My wife probably drinks 8 drinks max, and that’s on the 1st day, after that she’ll drink maybe 4 or 5 drinks. Me I’m sober and I think the people that complained need help

Okay serious question, people leave 9 month olds in daycare (probably the majority of the people complaining) for longer periods of time than an excursion, what’s the difference? If you look up the requirements that the employees have to meet they are more stringent than a lot of daycares that parents across the country leave their kids at. As he explained there are a lot of things that the ship either requires or suggests of the parents. It may not be something I’d do myself but at the same time it’s not any different than getting a babysitter when you might want to go out to dinner.

I wouldn't personally leave a kid on board while going on an excursion, but I understand their desire. People leave 9 month old kids with sitters on land all of the time so not really a big leap, especially if they are on a Royal excursion.

There’s nothing wrong with hiring a babysitter whether at home or on a cruise. Parents need time together without a baby monopolizing every minute.

My husband and I just finished an 8 day cruise on Virgin. We got a $300 bar tab (for both of us). My husband barely drinks, maybe 1 per day. I drank whatever I wanted as it was basically free, and I couldn't use up the money. I probably had about 2-4 drinks per day. Even heavy drinkers, 15 per day is a lot of alcohol! And I don't see any issue with leaving a baby/kids with a babysitter.

I only buy the package on Princess because it includes wifi, tips etc. On other lines its not worth it to me because I may have 2 drinks a day but 4 or 5 coffees.

Drink pkg is a no for us. We just don't drink that much. We bring soda on with us. The coffee and tea and lemonade is good enough for us with meals. Parents leaving kids?? Maybe if I were just going shopping in the port area for an hour or two. BUT..if the ship offers this service of babysitting while parents go on ship booked excursions, where they KNOW the parents are off ship, not just in the casino, then I guess it would be ok. The ship is basically taking the responsibility, the parents are just using the service offered.

For those who want some time away from the kids and drop them at kids club or with a sitter, I think if you're comfortable with it, I think it's up to you. I see no difference in the parent whose child is right there with them but who is so drunk they can't stand up straight and the parent who left their kid at the pool and went to get a bite to eat or the parent who left their kid in the room and spent hours at the casino, to me that is ALL bad parenting. Just because you are "there" doesn't mean you are THERE. this parent at least is ensuring that there is a responsible person to watch the child while they are off doing something- Which to me, is no different than hiring a babysitter back home.

Regarding the cancellation, is it considered cancellation if you are booking another cruise? I think it should be considered as change and not cancel. There’s a huge difference between the two.

On a Port Day the Wife & I may have maybe 4 Drinks between Us , a Cruise Day 6--8 so it's gotten to the point of not worth it .. I'm OLD SCHOOL and if I can't take a Child on a Tour I don't GO ... And Cruise ON !!!

My wife and I recently cruised on Princess cruise line, and we both purchased the drink package. On a 7 day cruise, there wasn't a day when we both reashed our maximum of 15 drinks per day and in fact we didn't come close. For that reason, I would suggest the cruise line should have a 3 teared drink package. 1) a 7 drink per day max package 2) a 15 drink per day max package and 3) an unlimited drink per day package. That should meet with everybody's budget! On the other hand, make the 15 day max drink package for a couple instead of one person. Stop the money grab cruise lines!!!!!!!

I think a drink limit is very much needed for ALL drink packages. If you drink 15 or more alcoholic drinks in a 12 hr period then that is enough for anyone and if you want more then you my friend have a drinking problem and just go pay for the overage and shut up!!! This is my opinion and I do buy the drink package!

I can’t drink that much, so I don’t buy the package. If the cruise ships take away more and more then people will stop going. I myself love cruises and going on my first since 2019 because of Covid. Can’t wait- I have the first coming up February 1 on the Margaritaville at sea out of Tampa and a second one to Alaska with friends in September this year- very excited about both of them. I don’t have children but would NOT leave the ship without them if I did. Onboard is a different story as I’m there in case of an emergency. If you’re on an excursion it would take a long time getting back and that wouldn’t be my first red flag. Thanks for all the information you provide on your site. Appreciate you ❤

yes i would stop cruising, GREED is setting in; I am currently in the process of canceling a cruise and i have insurance but i dont know how its going to work; money back or credit? i wouldn’t leave my child under any circumstance with someone else while i go on an excursion

I made a cabin change over a year ahead of the cruise and Carnival charged me $50/00 per person in the cabin as an "ADMINISTRTIVE FEE". Really!!!!

