As a Crusader fan, I'm genuinely disappointed by this ugly little ship. It seems like more of a hassle to use as well, especially if trying to load cargo given how low the turd sits.

I also don't care too much about the small gun other than how funny it looks. It definitely seems like a starter cargo ship. Went from me buying it to an easy skip, sadly. Was hoping it wouldn't be so fat but uh well. Every manufactuerer needs their ugly ships.

Yeah, I immediately thought my Aurora or Cutter would tear this ship to pieces. It's not only underpowered it fragile. 1 S2 missile hit cleaved off its wing and thrusters on that side making it hard to control and had to run. Even my Aurora upgraded can grind me to HRTs. This ship can barely do VLRTs.

I think they're deliberately keeping the size of the gun down because this is supposed to be a starter ship. Though at a minimum they should have allowed this to be a size four since most other ships in the game that are considered starters can put size 2s on their hard points and they usually have 2 or more. They could have also gave it 2 additional missiles For a total of 4 instead of 2. Because let's face it I've never had a missile land on a target yet.....

The roomy interior makes me think it'll be a great exploring/touring ship for the price, although I was really hoping for a Nomad competitor with similar cargo/weapons. Design wise it doesn't jive with me; I think it's a little too asymmetrical. If the cockpit wasn't so far forward and the gun and cockpit didn't have such a gap between them I would like it more.

It's weaponry is on par with the mustang but far worse than an avenger. It's cargo is on par with the avenger. It's cross section is about the size of a nomad. It seems like it needs a buff somewhere. It's best attribute is on par with the Avenger(cargo). It doesn't have many components, it has a large cross section, and minimal weaponry. I can't really see a reason to get this over another starter, despite the fact that I've been looking forward to it.

1xs3 is not on par with Mustangs 2xS1 and 2xS2. Cargo is not on par with Avenger since it cant carry vehicles. It has all the issues of a 300 series but is otherwise worse in literally every way.

I really wish it had a single size 4 gun. That would have helped it out. It is big for its class so will take more hits. Having a little more fire power would have allowed it to take down vlrt much faster. This ship will be great for off gr8d cargo. I besy you can get 20 to 25 scu on it all total.

Gorgeous little ship, excellent use of interior space, plenty of storage and aesthetics and quality of build just gets better, cant wait to see how this little beat will be rebalanced, rebalancing is life, and the Corsair/Redeemer are better ships for it. Would expect the paints to only improve the overall aesthetics. Equally, and not forgetting the ''Medical Terrapin'' i'll get one of those to complete my set, another toy to play with. Its all about indulgence, who needs OCD stats, the game is played for fun, not humdrum. Kudos

Reckon CIG could place the Intrepid as a premium beginner starter, around the price of the Cutter. It would appeal to new players a lot more than the dated Aurora/Mustang, and if they released a Warbond CCU, a lot of players with those starter ships would just upgrade.

ok it could be really good with 2 minor changes; Either a much bigger capacitor for the s3 gun or a s5 gun with the current capacitor. Shield the cargo. It's fully enclosed so make it shielded and all of a sudden you have a starter smuggler ship

When I saw the early info about Intrepid I thought: If they give it a size 5 gun it might be a decent Titan competitor, but it will probably be only size 4... Size 3 then... I feel mightier in my Cutter than ever before. :D The bright (and IMO the more imortant) side: It seems CIG was again able to avoid power creep with new starter ships. Now they should apply it to new specialized ships as well and we will have decently balanced game.

I like the interior, could of used a moonroof in the habitation area though and less doors. I don't understand why so many doors in a solo ship, besides Crusader. I can't see this being over $60. If its over $60 standalone its a hard pass for me. To me this should fall in the real starter range, maybe $45-50ish. The 315P just outclasses it and has a nice (and customizable) interior, 12 SCU cargo, a tractor beam in the front and 2 size 3 guns on the wings. Plus higher number of components (2 size 1 shield and coolers vs 1 each on intrepid). There is no way I'd pick this ship over a 315P if its close to the same price, or more. 315P is $65 standalone right now.. I think its my 1st ship iirc, still love it and use it all the time.

Looking at it from a gameplay perspective, it definitely fits into an explorer/small cargo hauler role quite well especially if the ship is faster than other starters. The comparison of this ship against an avenger titan is relatively justified if we *only* look at Stat vs Stat. But i feel like that's extremely unfair, as intrepid is ALSO perfect as a solo mobile base because of the complete personal hab: Bed, shower, storage, massive armory. Avenger titan is definitely more of the space fighter that was retrofitted to be a small cargo hauler, but it sucks as a mobile base. There's practically nothing amenities-wise that would help you stay out in the verse without the need to stop by some rest stop. Definitely gonna pick this ship up cause it fits more of my playstyle!

