@nikolai bahtin Well when the Christians started their "crusade" they liberated a large part of it, the Ottomans couldn't really administrate it and thus it's made independent (and also to just purely add to the game, balance and things like that, not fully historical but not wrong either imo)

Murad retired because the Ottomans and the crusaders had a truce after the 1st war, he retired because he thought his borders were secured. After hearing that Murad retired, Polish & Hungarian king Wladyslav broke the truce and began a new offensive. It is said that, after the battle Murad ordered his men to behead Wladyslav's corpse and put his head onto a pike and stick it to the Ottoman-Hungarian border alongside the previous peace treaty; implying that this would be the end if they dishonor their previous agreements.

Murat was superior commander. Like historican Hummer says prove that “The first ten Ottoman Sultans were genius. He is right. The video did not mentioned that When Murat heard chrisrians coming he was in anatolia and fighting with Karamans. He quickly moved to Balkan but He got a problem;he did not have any ship to cross bosphorus. He dealt with Genoveses he pay to Genove 1 gold for 1 his soldier to cross europian side and He paid 40k gold for this. To sum up Nicopolis and Varna battles were crucial important in the Ottoman history. They were not simple battles though they were survival of the Ottoman existence.

sultans killing their children created the problem. They shouldnt interfere. Selim I overthrow his own dad by force and out of similar fear Suleiman killed 2 of his sons and left the empire to II. Selim never fit to rule in any way. Eventually after Suleiman, Sokollu Mehmet Pasa (a serbian devshirme named Bajica) ruled the empire. He was a great statemen, he conquered Cyprus and he never forgot his Serbian roots just like many other devshirme statemen. At school, after sultan suleiman's chapter we move on chapter of Sokollu Mehmet Pasa era. Books don't even mention the name of the sultan more than once.

@@Knowledgia it would be great. we usually tend to ignore it but the length of the cartaginian army's retreat in cannae, or of seljuks in manzikert was huge. cartaginians covered a good deal of distance, to lure the romans to their trap. after driving roman cavalry away, their cavalry had to rest before joining the hannibal to encircle the roman legions. byzantines and turks started with roughly 4 kilometres apart from each other, and turks kept retreating the whole day until evening. it also means that those infantrymen following horse archers are really badass strongmen. not to mention they fought along the way. without having a sense of distances, one can never have a better sense of a battle. keep up the good work, and we are awaiting!

I'm from Varna. Every year on November 10, we pay tribute to him and his warriors. These days the city has grown and the battlefield has become a residential neighborhood of Varna. It is called Vladislavovo. I recommend those who come to Varna to visit the Park-Museum of Military Friendship-1444. The battle is presented in great detail and exhibits of the battle are on display. We honor King Vladislav III and posthumously call him "Varnenchik" or translated, it means Vladislav III of Varna

Mehmed II seemed pretty intelligent. That was pretty compelling: "If you're the sultan, come lead your armies. If I am the sultan, I command you to come lead my armies..." What was the story with the cannon maker who built the cannons that took down the Theodosian walls? Something like he offered his services to the Hungarians (or he _was_ a Hungarian) and they turned him down but Mehmed II accepted. I wonder how different history would have been if someone else would have hired the cannon maker... And it's crazy how many stories there are like this in history - an older, experienced commander gives an order that, if followed, would almost definitely lead to a victory but a younger, inexperienced commander - often in a higher position of power like a king or prince - with a hot head and wanting glory for themselves, defy the order, fall into a position or trap that the older commander expected and that leads to a major loss and often the entire army being wiped out. It's like, even if you significantly outrank them, if they have vastly more experience than you, you might want to listen to them. Like how lieutenants fresh out of college will often listen to the advice of sergeants who have worked their way up even though they outrank them. Pretty common-sensical.

John Hunyadi (Romanian Ioan de Hunedoara ) Hunyadi adopted the Hussite method of using wagons for military purposes. He employed professional soldiers, but also mobilized local peasantry against invaders. These innovations contributed to his earliest successes against the Ottoman troops who were plundering the southern marches in the early 1440s. Although defeated in the battle of Varna in 1444 and in the second battle of Kosovo in 1448, his successful "Long Campaign" across the Balkan Mountains in 1443-44 and defence of Belgrade (Nándorfehérvár) in 1456, against troops led personally by the Sultan established his reputation as a great general. (Wikipedia) Didn't know he fought in the Battle of Varna, 'cause they don't teach proper history in school. Too bad , if they just listen to him. Great video.

When it comes to Southeastern Europe, the majority of internet "historians" are traditionally fixated on the East Roman Empire, and ignore the fact that the said Empire hasn't boasted a dominant role in SE Europe from the 1200s and onward, the state that did, in fact, boasts the dominant role was the Medieval Serb state, whether in the form of the Serbian Empire, Lazar's Serbia and the Serbian Despotate, the said state was the preeminent enemy of the Ottoman Empire in SE Europe and the preeminent bulwark against the Ottoman Empire with the largest flatland fortress in Europe, waging war against the Ottomans for more or less 100-140 years, depending on whether one identifies Zeta as the final iteration of the Medieval Serb State. Considering the massive territory liberated in the first year of the Varna Crusade, it is more than apparent that the Serb and Hungarian, not Polish leadership were instrumental in the matter, and both, due to generation-spanning experience in waging war against the Ottomans, understood that after these triumphs and the events in Anatolia (invasion of the Ottoman Empire by either the Karamanids or the Aydinids), the Ottomans were in a dire position, and could not retake lost territories, and would agree to all terms of negotiation, and they did at Szeged, but Polish, East Roman and the Vatican geopolitical aspiration triumphed over reason, and they pushed for the furthering of the Varna Crusade (thus turning triumph into defeat), instead of consolidating their positions against the Ottomans, as Hunyadi and Brankovic had advised. Furthermore, Branković had a much larger interest in the peace treaty and solicited Hunyadi's support. He demanded that Serbia be returned to him, and he bribed Hunyadi by promising him the land he held in Hungary. On July 3, 1444, the lordship of Világosvár was transferred, in perpetuity, to Hunyadi. Around the same time, as additional security, the estates of Mukačevo, Baia Mare, Satu Mare, Debrecen, and Böszörmény were also transferred, and Hunyadi became the largest landowner in the Kingdom. There is another reason for this, Brankovic understood that a Hungary dominated by Hunyadi and his progeny would be a vital asset and ally to the Serb state, and to Hungary itself. He was proven right, the rule of Corvinus speaks volumes on the matter.
