racing games which are more fitting for home consoles where you can practice instead of the arcade where it's eating quarters quickly.
@groidcel

You missed the entire point of arcade games you dingus. They're meant to be punishing so you can pump more quarters in so the operator can keep their doors open

The Cruis'n series is definitely some of my favorite Arcade racing titles. Every time I go to the Arcade, movie theater, or pizza joint, and I see a Cruis'n game there, it was definitely my go-to Arcade game I would play. I remember back in 2017, I tried Cruis'n Blast at Dave & Buster's, and it was a lot of fun. Of course it got released on the Nintendo Switch and it is STILL a blast to play albeit no online multiplayer modes.

Honestly, what the game needs is to have the Wii title of Cruis'N' to totally be redone, as well as to make an equivalent to the Super Mario All-Stars/Super Mario Collection/Super Mario All-Stars and Super Mario World bundle pack, but with the Cruis'N' games, and, hopefully, with the permission of the proper parties, to have the additional The Fast and the Furious, as well as The Fast and the Furious: Super Bikes, games ported to the Switch in this collection, as well as to also add bonus games, such as Excitebike 64, Excite Truck, and the entire Excitebike series, including the FDS/Japanese games, into the collection as well.

I'm really salty when I remember this game, because my father asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I said this game, but a sellsman was like "if your son likes that, buy "San Francisco Rush 2049"!!" This is the second time I was let down by my father, because "San Francisco Rush 2049" and "Cruisin' USA" aren't AT ALL the same experience!! It sucked!! 🤬🤬

I just want to say you are one the few arcade video gaming documentary channels that I actually stop and take the time to watch. You actually go into deep detail about the development of these games. (Unlike so many other channels that just rush 10 minute video to get max KZbin advertisement money. And barely go into details of the history of making the game).

Pat, I’ve been binging your videos for the past few days and thoroughly enjoying all of them. Thank you for all the effort and dedication you put into these! The Cruisin’ games are a fondly remembered part of my childhood. The local pizza place in my tiny hometown had the stand up version and it was one I always played when my parents took me. When USA came out on the N64 I scrounged up from my jobs delivering papers and mowing lawns to get it. I spent SO many hours playing it! I’d love to see more videos on the various sequels and other Eugene Jarvis games on this channel!

Found this channel because I was raised a feral child in arcades, and I was fascinated to know everything about mad dog McCree. Not only did Patman deliver, but it is so amazing that he has covered every arcade classic! Hours of playing Outrun in the car-shaped cabinet at the local arcade is probably why I'm still drawn to the genre (e.g. Slipstream and 80's Overdrive on the Switch). It's a shame I never got to play Cruis'n USA back then.

Well done! I love this series. It was fun arcade racing games like this that made me a retro gamer and track down a N64. I have all the Cruis'n games on the N64 and I can tell you the N64 Race Wheel really imposes the twitchy game controls. I also have Cruis'n for the Wii as well as Crus'n Blast on the Switch. In a sea of hyper realistic racers, these Cruis'n games are a breath of fresh air with their focus on fun arcade style racing.

Cruis'n USA was a cool game I remember my cousins owning a restaurant in the neighborhood back in 95' and they had 7 arcade cabinets in the store. They said they had room for one more and I vouched for this one, so they bought it and it was a hit with customers especially with me because they only let me play free during closing time on Thursday and Saturday nights. Those were the days! 😁

Awesome video as always. I adore Cruisn' USA and its sequels. Its such a shame that most aren't playable in MAME still... as the N64 ports whilst ok (especially when upscaled) don't play the same. I was really hopeful Eugene would release a Cruisn' series compilation on the Switch... but at least we got Blast. One thing to note is Cruisn' also came out on the Wii which was basically Fast & Furious arcade game with a name swap. The Wii struggled to run it though. I am so desperate to play this again in the arcade... Arcade Club in the UK had a stand up once when I went years ago there... but it got replaced... Each time I go in the queue at Arcade Club they have a Cruisn Exotica not working which rubs it in to me as I never got to play it in the arcades only on the N64. I do adore Raw Thrill games and really wish they released their games in the home... So many from their Super Cars, Super Bikes, Dirty Drivin' etc are pure heaven and more people need to play it. I was really hoping this would happen after Cruisn' Blast got released... but I guess sales weren't great.

Totally giving this game a try. The whole crossing the USA idea seems awesome. I had heard of it on the N64 but never got around to playing it. Have MAME installed now and going to fire it up and go for the full arcade experience :D

Ha, those selectable songs for Outrun were something else. ;) Outrun, I wish had continues but a classic arcade game. Hard Drivin' was cool, but very tough at first. Crusin' USA was a fun game and a little easier for me than Outrun. Thanks for the great reviews and console versions, Patman!

Huh there is a fourth hidden car at least on the link cabinets. Had to hold the top and bottom view buttons(or all three it’s been decades...) swing the wheel left, swing the wheel right then double tap the gas and select the italia P69 and as it exits the garage it is the same car but green with white stripe.

I also recall "Midtown Madness" and "Streets of SimCity" along with "SimCopter" The one I always hoped for a sequel was SimCopter...it was so far ahead of its time, you could build your city in SimCity2000 then fly it in SimCopter. That was just too awesome at the time!

@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries Raw Thrills was founded by Jarvis himself, and the F&F arcade games were designed by him, meaning that F&F were more or less sequels/ succesors to Cruisin', but with an actual brand behind it. No wonder why there's so many raw thrills racing games in American arcades.

Outrun like bad dudes, double dragon was always a 7-11 game. That was the first time i played it. Cruzin was one of the few decent games on the N64. Switch version is not bad. Speaking of censorship Cararmageddon is even worse. I have the original pc version. Very violent. Running over handicap people and leaving blood tracks is so much fun. No offense. Its just a game

My arcade had the deluxe full motion cabinet, and it was a blast. As with so many other 90's classics, I just wish I'd had the funds to play it a lot more. Fortunately it was more merciful than Outrun and gave a decent bang for your buck.
