The Quality of Representation discussion reminded me of something I read/watched years ago that more big budget films that are made to appeal to mainstream audiences with Black Male leads have them end up in a relationship with a White Female actors than they do with Black Female actors.

This is absolutely a trope of black male leads, when they are allowed to be romantic figures. (The same can be said for asian women.)

I was going to hold it back, since SURELY I'll want to use it for a future challenge. But, they brought it up first!

I loved Birthright, if they make a movie out that I would love to see Jason Momoa as Mikey

Thanks for checking in! Unfortunately, our time-zone math made more of these impossible to schedule, and I've been incredibly busy with CrushingKrisis throughout all of 2022 and into 2023.

I really resonated with Fariha's comment about how every time a new movie or game comes out (Wolverine for example) everyone starts demanding that it be R rated... I hate that. Will adding in some blood and swears actually make it a better story/experience, or will it just gatekeep it from a younger audience who could potentially really appreciate it? (I'm not offended by those things either to be clear)

I think about this often when I consume media now that I'm a parent. As much as I love things that are adult and profane, a lot of fiction is one set of swears away from being appropriate for more/all ages. I have to wonder, was that particular swear SO artistically important to the story? (And, I say this as a songwriter who once declined a demand to censor a "fuck" out of one of my songs for a live show, but in another case has routinely removed mention of cocaine use from another song based on my audience. It's all relative.)

I do agree although I feel that way when Logan overused a lot. I do wish for an X-men game. I mean we will have a new Wolverine game, but I'm like man I wish we have a new X-men game only. I get that not all X-men movie should be rated R, but I get why the demand and my theory is based on the comic story that could be used for a movie because some stories are pretty dark. I grew up reading God loves Man kills, and that whole story is dark based off the violence, racism (the hanging of the two African American children), and using religion as a scapegoat to commit some evil deeds. If that story was to become a complete movie because X2 played a little bit of it, then I expect that movie to be rated R.
