If Saki hadn’t intervened, it would’ve been Reiko’s daughter and that other biker girl doing the chicken run which would’ve led to either one or both of them dying. Even if nobody got killed, Maria had already lost respect for her mom after watching her beg before the enemy gang. By taking Maria’s place in the race Saki made those girls see how close they came to death and scared from any future chicken runs. taking a punch from Reiko and letting her call out basically recertified Reiko as a badass in Maria’s eyes and helped Reiko regain her daughter’s respect plus helping her regain some closure from witnessing her death

I think Saki was always fully aware of how she owned Reiko some closure after dying like that. And Saki didn’t just gave Reiko the closure that she definitely needed but also helped her to repair her relationship with her daughter in the process. Saki really is a good friend

1 An explosion of that magnitude wouldn't incinerate a human body, even if you let the flame burn till they went out, you'd still find charred remains rather than ashes. 2 it should have definitely damaged her makeup if she was in it. 3 seeing as her make up is fine and her clothes have dirt in it rather than burn marks, it's safe to assume that she jumped off before the bike actually exploded, relying on her zombie physic to survive the tumble on the ground.

If you notice a certain piece, yeah she did jump off the bike sooner, landing in the farther back grass rather than staying on the bike! It's a really cool detail they added ^~^

I loved this arc!!! We got to see more of Saki (my fav character's) backstory! We also get to see Saki find herself a bit more closure for the people she left behind and help her best friend Reiko not only find her own closure to the trauma she faced with Saki's death, but also helping her repair her relationship with her daughter.....Its one of the reasons why I love Saki so much! She does things in her own way but she always makes it work out for everyone around her!
