Crumb quilting can be addictive but you have to have some ideas on what you're going to do with the crumb fabric once it's made so I hope that the crumb quilt project ideas in this video give you some ideas on what to do with that "new" crumb fabric.

I would like to see you actually make the stickblock.

I did that in a previous video and the link is in the Description below this video. You can find it at kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqKxdmCgfZd8g7c

I’m making a rainbow crumb quilt. 12 inch blocks, 8 per row, 8 per column and 8 per colour. All layer on the diagonal, quilt as you go, with sashing and binding. Loved your tutorial.

Grazie e buon lavoro !!

Yeah. I tried doing some crumb quilting and hated it! That was definitely not for me. Of course it could have been the old ugly fabric I was using but I just didn't enjoy trying to sew all those tiny pieces together. LOL I don't mind saving the larger pieces for later use if I need a certain color, but not the small pieces.

It's totally one of those "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" things, isn't it? I'm trying to just let go and "embrace the fugly," and am finding that once the fabric has been trimmed into blocks the whole thing comes together.

These are great ideas, and thank you. I just cut my first fat quarter...there are a lot of crumbs, but I did manage to get 12 4.5" squares. This is going to be a simple disappearing 9 patch in a Christmas lapgan for my brother. First mistake: learn to read the ruler, lol! Quilt rulers are really different from any ruler I have ever used in dressmaking. Second mistake: roller cutters take skill that I do not have yet. Solution to that: draft 4.5" squares with a pencil on the fat quarter and cut with shears. I think this will help me envision how many cuts I can get, etc. I hope this makes sense. Is there such a thing as a rotary cutter with a "training wheel" sort of like an outrigger on a canoe? I have serious problems with my back, and although I have a real cutting table, I am over 6' tall, and I could barely get that fat quarter cut before I just had to quit. I was having problems putting enough pressure on both the ruler and the cutter. Is there something I can get that could help?

The easiest way to cut that I've found where you don't have to put as much pressure on the cutter is the Martelli cutting system. I like using their rulers because they don't slip like acrylic ones can and their cutter is ergonomic. To see their products, go to bit.ly/martellicode #affiliatecode

I have a 3lb hand weight, the dumbbell kind you use for exercise. I place it on my quilting ruler at the top edge the farthest point from me, and that extra weight helps keep the ruler stationary as I cut

I’m not really experienced at this. So you have the edges of the sticks folded under and then you sew them on, right?
@Chatterboxquilts4 жыл бұрын
You will place the stick right sides together with one half of the background fabric (after it's been cut in half) and sew them together with a ¼" seam. You then repeat to attach the remaining half of the background fabric. Hope that answers your question.