It's not meant to be a combat ship and that's fine, they need less concentration on those anyway. The issue is that in terms of a courier ship, which this seems to be, you already have the 315P, 350R, and Avenger Titan that all exceed the Intrepid in some combination of carrying capacity, speed, or combat capability. Even if this carries more fuel (which I need to check the 315p again), it's limited to max 2 SCU crates, travels slower, and has less defensive firepower than... literally any other ship in the game? Note: Ughhh, just checked and they nerfed the hell out of the 315p fuel capacity, because of course.

After some testing in PTU, I would definitely not recommend an intrepid for ultra-light cargo hauling in it's current state. On-grid cargo is more annoying to load than it's starter competitors, and off grid cargo is super awkward due to a number of specific internal design decisions that slow down loading/unloading the process tremendously. The internals of the ship are also pretty glitchy right now in terms of boundaries and collisions, so any movement of boxes inside the ship risks them clipping through the hull into space (or the floor of your hangar). 8 SCU is also a bit too small for a number of the lowest rep hauling level contracts, which require 9 SCU minimum of haul space. I would argue that at present, the best use case of the intrepid is a space uber, like a big Pisces with more room for passengers.

I am really considering melting my MSR for a Zeus, so this seems like a fun little upgrade to my Cutter for box delivery missions while still keeping a nice Crusader ship. I don't really care too much about the firepower, I would just get a fighter if I am doing a combat mission.

If the cockpit and gun were situated at the same length, with an aerodynamic fender inbetween them, as well as a single size 5 gun, this would be an attractive alternative the Titan. Alas, the Titan iss till the best starter ship.

Very nice, @loudguns! I fancy the design a lot. Even the view from the top. The gold standard treatment is so nice but even then it'll wanna be cheap compared to the Avenger which is stronger, faster, more flexible cargo grid and space for bigger vehicles and well over double the weapon potency. I'm keen to find out what advantage (if any) is given to yaw rates with the vtol thrusters in the horizontal (retracted?) position. I wonder if they give a big boost.

I don't really like the split storage solution. It's already an asymmetrical ship so why put the engineering in the center with matching drop downs on either side? I would have just combined them together and put the engineering panel on one side or the other. It also seems rather large for one size 1 shield (Is this correct?). Definitely not a combat ship if this is correct. I guess this is true of the C1 also though, trading out combat for speed and other perks. I'm kind of assuming this wouldn't cost more than a 315p which is $65 but more than the Cutter's $45 price. I'm guessing it might come out right at that $60 mark matching the Titan exactly.

I love this ship. My wife loves this ship. It IS kind of “two headed monster” kind of ugly, but it’s just interesting and different. If it didn’t look kind of odd it would just be a 300i. But I can’t say it enough, they need to upsize that gun by 1 or 2 before releasing. Size 5 is best, but size 4 will do.

The concept art showed a much larger gun. They downsized it without balancing the ship around the smaller armament. And I mean that in terms of gameplay as much as the visuals. I could look past that if it had some kind of strength in terms of components but it doesnt. Nor in cargo capacity. It has good speed but so does the avenger. I dont think a suit locker and weapon rack make up for its shortcomings unless its a $40 or $45 ship

Like most of CIG's ships this one has me liking it and hating it at the same time. My biggest issue is the limited cargo and it's not necessarily the 8 SCU limit. It can obviously carry a Mirai Pulse in each hold and should be able to take the Ranger series of bikes but according to the current published width and height of 2 meters the Rangers are to wide and tall but those dimensions are clearly inaccurate based on the scale of the pictured vehicle. It would have made for sense to have the back part of the ship where the cargo hold are retract to give better access to the cargo holds and as far as interior height goes it looks like they could have easily doubled the cargo carrying capacity by going two boxes in height. So if you take a pulse along you are down to 4 SCU which is equal to the base Cutter but at least with the cutter you have more room for additional boxes and or ground transportation if you want. I like the Intrepid overall but this one is a no go for my fleet.

Stat-wise, the Intrepid is a $40-45 starter ship. It has an amazingly well-designed interior... and that's it. Stat-wise, it's lacklustre. Component-wise, it's barely comparable to an Aurora. Weapon wise, it's not comparable to anything except the C8R Pisces until weapon size matters for armour penetration. And it is just fucking ugly. It doesn't look like a Crusder ship. It looks like someone imported a shitty model from some 90's Wing Commander knockoff into blender and applied Ares textures to parts of it. There are _some_ Crusader ships that have _some_ hull asymmetry, the Ares and the Mercury. That's it. And _all_ Crusader ships have their engines and cockpits aligned with the ship's centre line. A the moment, I have one of every Crusader ship line. Including the Genesis. Once the Intrepid launches... it'll be a hard pass from me.

