I found your You Tube channel quite by mistake this evening, but oh my! Perfect timing! My 80th birthday is coming up very soon, and my daughter and son-in-law are wanting me to move into their house for safety. I recently had a stroke and I have severe arthritis.... Living alone has become challenging. Interestingly, they are giving me one of the largest bedrooms with a private bath. Your ideas are spot on. This house is a Queen Anne Victorian with stairs, of course, so I plan to incorporate a mini "kitchen" and living room, very much like yours. I'm so happy to have watched your video! What an encouragement for me! Thank you, sweet lady. You have blessed me!

👋🏾Lulu popped up tonight for me as well. I am 73 and will be moving into a similar space in a new house with my son’s family (wife, granddaughter, 3 dogs, 2 cats). My space there is located within the house, but has its own staircase up to my room and bath. Ii am inspired by what Lulu shared in her video. I am also challenged by a spinal injury which limits my mobility, so downsizing from a huge two-bedroom apartment where I only sit and sleep on my living room sofa makes sense. My only concern is that I have lived alone for 35 years. I do not want to interrupt or intrude on my kid’s lives. . .or, lose my independence. I wish you well.

This brings back good memories. Growing up my grandma always lived with us (five kids!). We didn't have much but she managed to make her room so beautiful and cozy. It was a special little get away from the rest of the chaotic house. We would fight over who got to sleep in her room. We'd sit in her big fluffy bed watching Law and order and unsolved mysteries thinking we were cool because she'd let us taste her nighttime wine cooler lol

So she chuckles at watching her kids come here and breaking some rules. No one has died from crumbs in a bed. 🤣🤣🤣 Making memories.

@@pampire13 I imagine multigenerational living would be wonderful in a home where everyone treated everyone else with appreciation, love and respect. When I was 15, my Granddad died and my Grandmother came to live with my Mother, Dad, my older brother and me. My Mother and Grandmother bickered and criticized each other constantly. My brother had a job and a girlfriend and came home just long enough to eat and sleep. My Dad sat silently by, paid the bills and kept quiet. I loved my dad and felt sorry he was unable to have a moment’s peace under his own roof. I couldn’t stand the animosity. It was a sad home, and I left as soon as I could. I never found a way to be happy around my Mother or Grandmother again. My Mother, Dad, and Grandmother are all gone now. My brother and I live 30 mins apart but rarely communicate or see each other. I’m 70 and it makes me sad to this day…

My husband and I are planning to buy an RV and travel 6-9 months of the year. Our home has 4 bedrooms, 3 full baths, an upstairs family room and a spacious Florida room- too much space for us now. We have decided to have my oldest daughter, her husband and my GRANDSON move into our home. We will be moving our bedroom and living area upstairs so that they can have the complete downstairs. It’s a win win situation. We will always have a space to come home to and they will have a home ( which is practically unachievable for young families these days). Too, we are making thoughtful renovations which will meet our aging needs in the future. We are having a junk removal company come and help us declutter three decades of accumulated stuff; and, like you, we are only keeping the most precious items that have a story. We want this home to be empty almost, so that they can fill it with their own things.

That is amazing ! My mom allowed her eldest daughter ( result of a rape during the War in Hungary ) Julie to take all of our possessions to her house in North Corona so we could pay rent before she lost it. My mother gave her 4 months rent up front. My mother was never taken to the house. She dropped me off during the summer of 8th grade to clewn one acre of horse crap, sticker bushes, rotten trees and garbage. Child services came to get me 5 months later after DISTANT NEIGHBORS filed a report of an "emasculated child seen rummaging in the garbage cans." The house had NO ELECTRRICITY, and the water was shut off 3 weeks after she dropped me off to clean the house prior to bringing my mother there as well. She evidently had a disagreement with her husband and " forgot to fetch my mom " as my sister had used my moms car to take me there in the middle of the desert. My poor HARD WORKING mother who worked 6 to 7 days a week cleaning houses to raise the eight children on her own became homeless and I lost touch with her for 4 years. Everything we owned including at least $50,000 in plants and 100,000 in collector items furniture and one of a kind paintings including my mother's brand new Lincoln was all left at the house in Norco so basically I have zero anything from my childhood except for a few photos that my other sister Eva had which ended up with her daughter Christine who gave me a few of them. So I hope your daughter and son-in-law appreciate you and your husband affording them a place to live. My father's 10 million dollar mansion in Brussels was somehow given to the woman that murdered him even though I have several different Wheels where everything including the summer house was willed to me. Somehow the Indian woman who poisoned him ended up with 500 million dollars in possessions so his six children got nothing. 😢

