CRUISING our Beneteau through the TUAMOTU ARCHIPELAGO | Ep 89 | Sailing Merewether

This week we leave the pearl farm and sail to Garumaoa the sleepy little village on Raroia. Kieran declares his love for coconuts and I go on a mission to save our mates hat that had flown overboard. When the hat is rescued and I’m safely back on the boat the coral head watch continues. The little village on the atoll has no more then 100 citizen living there and only one little shop, this quickly kills our lunch plans as we were looking for a restaurant. The slack tide is approaching so we have to keep moving. We are sailing to our next atoll, Makemo (no we are not in Asia). Our depth meter plays a trick with us leaving us slightly panicked thinking we would hit ground... But not to worry. Merewether is still floating till this day!

I lost my hat while on a boat in Milford Sound NZ a couple of years ago blew off my head and sank immediately, if you get there have a look for it its a green baseball cap, as usual great video cheers from Oz and stay away for awhile as the lockdowns are still in place till mid October.

That point at either high or low tide where the water has stopped moving and before it turns in the other direction. This is only necessary to know on narrow channels where the tide is funneling in and out and creating a fast current.

Great question Bruce, as Rick has already pointed out “Slack tide” is when the water through a narrow pass stops moving. Generally doesn’t last long. Slack time is sometimes on the high or low but for our adventures through the atolls slack tide is more likely after high and low tide by sometimes even an hour or two after

Hey why we sail, that transponder doesn’t really ever do that. So it was scary when it happened. Now we know when there is lots of current around to keep an eye on that.

Not 100% sure what you mean but we have 2 fuel filters cleaning the fuel before it arrives into the engine
