Nanny and the Moose - Crushing Their 80’s

As we grow older, we sometimes notice a growing difference in the way our children (and grandchildren) relate to us. Does the fun and closeness change or stop when we enter our elder years? One 65 year old woman says that her daughter now treats her like an”old woman” Today, Nanny discusses this topic….and what she calls The Circle of Love….her explanation of what sometimes happens to the close bond between a mother and her child as the mother ages. Nanny also discusses a glitch in her rock painting…and shows us some new fashions. ❤️

This sounds so familiar. I would never put my daughter under obligation to me because I don’t want to be a burden or a duty. I’m always fine when she calls me, which is every two or three weeks. But we did used to have a lovely close relationship until she married and had her own children , who are themselves grown up now. It’s the circle of life I suppose.

My oldest has a good career, husband children but I feel estranged from her. That bond we had has gone and it’s hard work keeping in touch. I supported her growing up with activities, school etc but she then went to uni and gradually I was last on her things to do. My only consolation is that I hope it was how I raised her that she has become the confident wonderful mother she is.

I’m very lucky to have my daughter and son. My daughter will call me everyday and we still go out either dinner or dancing. And I’m 82. My son will take me out for coffee once week. But that old saying is very true. Your daughter is yours all of your life and sons is your till he takes a wife. But I’m very thankful to have them in my life. And same goes for grandchildren.

I’m pushing into my 70’s and trying to adjust to the changing dynamics of my relationships with my two adult children. I must thank you for helping me to understand the situation and to change my perspective. Your message came at the perfect time. I really needed this video. Thank you. Wishing you and your loved ones many Blessings. 🙏🏼💜 Oh! And I love BOTH outfits on you!❤

While watching your video I suddenly realized that I am the same age as my mother when my father died. I was the child who took on the caretaker role of her at the time. I remember that I would go out of the normal amount of TLC , and how she did seem to be in a more fragile state. She did have some health conditions, and eventually developed diabetes. We became more like old friends and tried to do fun activities, going for lunch and shopping, some travel, etc. I remember one time when our town had a big snowstorm, mom said "Let's walk downtown and have Chinese food, it's so beautiful and fun to walk through the freshly fallen snow". That's the how she was at times. I thought, mom's old and shouldn't be out walking in the snowstorm, let alone, eating Chinese food, but we did anyway, and I still remember that night. Anyway, point being I thought she was older then, so I guess I'm old now, huh? Anyway, I go in next week to get my annual medicare wellness checkup. Hopefully I will pass with flying colors. I'm afraid to go but will go anyway. My insurance company will send me a $100 gift card if I go, so there's that. I love your outfits today. Both very nice. Shamu looks good. Seems to have made a full recovery from his/her brush with the rooftop coyotes. I enjoy seeing the progress report on your nativity scene rock painting project. I love the special rock you painted for the rock shop. Wonderful! Thank you for the video. Take care and have a great weekend. See you next time. MJ♥️🐈‍⬛🍅🥤👘🥻

It is hard and sometimes we can feel left behind , they do love us just the same as before, we can’t be centre stage for ever . Love your views on life . I often think of my mother and how she must have felt, I hope she didn’t feel hurt . Hugs to you and moosie 🥰

Dear Nanny you touch on the important facts of life so succinctly to remind us of how the circle of life affects us all at some stage . I also had a wonderful mother , she had been a nurse in the 30’s specialising for a good part of her career in a busy TB hospital, which forged for her and passed onto me that we should always be grateful for our good health and to do unto others as you would have them do unto you. As she grew older I really don’t think I thought of her as ‘old’ I was seemingly too busy raising my family and working to notice I’m ashamed to say, until that is her health deteriorated gradually into her 80’s and we all had to face the fact Granny was ‘old’ and required us all to help out and care for her as much as possible. Now I’m in 83 (goodness where has time flown too?) I’m so grateful for good health and a positive outlook on life thanks to my wonderful mother ❤ .