If I might be so bold to speculate it would be that you feel much more content & cozy in your creative, very well organized & aesthetically pleasing “ little house” than at this stage in life you would feel if you had your entire house to yourself. So many in our age group are overwhelmed & frustrated with ALL their stuff & space of which they have little use for & are no longer motivated to dust & clean & keep sparkling. Kudos to you for having it all .... enjoyable & manageable living space, financial security, family nearby , outlets for travel & fun & the list continues ... you did it !!! 😄. Be Well & Stay Safe

Right now I have a little trouble cleaning. Dust gives me an allergy reaction, so I have to take meds and wear a mask when I dust. Sweeping the hardwood floors creates the same issue and adds back pain to the total. I’m able to drive safely and would love to travel in my minivan, but haven’t successfully done it yet. Keeping the house is a problem for me, but hubs likes it. Though he’s having trouble mowing the grass this year. We’re both too old for the upkeep. 😊

I’m right in the middle of planning to build a granny flat at the rear of my home, my family members will live in the main house and I’ll have my own space in the back garden. Win/win as I age and family get to live in a house - economy for me and them. Looking forward to my next chapter of semi retired plus part time work, and I’m so excited to create my little oasis.

I enjoyed your tour. It reminds me of when we brought mom to live with us her last 15 yrs before she passed away. We made the master bedroom into her suite with her recliner and bed. She had her own bathroom. She didn’t have a kitchen as I cooked her meals and she would eat with the family. She enjoyed her space very much. She picked out all her favorite things and downsized quite happily and comfortably. Thanks for sharing with us!

Lulu, I am so jealous! I would give my right arm for a set up like yours. Just perfect for one person. You put so much thought and work into your darling little studio apartment. I too like my privacy and could live quite comfortably in that space. I live with my son and he has a little set up like yours. He has the master bedroom and bath and he added a little fridge and microwave. He is quite content and loves his privacy too. I have the other bedroom and bath with everything set up like I like. I have a the kitchen because I cook. He rarely goes in there. I make food for both of us and leave it out for him and he eats when he wants. We have separate lives, but also share time together when we want. Life is great!

Now that we are empty nesters this repurposing is a brilliant idea. We have 24 grandchildren so there’s space for live-ins. I’m a garage-sale junky and my house is eclectic like yours. Lovely💗I did almost the same thing, after my husband past during the pandemic, my son and daughter in law moved in with me. I took the large living room, separated it with 7 ft cubby shelves, had a small living area, and a small bedroom area. The large closet turned into my kitchen, and the bathroom was on the other side, blocked a few walls and I’m good. They have 2 bedrooms, the family room and the kitchen, bathroom is in the master they have. I have my front door as my private entrance , they have sliding doors that go out to a deck and stairs. I’m very content and my kids are as well. Thanks for sharing⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌻

I wish I could turn my spare bedroom into a studio apartment like this. But it would be over the septic if I built out and it’s too small otherwise. I turned my whole upstairs into an apartment and have a great roommate and would like another so I could possibly retire some day. My requirements are separate living space and bathrooms. My town doesn’t allow tiny houses. I would’ve put one in my yard as a rental.

It has a half bath, air conditioner, and tons of shelves. I lived in it for a couple of years, and have been encouraging her to add a shower and small kitchen area, then live in it and rent out her house. The rent would be almost double her house payment.

