We stayed on the Queen Mary for our 10th anniversary back in 1990. It was a unique place to stay, the cabins were old and very thin walls. You could hear the people in the next cabin just as if they were sitting right next to you. But the buffet in the morning was amazing.

If you’re into cruising it seems a shame to miss staying on the Queen Mary. We did a Panama Canal transit from Long Beach last September. We did a transatlantic on the Queen Mary II a few years ago so we decided to make it a pair. It was an excellent experience with a couple of great restaurants and the best Art Deco bar with excellent entertainment. The cabins are mostly original which means the heating no longer works which usually isn’t an issue in Southern California. The ship of course wasn’t equipped with Air Conditioning when in transatlantic service so it’s been retrofitted with a system using the original cabin ventilation system so there is no individual temperature control. We happen to hit a cold snap and need heat. We could not turn off the AC. Our cabin was 62f. Other than that we were pleased with the experience. If you’re a guest of the hotel the tour is included. The ship is a 3 minute walk to Carnival’s terminal but all other lines are at the San Pedro terminal; about a $30 taxi ride.

When we sailed on Carnival Panorama, we got a hired car from the airport to the Queen Mary. A must stay if you have a desire for ocean liners. Just keep in mind that most cabins are still very unmodified 1930’s vintage. Really cool to experience a 90 year old first class cabin though. We thought getting around locally would be walkable. It might have been, but the way the entire area all the way to that Maya hotel gets fenced off for the continual events makes that nearly impossible. Parking, embarkation, disembarkation, and the dome cruise terminal were all a frustration. Unless we were specifically wanting to stay on the Queen Mary again, we wouldn’t sail from the Carnival terminal.

Nice, it doesn’t make sense that it can be both hard and so at the same time. Looking forward to the next ones. When we travel, we like to get a room tour before and after. Both first impressions and after that we’ve stayed in it for a day or two.

We stayed at the Queen Mary in our last Long Beach pre-cruise stay, exploring the ship was a neat experience and the rooms were actually pretty nice. They do charge $32 for parking but we took a cab from LAX for $76. We were sailing with Carnival though so it was much closer to their terminal than NCL. It was walkable but we still had a gentleman in a golf cart drive us around the Dark Harbor stuff to the terminal. Thanks for the food tips, will definitely think of those on our next Long Beach stay.

When you are staying on the ship, do you get to do Dark Harbor for free?
@PoorlydrawnchickenАй бұрын
Unfortunately, it is still an extra charge. They had some packages that included an overnight stay and tickets but we had already been booked by the time those came out. They’re very thorough about keeping the party and guest areas separate, though you can hear the screaming from the upper areas of the isolation ward.

My wife and I stayed over night on the Queen Mary years ago after a party. Very nice but it is haunted you know!😊

I was just looking at this hotel last night. We decided to stay in the Hyatt Regency for 15,000 points, which is about $300 in points vs $600 + taxes and fees.

Hey! Haven't seen your name here in the comments for a while! Welcome back. We walked all around the outside of the Hyatt. It seemed nice from the outside! Close to the marina with all the modern restaurants and stores. Are you cruising? What ship?

@@VeryunOfficialTravelGuides Hey! Don't always comment, but I watch many of your videos. We're cruising on Royal Princess in October, 7-night Mexican Riviera. This will be our first to the west coast of Mexico, and on Princess.

Good tips on the parking. In any resort area the fees for parking are nuts. I think the resort fee at the Westin is a bit tacky, considering what the "resort" looked like.

I don't remember where we stayed in Long Beach when we cruised out of there but it was a reasonable room, clean and decent, for about 2/3 the price of other hotels. It was also pretty walkable, even with my bum leg. And there are a lot of good restaurants all around that area, which is right next to where you were, so I'm not surprised you found great food. The parking is crazy there! I was so glad we didn't get a rental. We had just under 24 hours there before our cruise and we were trying to keep to a budget, which is actually the reason we took a cruise. $400 for the cruise meant it was essentially $50 a night each, including all meals. That was my intro to cruising.

Curious what your thoughts are on Mazatlan. Did not like it all. Loved, loved PV and Cabo. Happy cruising

We walked the blue line into the city and had a nice day. Walked all the way over to the beach, had some drinks, walked back into the town square and had some great food at a place called La Molcajateria, and then stumbled back to the ship. One thing to note: things open a little later. We were in town by like 9:30am and everything was closed. Some restaurants didn't open until 1pm.

@@VeryunOfficialTravelGuides Sounds like you had a great day. Our experience was let's say sketchy and very aggressive touchy merchants even on the beach 😖 This was way back in 2003 though 🥴 Stay safe

So the bed was soft to touch but when you sink into it then it feels hard like you went through the mattress? The food looked good to me - no idea what it was. 😊😊

Yes, I guess that's a good way to explain what the bed felt like!
