We've met this guy before. He was an official in the Night Watch on B5. (And the actor also portrayed Neroon.) "I'm glad to see we're adding new members to the Night Watch. Even though I don't recall seeing any recent reports from you, Mister Allen... have you nothing to report?" -- Mr. Wells, B5:S2ep22

The thing I really like about this episode is the exploration of red-shirt deaths. Too often other shows, particularly Star Trek, treat red-shirt deaths so flippantly. This show dared to treat them as human beings with just as much intrinsic value as the main cast. That, combined with Max's wrestling with questions of whether his life was worth the trade make this one a nice emotional experience for me.

A point worth knowing, the first 8 episodes were never intended by JMS, he said the Network executives felt that his intended start to the series was too unconventional and they insisted on him adding those first 8 episodes before his actual start to the series - at a convention he stated that he was "ok" with most of what was added but he would never have written "War Zone", the movie "A Call to Arms" was supposed to be the pilot and it was supposed to be followed by "Racing the Night". He put up with adding the 8 episodes thinking it was a small price to pay to get the show going ... except then they decided after episode 13 that they needed to boost the ratings by adding several more beautiful scantily clad female characters because, and this is exactly what they told him, the best rated show was Baywatch and they wanted to make it a bit more like "Baywatch to the stars" - he said he wouldn't do it, they said the contract gave him no choice, he said it gave him ONE choice, which was to terminate the show because he still had exclusive rights to the story and his contract didn't specify how many episodes he had to make. They thought he was bluffing but JMS don't play! Of course, the network came up with its own explanation to why the show was cancelled, but it was ended by JMS and that was the reason. I think you can find both the "official" reason AND the real reason online.

JMS goes into more detail in his autobiography; TNT wanted viewers of Crusade to stick around and what the rest of their programming (which had pivoted to wrestling and reality tv) and vice versa. That obviously didn't happen as there's not much of a Venn diagram there! After that, they tried everything to bail out of funding the show any further; commissioning dubious market research and ultimately sending increasingly unreasonable notes which culminated in a demand to sexualise the Dureena character and then have her assaulted by a crewmember, which was the final straw for JMS.

That was an inside joke but not about Neroon. Welles worked for Nightwatch under Clarke and yet he managed to successfully weather that storm and stay employed by Earthgov with a new job title and pushing a kinder, gentler form of propaganda.

The uniforms bit was to cover up the fact that the episodes were shot out of order. The first several episodes were shot with the grey/red unis, then production stopped for a short while, and then they switched to the darker uniforms. Some of those episodes were aired BEFORE the red/grey uni eps, so this was the "explanation" for the change.

Galen is off doing other things, which is made clear in some of the novels.

I know you’re not getting many views on this show but having watched your B5 journey I’d love to see what you thought of the rest of Crusade and the other B5 follow ups…

They will eventually be posted. If you go to my community tab on YT I think I still have one free month pass to patreon left. Grab it and watch away. lol

I still react to it but it dropped from 4 episodes a month to two a month due to the Patron sponsoring it no longer dong so. I have no issues with users waiting until I finish a show or get a season or two ahead and then drop 5 bucks to binge them all in a month and then cancel. They will eventually also make it to YT for free but time is the real enemy.
