Veteran Trains and Adopts Rescue Dogs | Farm Family Simple Life | Happy Dog Videos

In the spirit of Anzac Day yesterday, when thinking about the description of this video, I can't help but think, that a truly ordinary day like today's video, has a whole lot more meaning to this guy than what it might seem to most.
Let me explain. Here's a veteran who served for many years and returned a broken man suffering from PTSD amongst other things. He struggled to connect with people as a civilian. Didn't know what to do with his life to be honest. So he began working with dogs. He felt like he understood them and they him. Luke would say they even saved him. I would agree.
And so, when life seemed to offer a choice to take a path to help misplaced and misunderstood shelter dogs he took it.
He gave up a business he had built, to give back to some needy dogs that reminded him of himself and his own struggles fitting into society.
Well here he is today. An ordinary day.
A day, as always, completely devoted in every way to giving these dogs the best life he can possibly manage.
From sunrise, to way past sunset. Each and every day.
Whether it's building the Dingoes the most fandangle shelter he can imagine. Thinking of new ways to make them feel like they belong. Helping with their relationships. Taking the pack for multiple runs and swims. Feeding them the best food he can muster. Vacuuming the floor 10 times, loading the washing machine for 20th time, picking up the 40th poo. And telling them they're loved and beautiful.
Whatever they need to feel loved, understood and that they belong ... there's no limit to what he will do.
It gives him purpose and he's returning a favour. You saved mine, now allow me to save yours.
This pack is his platoon. And no one will ever get left behind.
To all those who have served, thank you for your service. To the families of those who have served, thank you also for your sacrifice. To the animals that stood beside our men and women and gave their lives in service. Lest we Forget.
And I'd like to acknowledge the battle that continues for our service men and women long past the battlefield. Long past their retirement. It really is a lifelong service. Hopefully all over the world, people are recognising this more and more and helping our soldiers when they need us most.
I would like to also take this moment to pass on an update from Dee and her shelter, where many of our dogs have come from. Sadly the outbreak of Parvo has worsened. Here is today's update from Dee ...

luke saying that the dogs saved him is definately true. in recent times a lot of you older videos pop up in my recommendations. the stories of freddo, roscoe, shadow, diesel (i hope he is doing good), rover, the two misses, tilly, chancey. in helping them they helped him. it was a cat that saved my live. after a car accident that left me paraplegic i was depressive, aggressive, suicidal (2 attempts). one day my partner who knows me so well and stood by my side brought home a cat that was run over by a car. no more use of her hindlegs. she needed help to go potty because she couldnt do it on her own anymore. but she didnt care. she loved live. nothing could slow her down. her love for live was so contageous. after three weeks i said: ok, i got the message. live can still be great - even in a chair. she passed last year but she will always be my hero. the hero that saved me and made me love live again.

Beautiful tribute video Sam. Seeing this new video, makes me think of the 1st video I remember watching about 4+ years ago. Luke on a paddle board out in the middle of the pond with your dogs and a few daycare pups. Sam behind the camera, silently catching every beautiful moment, and Luke, happy and enjoying every moment. There have been a lot of beautiful times , gut wrenching times, and so many hilarious moments since the 1st video I remember. If you are new to the channel or haven’t had a chance to look back at the early years of The Farm’s journey, it is well worth the time to check out the videos. Luke’s journey as a spec ops veteran acclimatizing back into a civilian society is poignant. As a Cattle dog tragic, Tilly has always been one of my favourites. That tiniest streak of unhinged in all of them is so endearing to me, now. However when my cattle dog was biting the wheels of the mower and lifting it off the ground while I was mowing and flying out the back door knocking our sliding screen door off it’s hinges and half way down the yard, it was slightly alarming to me. Now a good 20 years after the fact It’s just makes me smile to see any inkling of that in any of them.I’m so glad to see her feeling so well. I think she always do her job what ever she thinks that is but playing like a puppy like that is proof she must be feeling like a spring chick again. Go Till Till.

