Cruiser the Australian Dingo Needs Your Help

Could Cruiser the Dingo, and I, just have a moment of your time? It’s about something that is really quite close to our hearts.
I appreciate that this is a controversial topic in Australia, but I thought if you’re like us, you might also think the use of 1080 poison just isn’t right. Most especially used on our native wildlife like Dingoes. And if you weren’t aware, it’s not just used on Dingoes, but Brush Tail Possums too.
Maybe this is the first time you’ve heard about it, or perhaps you do already know about it, but didn’t know we have a choice to not use it. Perhaps you didn’t know what you could do to change things.
This petition is somewhere we can start and something small and easy we can do.

Small, but the difference it could make to the preservation of our beautiful Australian Dingo could turn out to be so very big. Plus you will have the opportunity to take a stand against 1080 poison.
Australia is among just 6 countries in the world that still legalise 1080 Poison.
The name 1080 comes from being the one thousand and eightieth chemical studied by scientists who were making poison to kill rats and other rodents during World War 2.
It is one of the most toxic substances known to exist in the world. There is no known antidote. It is a white, odourless and tasteless poison that is considered a chemical of security concern by the Federal Australian government. It is in the same restricted regulatory schedule as other notorious poisons like arsenic or cyanide.
In Australia, it is used to kill unwanted wildlife. Despite claims that it is target-specific, it is frequently ingested by and kills non-target animals.
The dying process from 1080 poison is excruciating and long.
Animals poisoned with 1080 scream, vomit, defecate and suffer violent and prolonged seizures. They die with a final convulsion anywhere between 30 minutes and 72 hours after ingesting the poison. In some species, death can occur even later.
The RSPCA have claimed it to be ‘not humane’.
This petition is asking the House to place Moratoriums on: LETHAL DINGO CONTROL and, POSSESSION OF 1080.
Dingoes are Australia’s only terrestrial apex-predator. Stable packs of dingoes are vital to the biodiversity and survivability of our unique ecosystems and native species.

I’ll never forget the day the foundation of my beliefs were revealed. My father took me for a bike ride and we stopped in the park at a bench. Looking down at the ground I noticed a big bug walking by. As I motioned my foot to step on it, my dad stopped me and said, “No, don’t hurt him, he want to live too, just like people. The term "wild dogs" is often used to make the public think that feral dogs r being killed, not our native dingoes.

This is purposely not made public knowledge by government agencies responsible because of the backlash public knowledge would cause. Twice a year 1080 baits are dropped by plane or helicopter over thousands of square kilometres in every state through government sponsored aerial baiting programs. 1080 doesn't only cause a horrendous death for Dingoes, almost any living creature that ingests 1080 either through bait or secondary poison suffers the same hideous death, including almost all native species especially carnivorous natives and birds. Australia and NZ are the only countries that have ignored the worldwide ban on 1080 and it is freely handed out to every landholder through council and local land services autumn and spring baiting programs.

Signed, 1080 should be banned in Australia, we’ve had local Sunshine Coast residents loose their dogs to 1080 while out walking on the beach, councils have placed 1080 in and around sand dunes to protect turtle hatchment with little signage to warn people, it only takes a split second for a dog to pick up a bait and carry it or fetch it back to its owners and the effects are deadly. I’m not convinced that 1080 is only harmful to the canine species. Exactly how well has this, obviously dangerous cyanide-like chemical, been studied? How do they know it would not be harmful to the turtles or the eggs? Many years ago, in the late 1960’s DDT was a chemical that was used by farmers to kill mosquitoes and eggs. Well, it was also killing the fish, birds, eggs of birds, and it was effecting the people who ate the fish, deer, and other wildlife. Pregnancies were lost, birth weights were down, it was a major mess! By 1974 it was finally stopped, but much damage was done. Our Bald Eagle’s were near extinction! It took a few decades to recover. I don’t think any sort of chemical “weapon” should be used against any animal. The Dingo is native to Australia for a reason. They are a predator; nature’s way of controlling the wild animal population. Humans have no business attempting to control the cycle of life in the wild. Whenever they have, they’ve mucked it up!! Badly I might add. Humans need to learn to just leave well enough alone! Live in peace with the Dingoes.

Please google 'wild dog control in Australia'. Dingoes are called wild dogs because that sounds more acceptable to the public who believe wild dogs must be feral dogs or hybrid Dingoes. Both of which have been proven by genetics and DNA research to be false. Interesting fact: Pure Dingoes can be any of a number of different coat colours including black/tan, black/white, pure black, pure white, brindle (yes brindle is a natural colour of pure Dingoes), sable (Alsatian colour) and piebald (white with brown, tan, black or brindle patches). Only 54% of over 6,000 wild Dingoes studied for research were the well known yellow coat, brindle coat was found to be the second most common colour of pure wild Dingoes with 14%. Black and Tan as well as sable were also common in wooded and rainforest environment.

Possums are great animals. So many people don't know how important they are to us. They eat insects, love munching on ticks which keeps people and animals safe from diseases. People cannot accept that possums cannot carry or be infected with rabies. I grew up in a wooded (bush) area and we always had raccoons, skunks, and possums surrounding us. The only problem these animals caused were getting into the trash. It was an easy fix. Scavengers and opportunists because they ate constantly. I loved seeing the possums carrying their young on their backs and the triangle shape the skunks would make with their young when walking.

The U.S. trapped, shot and almost eradicated wolves before realizing that they play such an important role in our ecosystem. Signed and confirmed. When travelling this great country it was always my fear that our senior rescue, Poppy, would get hold of some of this horrific poison. We heard and read so many reports of this happening. It just doesn’t distinguish between wild dogs, Dingoes and your pet. Some areas we even but a muzzle on her to prevent an incident.

I am so glad you have used your channel to educate people on this shocking poison that is banned almost worldwide. The smarter crop farmers have started using dingoes to keep kanagroos numbers down, the dingoes preferred meal.

We've sat outside parliament house in sydney years ago collecting signatures to ban 1080 and save alpine dingoes (endangered). No one gives a stuff! It's one of the most cruelest ways of dying, it takes 24 hours of constant electric shocks, then there's the secondary poisoning of other native animals. This poison has been banned in most countries in the world.

Thanks for this lovely video! Making ppl aware of how our only land apex predator is treated is so important. Its cruel & unnecessary. I have 4 year old dingo & also a 9 year old dingo cross. They are so loving & are just a real awesome animal. Theh just want love, they have so much to give. Peggy 'the dingo' has been a cjallenge since we got her as a rescue pup, but I love her so much. It's been banned in every other country except here and NZ. Twice every year baits are dropped by the millions for the autumn and spring aerial baiting programs run by LLS's and ground baiting by councils with government supplied 1080 poison which is injected into either fresh roo and horse meat as well as manufactured 1080 baits.