Hi Nanny! Boy did you hit a sad subject for me! We have 2 daughters and a son. I'm 77 years old (same age my mom was when she passed on). I always felt so close to my kids, even when they were teenagers, then, college separated us, and then marriages took place and grandchildren. I grieved for my mother big time for 10 years after she passed on, But, now I am grieving for my children (daughters especially) because now they have teenagers and they are very busy (for a long time they didn't even return phone calls and then I learned how to text). I know they love me...they are all 3 good kids and try hard to do all the right things, but I still grieve for the days when we were so close. Grief is hard, and yes, acceptance is key, but sometimes it's just so sad to know that things will never be the same. I have great comfort from you and others on KZbin, because I feel that you all are my friends... so KZbin can be great therapy and I hang on to that and painting (it takes you away from all the negative feelings). Thank you for this video! So sorry to write too much!☺🥰

you a talented lady. think the rock painting is great. i totally understand about the "kid situation" , only i have sons, and they call everyday. we don't get invited to lot of their "get togethers" because mu husband is in a wheel chair, and we are 81 yrs. old, and it is just easier on everyone if we stay home. which i have completely accepted.i know they love us. which is what matters the most.!

Oh Nannie!!! Please don’t alter your beautiful blue and white pants set!!!!! All you need is a chemise to go under it, otherwise it is perfect just as it is!!! I absolutely love this outfit and so wish I could find an identical one for myself!!!!! I also adore the first outfit you had on with the colorful long top and the white pants!!! I totally understand the scale situation with the painted rock nativity set!!! If the size proportion of each piece to the other isn’t right it just ruins the set!!! I can absolutely understand the difficulty in finding just the right rocks!!! Sending lots of love and big hugs-🌸🌼🌺

My daughter and son are more protective of me and think they must hear from me daily and if they don’t they call my friends to see if they have talked to me. I turn my phone off when going to a doctor and forget to turn it back on right away. There is 750 mi from my daughter and 400 mi to my sons . I’m almost 77 yo and still drive and care for myself. I appreciate the caring from my kids but sometimes I want to scream “ I’m not a child and take care of all my finances and self care, so l don’t have to answer to you.” I’m super independent and it’s hard on my psyche to be treated like a child that I’m not. Thanks for this video I’ll try to be more understanding of my children. I know it’s out of love but I sometimes see it as wanting to control me. Love your rock painting. My hobby is jewelry making. I’ve been a crafter since childhood and will be until I die. No time for depression, I’m way too busy . Please give Moose my blessings. Sending blessing and love to you as well. Until your next video I’ll be busily waiting.

I guess that I am lucky because my only child, a daughter, phones me every morning to chat while getting ready for work, and we text throughout the day too. I raised her on my own so we are very, very close and we are best friends. It would break my heart if we weren't closer because many kids regret not spending time with mom and dad when mom and dad are gone.

Nanny, this was very nice. I'm 63 now and we have four daughters, I soooo miss our grocery shopping days together. Our secondborn and I would go to the grocery store every week, talk to the WWII vets, go get some tea and fries at sonic and watch our favorite white horse and goat in the back of sonic, they were like our own pets. We used to have a ball! Now things are very different. Much like you describe, not too many phone calls if any from our two oldest. Our thirdborn lives down the street and she is very good about phone calls so that is very nice. Our youngest daughter, an adult lives here but is very busy. We are a lot alike actually, both artistic etc. and we do have nice kitchen chats these days, she won't be here much longer but will be close by. Life is so strange, Nanny. Sometimes it makes me sad but I try not to dwell on it, I try to count my blessings and enjoy hobbies and hubby but it is hard when I analyze it at all. I will say, my husband and I are very close and are running buddies! That is such a blessing, much like you and Moosie. : ) ..And oh but those grandbabies. Oh my heart! And girl, I love your blue and white outfit, the colors are beautiful on you and I think that top is very flattering. Just lovely. Have a sweet day, it's so nice to hear from a sweet lady who has trod some paths in life. Please come over for coffee or tea at my blog, I have some sweet pics in this blog and the last one, in fact the last one has a pic of one of our daughters, the grocery store buddy shopping with me back when! : ) Your friend, ~Amelia My Forest Cathedral

Love your outfits. The blue and white pant set is so pretty and looks nice and cool. Your story about your Mom reminds me of a similar one I had with my Mom. She had trouble going into stores and/or leaving the house sometimes. I remember visiting her and we decided to go shopping. She did not want to get out of the car so I told her that we would sit there, take ten deep breaths and go in. Well, that worked. We went into the store and before I even knew it she was off to the races looking at everything. I did not want to push her at all but it was almost like a light bulb went off for her if she just took her time to see if she could do it or not. Now when we went to the casino, she had no issues at all of going. LOL. Nice memories.