The 15 drink limit, does that include non-alcoholic beverages too? I think if you’re drinking 15 alcoholic beverages per day that might make you an alcoholic. The cruise ship should have AA meetings for activities for some cruisers, lol. As for the parents that wanted to go on a short excursion without their nine month old baby, they could hire a babysitter so they could go on a shark excursion by themselves. Or it would be nice to take your child with you on a short excursion. Everyone should check out matters on the map. Kevin and Taylor just went on a hole in America cruise in 2024 and took their two year old son. He travels everywhere with them. They used to have a RV and we go in the winter time down to Baja and have great adventures with your son. When Wyatt was only four months old, he went on his first trip to the province of Newfoundland and Canada and again had great adventures with his parents.

15 alcoholic drinks a day is a lot and I guess if you need the 16th or 17th you could choose a cheaper drink to be added to your bill. 15 seems to be the standard limit at the moment for most cruise lines. Personally, I think leaving the yacht club people as an exception would have been a better idea. Very few passengers make it to 15 daily drink limit and since the yacht club is a small number of passengers, might as well leave in that perk.

I’ve never left my kids on board when we’ve gotten off the ship for an excursion or otherwise. Frankly I’d be worried about what could happen if, god forbid, we didn’t make it back onto the ship on time. Accident, medical emergency, even with a cruise line booked excursion something could happen. Also if my child gets hurt while in the ship staff’s care I wouldn’t be able to get to my child fast enough even if they were being properly cared for by on board medical staff. Not a risk I’d be willing to take.

My comment about leaving the baby is simple. If you have no children with you and are on an excursion let’s say in a cathedral do you want that tired 9 month old screaming next to you while you are trying to hear the guide? We get babysitters for all sorts of things at home. We leave them in care while we go to work. I think if you are comfortable leaving the baby and they have a means of contacting you then it’s a personal choice.

I've cruised in MSC Yacht Club several times, and given the premium you pay, I believe bringing in a drink restriction policy is totally out of order, even though we would never drink more than 15 drinks a day.

I wouldn't want to leave my toddler for a whole day no matter how good the babysitting service. Many toddlers would not be happy being left with strangers and I couldn't bear for my child to be fretting for me.

My husband could drink over 15 drinks a day, but does not need to be doing that! However I'm lucky if I drink 2 or 3. The bottled waters and specialty coffees make up a small difference for me. A toddler is better off not in the hot sun and has no interest in sight seeing. Have you ever been on an excursion with a crying child and there is nothing the parents can do? They are stuck on the excursion to the end! We were and it wasn't fun.

I boarded a cruise 3 days into the cruise. This was because business. I was charged $50 . The cruise line saved serving me food and drinks for 3 days, so they should have paid me!

Parents should not be bringing children under five on a cruise in the first place. But sure, leave your brats at the babysitter while in port. There's more of a chance something will happen to them while import and on the ship.

We didn't leave our youngest child on board whilst we went ashore until she was 18. I'm not judging the parents in question but I wouldn't have been comfortable leaving my children alone in a foreign country (albeit in a relatively safe environment of a cruise ship) whilst I went ashore. Suppose there was an emergency? suppose you missed the all aboard time? The risk is just too great. I believe there is no legal limit regarding age of children left alone, maybe there should be?

I mean if the service is there why not use it me personally I have a 6 year old autistic son and he will be going there it won’t be every day and will only be like for an hour or 2 so me and my husband can really relax but I personally would never leave off the ship with out him cause if anything was to happen you can’t get to them so easily

I only have cruised between Finland-Sweden and Finland-Estonia, there are no drink packages. You can buy alcohol from the bars and duty free from the ship stores. Officially you shouldn't drink these on a ship but nobody cares as long as you don't make a mess and behave well. 15 drinks per day would be more than enough for me 🫢 I wonder if cruise companies have been thinking several packages to choose from. What comes to children, IF there are nannies for (small) children for few hours, incurances have been taken care of etc. guess few hours don't hurt. But if there are non, then the child comes with parents or all stay on a ship.

