What a nice smiley and enthusiastic person Zoe seems 😊 l thought how eager and adventurous she was when she came and stayed over nite for the party😊 a few vlogs ago. Her description of the wild life she saw while staying on Alba and the excitement in her voice, who needs tv when u have wild life on ur door step. l had a feeling b4 the end of the vlog that this lady was going to get a boat, gud on her for doing it👍. Yet again u two have changed direction and produced another excellent vlog. Thanks again Marina & Myles. Simon ❤️❤️xxx stay safe💜

Waving on the water is the same way over here in the states, living close to the coast in North Carolina, my family have always owned and worked on boats for generations. It's always been like that. I think that being on the water just changes people's who disposition! It's like they are happiest when on the water and just happy to see others on the water as well, no matter how big or small your boat is or how big or small their boat is, people for the most apart are happy and glad to see you and acknowledge you!

Boats are great if your a continuous cruiser, if your in a marina and have a 9-5 job at a fixed location it costs a fortune! With the mooring/license/insurance/maintenance/and fuel it ended up costing me nearly as much as renting a house... Perhaps I will try again when I am retired and can cruise full time 😊
@Widestone0013 жыл бұрын
That end was perfect! I won't spoil anything if you're not watching the video but reading the comments - yes, I mean you! Watch the video, it's worth your time. As for my plans, well, I'll get a narrowboat as well. It' won't be anytime soon though, as I'll first have to move from Switzerland to England, I'll first need to save the needed money for a narrowboat (a new one - the thought of buying a "used" boat is impossible to me personally) and have enough reserves that in the unlikely case it turns out to be a wrong decision I'll still have the money to change my life again on the fly. Saving 150'00 pounds is a titanic task, but my mind is set to it. If it works, yay, if it doesen't in the planned amount of time I'm 42 and can extend that time. So I'm coming.

Your friend Zoe sounds exactly how I imagine a child who had just found out they had won their own key to a chocolate factory and could help their self to whatever they wanted, would sound. As for everyone who lives on a narrowboat being so friendly I am taking a wild guess, but I think people who live on their boat full time are somehow different and living on their boat emphasises those differences. Over time those differences slowly change them as a person and they become more aware of nature and everything good they are surrounded by, instead of allowing irritating things to become more and more annoying the more they think about them.

I just recently discovered narrow boating via youtube and love what I am learning about that lifestyle. I am starting to wonder why J.R.R. Tolkien didn't place Hobbits on narrow boats instead of the Shire. I can completely see hobbits on them with small ponies working the tow lines. A 57 foot by 6 foot 10 inch boat would be huge for hobbits too. OK, so I have a very active imagination but that makes life fun.

Hi guys. A new subber here from Nz. Interesting how Zoe was talking about how friendly people are. Must be certain areas. Because back in 2008 when I first went to UK, a family member and I rented a Narrow boat, and cruised on Shropshire Union then onto Llangollen Canal up to the actual village. Being a typical kiwi, each day you'd find me saying gday, hullo, hi etc. Being friendly. But no response. Hopefully there's no class distinction between boat owners and renters. That wouldn't go down well with kiwis. And so it was very refreshing to hear from Zoe, how friendly people are on the Thames. Love your channel. Thanks for sharing your adventures. Take care and stay safe. Atb

Bryan Badger Hey Bryan! Zoë here! Ahh I haven’t been to the Shropshire Union, I hope to cruise there one day.I hadn’t actually considered a distinction between owners and renters. I think of everyone the same. Interesting point that I’ll watch out for!

Your friend sure didn’t wait long to get her own narrow boat but was that enough time to prepare her for the mold that all the moisture will cause and how to heat the boat?
@CruisingAlba3 жыл бұрын
Mold is not at all necessary if the boated is heated and ventilated well 😊 She is working on renovating her boat, so look out for the walk-through video of Marigold some time in Spring

Having a short break is one thing, living the life is another. And how do composting toilets work. Surely the toilet has to be emptied. And you have to be a vegetarian. The way you normally compost is you store in a bin and leave for about a year, mixing from time to time. How does a composting toilet differ...interested
@AndreasDuessca3 жыл бұрын
I did it for a couple years and loved every minute of it - even the challenging moments. A composting toilet doesn’t really compost, they should be called desiccating toilets but they work amazingly well. Right now with three kids in Canada living on a boat is not a viable option, but during the summer I still sail as many times as I can.

That’s fab Steve! If you’ve been thinking about it already and my comments have made it appeal more then the canal and rivers are calling you! I’m 2 weeks in and no regrets. On my first solo cruise to get into location for lockdown I saw a heron, swans, beautiful hills and woods and a kingfisher bird with a really bright turquoise tail. I love having a cup of tea and watching the birds through the side hatch. All the best with your boat buying pondering!

For beautiful women living alone on a narrowboat, there are young guys that get high and drunk and hit the tow paths looking for mischief and lacking good judgment when intoxicated, a single beautiful woman needs to be cautious... there are sharks on land as their are in the water too!
@borderreiver32883 жыл бұрын
most people on the canals are friendly but you do get the odd miserable grumpy sod....