I know the younger ones tuck one side of their top in their pants but I just can't seem to make that look right on my granny body. No matter how you wear it, it is a gorgeous outfit.

Hi Nanny. I'm so happy that I have an extremely close relationship with my oldest daughter but sometimes she act too overprotective. I have two daughters and am estranged from her sadly. But all relationships change over time. We go through different chapters but you are so right that the love is still there. I have to mention that you have me so interested in rock painting. Here in Michigan, one of our great lakes is lake Superior. I found some pretty ones on the beach. My daughter found a heart shaped one. You do such a great job painting yours. I love your creativity! I also love the two outfits you were wearing. You have much class! Relax and take care of you and Moosie in these hot summer days ! Hugs and ❤❤

You are so right about the circle of life. My husband and I had guardianship of our great granddaughter, when she was almost 6. We gave up our guardianship when she was 11. I really suffered and sometimes still do, empty nest syndrome. But she is with our son & DIL, who only lives 3 blocks away. Even though she sees us all the time, we see her pulling away with her own life. 👍🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Don’t worry about finding rocks for the wise men. It took the wise men about two years to travel to see Jesus, so they weren’t present right after his birth. I never include wise men in my nativity scene. I just love the blue and white outfit. You are a beautiful woman, inside and out. Much love to you and Moosie.

Hi Nanny, I loved your outfits and see nothing wrong with the fringed top. Both outfits looked fantastic on you. Your painting is nicely done. Did you minor in art or is it a natural talent? At 67, I took my first painting class a few months ago. I am still working on my masterpiece on canvas. Lol. I am childless but the oldest of five. I lost my mother from Long-term COVID in January 2022. She was my rock and I miss her every day. We were best friends. I could relate to you and the changes in relationships. I live in CNY and my older brother lives in CA and the next oldest sister lives in TX. If I don't contact them, they generally do not contact me. So I generally make the effort. It does sadden me as we were close growing up. My mother was laid back, was an upbeat and warm-hearted woman who laughed easily. I couldn't have asked for a better Mom. Thanks for this video. Hugs. Cindy ❤

Aww bless you to explain the lonely older ones of us , how we are still loved but they are busy with there families and yes we have to come to terms with our slower pace of life . Love the blue outfit nice that your lovely granddaughter giving you some help even Shamu wants to be in on the act . I luv the bright coloured top it’s so nice . You do have an eye for clothes unfortunately our weather is so bad this year in Uk raining every day and cool no summer weather up to now , so the lovely summer clothes just to cold to show them off . Your so lucky to have the nice weather , I have got a lovely friend in orange county, and was going to be transferring our business out there from the UK but as not everything goes to plan we didn’t move but I would have loved the wonderfull weather as I’m always cold 🥶nice to see you take care of yourselves you and Moose god bless you Moose and all your family and the pets 💕💕🥰ps the move to California was over 30 years ago and I’m alone and in my 80s now ,where do the years go ! 😄

Loved your video. Great video to explain how relationships change as each life expands. I was very close to my Mom through her life, she passed away a year ago at 91 and I cherish our time and miss her every day. My sister who lives far away in California had a completely different relationship seems to have not lost a thing. I guess distance can make a difference but my Mom always told me that she felt closest to me and I am one of 8 children - 2 girls and 6 boys. I was a middle child and born when my Mom was 25. She had a busy time and devoted her life to being a Mother and wife. Her loving forgiving nature was a blessing. Miss her. She was very sweet and happy like you! Thanks for sharing your time with all of us. You are a true treasure!
