Thing is, I actually am not convinced. Her "hatred" is laced with something too akin to... hurt. I wonder how close she and Satella were before Envy killed her. Or what happened between Echidna and Emilia's mom. Or if Emilia is related to her in some way. Echidna rarely shows much emotional range due to her Authority, but she does have strong feelings, positive or negative, regarding the other witches. I'm betting it has something to do with Satella and whatever happened 400 years ago that wiped most of them out.

So LN readers pls don't spoil but I had a thought; the first trial is looking into the past, second is an unthinkable present, third is presumably the future, Emillia has only done the first trial while Subaru did the second and saw worlds after he died. What if Emillia did the second trial and saw the things that happened to Subaru? That would surely be heartbreaking to her to see someone she loves be hurt so badly. Edit: (spoilers for the newest episode) So I was wrong about that and as an Emillia fan I am happy she didn't have to suffer seeing that but also if they did that it would be such a powerful and emotional scene but the scene we got was also super powerful and emotional just positive and I am very happy now!

Echidna could tell her without Envy's involvement, but I doubt Echidna is interested in divulging that information, especially to her. Though I do think the beans will be spilled by someone. There are multiple characters that know about his Return by Death. We know at least Echidna, Roswaal, and the other witches are aware. As the expression goes, two can keep a secret if one is dead. My bet is the first one to figure it out eventually will be Betty.