Luke and Sam, you are amazing people, your actions to save all your dogs are priceless. Luke's military background has given him the ability to go through hardships to save abandoned dogs. The war has been going on in Ukraine for three years now, and there are heroic people, volunteers, who are now rescuing animals from destroyed villages, right under bombing. I understand Sam exactly what you are saying here. My husband served with the U.S.Army in Vietnam and you describe the PTSD exactly even 50 years later. I also want to say to you , Sam, it takes a special lady to be the wife of some one that suffers from combat related PTSD. It's not an easy life for either one of you. I have watched you stand by Luke in life changing decisions through these challenging years like a trooper. Thank you, Luke, for your service to your country. My husband has told me many times what great soldiers the Aussies were in Vietnam. Be proud of who you are. Different wars but same concept.

The big show-off who loves sliding in puddles, getting rapturously excited at an exciting discovery poking out the ground, but never more at peace when he has chosen the lucky soul (out of all the great & small beasties that are in awe & devotedly besotted by their gorgeous hero) and spends the time big talking, wrestling and playing mouthy bite. Now who am i talking about? Big man & big dog. Both could choose to settle any argument or confusion with minimal but devastating effect but they were love-trained. Family-trained. Language tutored. Winning now means understanding all. Keeping the family safe. Speaking fluent toddler, deaf staffy, bonkers boxer, inquisitive young lady, chameleon boy/girl brother. And with the safety fall backdrop of a perfect mum who you know (YOU KNOW 100%) that will have your back if anyone misunderstands you (and will probably hold them in situ for hours to explain every which way exactly WHY they are misinformed [politely of course]) but turn feral (sorry Sam) if they insult her big boy. The most beautiful boys who have that charming way of winning over the ladies and were it not for their respective attitudes to food.....suspicious vs hell yeah!!! I would suspect a genetic relationship but nothing will convince me that they are, in fact, not soul twins. Love to all.

What a fantastic start to my morning! Thanks for this (and so many other) videos, Sam and Luke!Loveto you all from Oregon! WOW!! best thing ever!! seeing Til Til at the beginning playing like a puppy! #CancerSchmancer What a GREAT dog! I love her so! And about 3 minutes in it sure seems like Cruiser LOVES the love you give him, Sam! He's clearly GOT IT about the relationship between himself and his human mom and dad and Tina learns so fast from him! And at about 10 minutes in I have the same feeling that I had when we had our beautiful German Shep girl (heaven now) as I watch Cruiser chewing the blue dumbbell toy - - that feeling we had when we watched her chewing on her toys was: Wow! I'm sure glad she loves us!🤣🤣🤣 Now I'm not saying flat out that Cruiser loves you (though I do think he does!! wild or no wild) but seeing his pearly whites as he is chomping on his toy brought me back to that thought! Luke is so right as he says of Cruiser: 'What a beautiful boy!' I heartily agree! I also love seeing how the work in the dingo enclosure is coming along! You guys are wondermakers. And lastly, WHO is that ? A new pup I caught a glimpse of during the run? A visitor? Maybe like a German shorthair pointer mix or other hunting dog mix?? I don't always get to keep up - especially consecutively - did I miss something important? He was also at the very end at the lower left on the floor @ 15:49.. Anyhoo, blessings to all of the 2 and 4 legged there on The Farm!

That would be Ziggy, a former frequent daycare dog who stays at The Farm when his family goes on vacation. Ziggy has been able to slide right back into the Farm pack like Gus the Weimaraner does despite not living there regularly. I believe Ziggy is actually a Cattle Dog cross but others here might know better than I do.

Sam this is a lovely tribute to Luke. Thank you. I think so many of us can easily relate to the concept of our dogs or cats saving us from trauma. I know for a fact that I can. Perhaps this is why we choose to be such staunch supporters of Luke, of you Sam, and your pack of misfits ❤. Thanks for alerting us to Dee’s plight earlier this week. Looks like many of us here sent donations, which we hope will help her out in healing the dogs in her care. Parvovirus is a rough one.😢
