Regarding the extension cord issue: for people with cpap machines, the issue is pretty difficult, I have not been on a cruise ship with an outlet by the beds. But I have been able to arrange for the cruise ship to provide me one.
@susanhlavaty9500 Жыл бұрын
We have the same problem. The last time we asked for an extension cord, they brought two and connected them to get them to the cpap machine. They didn't work, and they couldn't find ones that did. We now bring an extension cord and keep it in with the machine. We haven't had a problem since.

@lesliefranklin1870 Жыл бұрын
If you use a CPAP machine, often you will need to use an extension cord to reach the bed from the outlet. If you bring your own, make sure it's compliant with the cruise line or borrow one from the ship. Let them know beforehand and also order some distilled water for your CPAP humidifier, if you use one.

As I wrote earlier, the cruise line will provide adequate extension cords for medical devices, as needed. FYI, most cruise ship cabin stewards will immediately disconnect any non-ship-provided cords and then call engineering. An engineering staff member (or sometimes security) will remove the cord and offer you one of theirs.
@ikefscout Жыл бұрын
My wife and I both use CPAP machines. You think finding 1 outlet is bad, try finding 2 by the bed. We bought 2 extensions cords to use on board. However, we went to the cruise website to see what kinds were acceptable to use. Our cruise line allows cords as long as they do not have internal surge protection.
@lesliefranklin1870 Жыл бұрын
@@captainjohn49 I brought my own UL certified cord I bought from a reputable source. No surge suppression. I put it away every morning. I heard that sometimes the cord the ship supplies is sometimes much more substantial than needed and it can get in the way. My CPAP uses 6 amps maximum. (You can check the rating on the power brick.) So, even the most basic 13-amp extension cord is sufficient.

I was a nanny and I went to Aspen with the mother and son. She brought along her hairdresser. I was appalled in how slovenly they both were. Cigarette wrappers tossed on the floor. A couple times either in bathroom or tiled kitchen I found cigarette butts smashed on the floor. There were plenty of ash trays even on the bathroom counters. Her took over the 2nd bath that her son and I were used. Any case towels heaped on the floor because they took 2 showers a day at least. They would buy anything from furs, jewelry, perfume, apres ski wear, etc.boxes bags everywhere and more. I tried to tidy up before housekeeping came in. She and her friend were planning a cruise. Housekeeping would find her as a slob. Luckily they weren’t planning on taking me. The father of boy called me to find out what made me upset. I said being Aspen for 10 Days was great. I rarely did have any time off except the 1 hour and there. I liked her behavior. I said I about ready to quit. He sent generous New Year’s gift with please stay. The kid like me a lot. Never missed his mom when she was gone all day. 2 months later she decide to change my payment which was weekly to a new salary paid monthly plus I would be doing all housekeeping. She had fired the housekeeper. Small fortune was dropped in Aspen and ex husband paid for everything furs,jewelry. No respect. As of Jan 1 she was going on a monthly amount from her X. She wanted to keep shopping every day Beverly Hills. Bands continued on returning to LA. You right people can be such pigs. We always tried to make sure we weren’t causing housekeeping extra work.

A couple of dumb hints--remember to remove the "do not disturb" if you have ordered room service, etc. Most lines will not knock, no matter what, if that sign or light is on. Your air conditioning will not work on some lines unless your balcony door is not only closed, but also locked. And remember that, depending on the design of the ship and your cabin, people on other decks may be able to see what's happening on your cabin. Many ships do not have ANY outlets in the bathrooms--you'll need to bring a rechargeable shaver, water pik, electric toothbrush, etc. and will do your hair at the mirror on the desk where there is an outlet.

I can't see where a single outlet extension cord of reasonable length (say 6 feet) would change the voltage, or cause a voltage drop or noticably increase resistance. I think the problem comes when you have a power bar or multi-outlet extension, where the increased current draw could conceivably cause a problem. Ships need to post potential problems with this near their outlets. I think anyone conversant with electricity would know that a single outlet extension cord would cause no overcharge or current drop or backfeed on the line; in which case it also needs to be stated somewhere in the cabin that using an extension for a CPAP machine or a single medical device of standard current draw would be permissible.
@dmitripogosian5084 Жыл бұрын
Theoretically, extension cord may be too thin to handle the current that your device will try to draw, especially if you bought a cord in a country with 220V, and stick it into 110 V outlet.

Extension cords do not 'ruin' anything. Yes, they can trip out a breaker, but that's resettable. How do you propose a CPAP user plugs in his machine?
@captainjohn49 Жыл бұрын
Frank, the cruise line can provide you with adequate / proper cordage for a medical device. If you haven't worked on-board a ship (particularly an older one) you may not be aware of the variations in voltages that can occur, and if there is a low-voltage situation, you could have excess current draw ---- causing overheating of wiring/plugs, etc. ---- which is a fire hazard! (this is also why irons, steamers, etc. are provided upon request, but otherwise not allowed.....trust me, fire on a ship is the #1 cause of injury/death and is to be avoided at all costs!) Also, most cabin hosts will immediately disconnect any extension cords in your cabin, and security or engineering office would come down and remove them (probably with a stern warning)....so, this is a big No-No! Hope this helps?