Awesome video. And i hate being a negative andy. But good GRIEF the Intrepid looks derpy and stupid. I get the asymmetry, it works for the Ares which looks awesome. But this just looks beyond stupid. Why is there such an enormous gap between cockpit and gun? If the cockpit was centered they could have copy pasted the gun to the other side as well... Twice the dps for no loss. Powerplant too weak? Then make them ballistic guns. The current design makes NO sense. And its not even rule of cool, because it looks the opposite of cool. Asymmetry is cool and striking when it makes sense and has a purpose. Like the Ares with its huge gun without becoming too tall (if it was mounted above of below cockpit) to still fit in carrier hangars, or the Caterpillar due to it being a detachable escape craft. But this is just asymmetry for asymmetrys sake. Which is stupid and shallow. The Intrepid could have been 30% less wide if the gap between cockpit and gun was removed. And you know why they didnt do that right? Why they opted for a more stupid design? To avoid having it look too similar to the Ares. Why, just why.

It has a fuel tank thats smaller than a Cutter Rambler so its not a good starter exploration ship, its 1 size 3 gun makes it rubbish for combat so not a good starter for combat missions, its cargo is nice but the titan offers that and more so yeah Titan is still king for all rounder in that price point... Its a shame the Intepid feels like it was meant to have its own custom gun like an ION something like a size 4 version of the ions gun.

I am starting to feel that they have made too many compromises and have shoe-horned what they do have to fit a specific size and style. The exterior for me is boxy and cartoonisly cut/shaped in sections. I am sure a part of the issue is that we have come to expect to much from Montreal (wonder if this was NOT built in Montreal??). I have so many Crusader ships in my hangar... but not this one - not for me. just my pence

This ship kinda sucks. If it had either more hull hp or a second shield, a s4 gun, and the cockpit in the center like the ion then it would be decent. Its just so lacking in every category compared to other starters

Cutlass black doesn't even have a toilet. The new ships make the old ones just look shit. Even the Starrunner looks dated as fuck. Ramp only access to a smuggler ship just sucks.

CIG's standard is so much higher than this... this is not a well thought through or a well finished ship. Forget the asymmetry or Crusader's design language, the Intrepid feels like it comes from a lesser game, from a prior generation. How CIG let this one slip through the net, I have no idea. Someone messed up with this one. Very disappointing considering recent ships and the standard and quality we've come to know from Star Citizen. Both the Arurora and Mustang are better ships, Intrepid better NOT be more thean $45. I could not recommend this to anyone, it's not even a worthy ship for an NPC.

Really not a fan of the asymmetric look and the interior is like they asked what people would like but arranged in the weirdest way possible. I do like the cargo pods but it feels like it doesnt hold all that much, they probably could have safely doubled the cargo. Also, with the way they designed the ship, thay size 3 gun looks way too small, should be at least a size 4. I have a feeling they will still try to charger $80 US for this ship, in the same category as the Raileen and Nomad. Though I think the Nomad is probably still superior, but no one has really said what (or if) the Nomad does anything better than the other starters, like range or speed.

@@MidKnight2142 I’m currently nearly done on a cargo hauling guide and honestly it’s changed my view almost entirely on the nomad. You can make really good money in that thing at level 4 (250-300K or so an hour). It’s that next level of cargo capacity that really sets it apart.

@LoudGuns Agreed, and even if you want to stuff a ROC in the back, you can. Unless that's changed lol. Also I too keep a Pisces around for short hops. However the reason I have a Pisces is because you can call it from ground terminals. So if I somehow get stranded I can just get it from almost anywhere...again unless they changed that lol.

I am a Crusader fanboy but that might be fading away to RSI. I am sorry but man this thing is just too ugly for me. We should leave asymmetrical ships to Drake. I can't even stand to look at it from the top. I don't own a Aries or Ion and won't be buying this thing ever. Not even with in game money. I think I might just get a crime stat every time I run into one of these. My new game loop. Hunt ugly ships lol.

Even new players, its useless, cant make any money or progress really, NO point in them when its probably gonna be piss easy to upgrade to a, lets say cutlass or c1 or even bigger.

Making credits is going to become increasingly more difficult, and ship prices are going to keep going up. My guess is that CIG is aiming for several weeks of grinding for your first upgrade past starter by the time they get to some sort of release candidate stage.