No way babies should be left on the ship without parents. Yes, they need time alone, but that what the cruise is for - plenty of time to have dinner or a show without junior. I cruised with 6 and 24 month old grandchildren. They were never left in ship’s care, but we were fortunate to have lots of relatives to share caregiving. The daycare was very generous and allowed my dear daughter-in-law to visit early in the morning before opening with the 2 year old so she could run and play with the toys.

I am shocked that parents of a nine month old child would leave them on the ship , yes they have baby sitters which is a great boon for parents to have a nice meal occasionally in peace but not to go off the ship leaving them . LEAVING YOUR CHILD -Here is a question..... The parents go on an Excursion.... An something happens on that excursion and they miss the boat.... What happens then? Will the parents be charged with neglect? As a parent.. I would be fearful of that.

We will not book Carnival and the main reason is the 15 drink limit. Other cruise lines offer unlimited drinks. Honestly we very seldom drink 15 drinks in a day. But I feel an unlimited drink package, should be unlimited.

First I am on Vacation, second, I am awake for 18 hours a day. let's say I start having beverages at 11 am and stay up until 1AM, that is 14 hours.. So they are saying that approx 1 drink an hour is too many?? Personally sitting poolside on a hot day I can drink more than one beer an hour. As for the parents leaving the baby with COMPETENT ADULT SUPERVISON while they go on an excursion arranged by the cruiseline and they know where they are? They covered all bases. If this is the one I was thinking of ... it was more a case of "poor wording" in the message that it sounded like they just left the baby in the room. "What if something happens and they miss the ship?" Well, what if you leave your child at home with a COMPETENT babysitter while you go to a wedding and a storm hits and you can't get home? What if they'd left the baby at home with a relative and the ship was a day late getting back or you missed your flight going home? Your babysitter won't look at their watch and say "Nope, not back yet, I'm leaving." That's why you hire adults.

There shouldn't be a limit in the yacht club, you pay thousands of dollars for the YC, there shouldn't be a limit! With that being said, anyone who's able to drink 15 drinks a day have a serious problem, and they need to use that money for intervention, instead of a cruise!

I would be worried to leave a young child on the ship while I took a shore excursion. Even if you are on an excursion organised by the cruise line there is still the possibility that you may not get back in time. Although a lot of people say the ship will wait for you if you are on their excursion this is not strictly true. They will wait as long as they can but eventually they have to leave. They say they will make arrangements for you to catch up with the ship but if this happens do you really want to leave your child there.

If you want people to follow you it would be better to side with the customer rather than the cruise companies which are overly greedy! There should be no charge for a cruiser cancelling soon after booking especially when they want to rebook. Cruise companies have no problem cancelling cruises if they need to or changing itineraries and don’t pay a fee to us. But, I guess that’s ok.

First off, i don't drink. Second people who say if you drink 15 drinks a day you need, AA should just shut their mouths. A lot of people like to let loose on a cruise and drink. 15 drinks in 24 hrs 1/2 of a drink per hr. In 12 hrs, it's about a 3/4 of a drink an hr. I'm 6'4 265 pounds. i could easily do that if I drank. I love all these holy people who put down people who drink. Get a life mind your own business on people who drink and wanna have fun. I'm sure they don't do this at work or they wouldn't have a job to pay for a cruise. Most people drink about half of their drink it gets warm, and they throw it away. It always seems like the huge ice cream eaters are always complaining about people who drink. My friends all drink, and they never get filthy drunk on a cruise, and they buy the package and use it.

Based on what you wrote, you clearly have serious mental health problems and are in immediate need of professional help. No one should drink 15 drinks per day--that's called unhealthy binge drinking--and if they can hold that amount of liquor down, they definitely have an alcohol problem and really do need mental health help.
