Thanks for saving our ears and muting that bit where you crushed the stone up with the hammer, lol! This showed me exactly what I needed to know for a project of mine, where I want to fill large cracks in a walking staff I made, with resin and crushed stone. I was thinking of using malachite or something darker green though, but the process will be the same. I found a place that sells crushed and powdered stone, but I don't need that much, and I won't be using it often, so I figured....how hard can it be? :P PS: Anyone wishing to crush malachite and use it in the way I am thinking of, please be careful, as it is toxic when powdered or in it's raw form. Wear a mask and use gloves when touching it...or just wash your hands thoroughly afterwards. Thanks for making these vids. What might be basic and straightforward to you, is new and inspirational to someone else! I'm actually learning a lot going through all of your vids, so a woodworking beginner like me really appreciates you sharing your knowledge. (I usually work in bone) Many thanks, from one creator to another. :)

TheMurlocKeeper thanks very much for watching. Also thanks for the warning about the toxic stone that's a very good point. There may be a bit of dust flying around so a respirator might be a good idea. Sam

thank you for this. after looking up stone inlay costs... i was astonished at the cost. but to make it yourself is cheap and apparently easy. time to start on some projects

Turquoise and other stone can be bought pre- crushed but I have 2 large bags of scrap from a heshi shop from years ago so I've been working on crushing some of it to sizes I want to work with. I'm also working on using red brass filings to fill any voids in the chip inlay ( also working on walking staffs TheMurlocKeepeer ).First test on a sample piece is looking pretty good.

Solo 000 Thanks, I have taken a chance buying crushed turquoise from the web' Some of it is not bad, some looks like baby powder-terrible. Thanks Sam

Yep, got a piece of 2 1/2 in. pipe and cap. Been a whole lot nicer. Come home, relax with my pipe, making larger turquoise into smaller turquoise : )

Good to know that other stones can be purchased pre-crushed because I'm trying to match the light brown matrix in a my turquoise stone that has a fine crack. Thank you!

I bet you could modify that pipe and attach it to a reciprocating saw. I believe that would crush it much faster.

When I used to hold a hammer like that, I was told I was choking the monkey. In your hammers case, you're not meant to grip your tool by its shaft.

1000 Thumbs Up! The mess I was making in the garage, flying chips and ended dumping my efforts on the deck. Searched again for a better way, a trip to Home Depot and Bam! Life is good. Thank You!

Will this technique work on other stuff? Goldstone, lapis lazuli, quartz, pyrite? Will hematite crush up with this?

Is this real turquoise or dyed howlite? I almost got some "turquoise" today but realized it was in fact dyed howlite and I am not sure how it would look all crushed up.
@sisteryaya247 жыл бұрын
Howlite is really white and the turquoise color is only on the surface so it will probably be a mix of both of those colors but mostly white.

I got this when jewelry store shut down. They assured me it was real turquoise. The color is solid. Sam

You need the pipe you have with the cap, and another, longer length of pipe, with a cap that fits inside the first pipe. You'll have to file down the thread on the cap that slides inside, you can get a wicked tight fit but not so tight it won't work as a crusher Smooth the inside of the outside cap as well, makes cleaning out easier, and don't use galvo pipe. use black steel, clean it, and when not using it cover it with a layer of soap, so it won't rust. .

OMG! I have combed KZbin looking for an idea that I might use for filling in a very fine crack in a turquoise stone bracelet and then you usde those very words, "this powder works really well when you are filling fine cracks is your project." Now, my question is what kind of adhesive should I use if any? Any suggestions? Thanks so much!
@DeepSouthSlingsDarrellAllen7 жыл бұрын
YaYa, you could easily use water thin CA glue ( super glue ), that can be bought at many online wood turning stores, or www.treelineusa.com, or if you have a Hobby Lobby near you, they also carry it. Fill your crack with the fine Turquoise dust, then very carefully drop the thin CA glue over it, let dry, sand, done. You can even take a toothpick to put a very thin coat of CA over the inlay once you've sanded it down flush, to use as a finish or top coat.

Thank you Sam . This is exactly what I have been looking for , as guidance in setting up saltwithlove , opening shortly . As you will know , it is very hard to source 1 - 3 mm crystal / stone etc powder , and anyway , self crushing fits the available , tragic , budget . When you opened with a Bob Dylan quote , I knew I was in the right place . Thank you so much for this tutorial . Here is the only , licensed , studio recorded full version of this song . Not even Procol Harum have recorded a studio version of the full , beautiful song . Unbelievable , but true . saltwithlove Instagram has started , but the website is not yet open . You have been such a help , I am going to credit you when the website opens . Thank you , and much love from London . .drive.google.com/file/d/1UZiULpExpwUGjEG6ceFAReAqVeDQfkRa/view

Grant, this is one of my All-time favorite songs. It is hauntingly beautiful. The version you sent is a great rendition. (This sound like Nora Jones)??? I never really knew anything about the meaning or origin of this song. So I need to do a little more research. I am happy when I can inspire or influence those who see my videos. I look forward to seeing the website. Please send me a link. I will leave you with, "Yesterday is just a memory, tomorrow is never what it's supposed to be." of course Robert Zimmerman Cheers Sam

@@WYOMINGWOODTURNER - thank you .. You have definitely inspired me , be sure . I am now , well , assembling everything in your video to start trials myself , and with other crystals / stones . Yes , this song . Her name is Charlotte Algar , and she was the , difficult , choice from a regular crowd at an open mic i go to , Noteworthy , at Paper Dress Vintage in London .Here's the thing : upon first hearing the full version , I was not just blown away by the beauty of verse 3 and 4 , but wanted to hear a woman sing the full version - so many have sung this , the most played song in public , ever . No woman had , it appeared . It has since become clear that nobody has . So , I contacted Bucks Music Group , the copyright admins , and , 11 months later , after many dramas , they gave Permission for a single release . They did not give the video permission , and as they didn't say why , i didn't ask . It became clear , as i discovered the back catalogue of Procol Harum , that they have never recorded a studio version , and only ever played the full live , and then rarely .I never thought they would give permission , given this , but they did , available now on iTunes , Spotify , bandcamp etc etc - you are excused , btw . It is so hard to promote , as a song is essentially invisible without a video , but I'm working on it . You have an amazing looking workshop - do you have anything like ''bog oak'' over there , 3000 yr old wood from flooded bogs . We have some in Norfolk , and Ireland has some . I am looking to turn some cabochons of same , for saltwithlove . Anyway , have a good day - here's Charlotte : .kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJjCl2CQhsZ4d6M . kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHitk4Fto6eVadE .
