Valdemar may have been the best fighter (highest prowess in the world) as I think you gain +2 prowess when you are assigned as a marshal, a stat he may have lost when he died, so it is my belief the he was the greatest man in the world. I hope this makes it into a potential things Jon got wrong

To be fair the game is quite good at that itself, I can say that with confidence because my (pretty normal) scandinavian empire is currently allied with the Italian culture, norse religion kingdom of Valencia who somehow own half of England and the city of Rome, while all of Francia has converted so some fringe christian sub-religion and literally blown up into 10.000 individual counties.

It is incredibly entertaining to follow your series on CK3 John. I've been playing it quite a lot, for years, but you really use every aspect and possibility of the game. Dynastics politicsa economics and warfare, alternating between intrigue and diplomacy. In a manner that I realize that I do not. And, given your personal style of play, this has really evolved into an addictive, historical drama one cannot stop watching. It's a binge-watch for usre, rivalling the historical dramas on Netflix and the like. Complete with perfect narrative - modest start, dark years when you almost gave up on Sweden, now aspiring in triumph. Many thanks!

So, if you want to take on England, you start by avoiding conflict with England. You need to become England's main rival in the British Isles, so, to start, you need a foothold. Ireland still has a couple of weak, independent counts, so I'd recommend starting there. Since England holds little to no territory there, it should be easy to expand within, as well.

Best way for vikings to get prestige is to form raiding bands - once you return to your territory with loot, that loot grants both gold AND prestige. Can lead to insanely fast takeoff of your empire, with a few successful raids giving you enough prestige to form vast hordes of forces. I was smashing apart the armies of Cordoba, Byzantine, and the Abbasids in only a few generations thanks to this mechanic - honestly felt like cheating.

By the way, Jon, there's a better version of the giant trait. It's the hale/robust/herculean trait tree (It gives massive health bonuses instead of a penalty) Pretty sure those characters are also huge (and definitely give the same or better prowess bonus) but I think you can inherit both giant and herculean, I'm unsure on that.

@@knowpainnow just by playing CK2 or 3 you're pretty much already hopelessly op. I started as a duke in France and two hundred years in playing at a very relaxed pace because I don't care about painting the map my empire already stretches to Kiev and on multiple occasions I've discovered without the game telling me I'm in a war for places I didn't know I owned, because I've reached the point where my empire expands if I sit there and do nothing. And that's with run of the mill Catholic feudal vassals who don't have access to the kind of CBs that let a count conquer all of Norway in one go. Conquering the world would just be an exercise in tedium as everyone of my kids just grows up and takes the learning focus to fund a never ending series of holy wars, because at this point about the only other Catholic rulers left are Venice and the Pope, both of whom I can conquer at will with de jure claims, and the Pope might actually be able to put up enough of a fight I have to actually raise my levies, not just use only my men at arms and knights.

i will say, with intrigue, the seat the norway king sits on (half way through the vid depending on what happens) is precarious; with so many court subjects who potentially do not like him, assassination is a good option. actually, it does take a lot of precedent, though in the latest update they seem to have nerfed it a bit.