I had a problem with birds hitting our patio sliding glass door and so I installed bead curtains. Not only do they have vertically strung bamboo tubes,I saw some small bamboo tubes cut into a couple inch pieces of random different lengths, and strung with the pieces horizontally stacked and strung with holes drilled in the middle of the tube. They were in a catalogue, and we moved before I could order any,but they were really cool and had charm.Plastic is toxic, and tacky, and should be banned. The claim is now we are consuming a credit card's size of plastic into our bodies every week, with micro plastics in all the water, with synthetic and polyester clothing as one source;and PFAs in the water, even from take out containers and pizza boxes(teflon, forever chemicals),and even found in the Himalayas, microplastics in fetuses in the womb.Pthalates,BPA, and estrogen mimicking compounds in plastic are all damaging to our health;and like the canary in the coal mine, many wild and domesticated animals are smaller than us and even more susceptible. Pharmaceutical companies are required by the FDA to test their products for the levels of plastic that their products contain, because it moves into the products from their containers, and there are legally established limits that can not be exceeded. The Toxin Solution by Dr Pizzarno is one source of info, and Duke University Med.Center mailed out info in it's regular publication to Duham,N.C.residents.Some plastic has always been known to be migratory -it moves into the water with contact. The Weather Channel internet had a video that said Florida's Red Fish have been tested, and they are full of heart medication and opiods. If you love animals, and not eating poison;see about an outhouse, and a potty chair.

If you really wanted to hide the exercise room you could use a curtain installed from above or a room divider! And a little duvet cover for the bedspread will help your comforter last longer and keep it free from cat fur and dust. Also they make grow light bulbs for plants that go in regular lamps. That can help in the winter time for the darker corners. Thanks again for sharing! ✨

I absolutely love everything about this! I love the clever use of space, the functionality, the decor. And even your cat has its own space. When I watch US house flipping shows, I am often shocked at how much unnecessary space is "wasted" in the master bedroom + ensuite bathroom. Where I come from, it is more important that each child/person in the house has their own safe haven with a door to close. Even if the room has just a couple of m². Also, I think the more space people have, the more they tend to clutter the empty space with unnecessary stuff.

@@YeshuaKingMessiah most teenagers value their own space where they can do their homework, read a book, listen to their kind of music etc. Without being disturbed by a sibling. After coming home from school or work, I loved the quietness of my own room, especially when my siblings had friends over

I had a disastrous course of cancer treatment and was all but bedridden. My entire life was centered in my bedroom and the bathroom across the hall. Thankfully it is a much smaller space than the master. That would have been impossible. As I laid there I figured out a super (& I do mean super) efficient studio. I made do with a tiny, tiny 6 pack size mini fridge, carefully planned "meals" that would generate little to no trash, no leftovers and a cooler for lots of water. With a slight change of furniture lay out, maybe a change to a twin bed and an integrated kitchenette, I will be set if I ever get that sick again. I think I will do this in the master though. I have a plan in place for mobility issues if ever. 😊

I LOVE this so much!! I would love to do this. I have a huge house (six bedrooms), and it's way more space than I need. I'd love to share my house with others and make a little studio apartment for myself in the primary bedroom. Kudos to you! This is perfect and amazing!! :)

You are amazing and I am soooooo inspired ! I’m a retired teacher and have some of the same situations. I to want to downsize. No family lives with me but I can definitely use many of your ideas. I watched your video and smiled the whole way through. You warm my heart. It was like spending time with a good childhood friend. Thank you and bless you .❤️

hi Dorothy!! what made decorating fun and interesting for me, was when I stopped being all matchy-matchy. I didn't like that rule because if I loved something but it was the wrong color or the wrong shade of blue or whatever, then I wouldn't get it. now, I have no limit because I have no color scheme. it's just filled with things that make me smile!! Thank you for the tour of your cozy bedroom studio. I enjoyed it. Things we felt were necessary when we were younger we now find were never a necessity. Blessings!🙏

“Temperature fluctuations of a senior woman.” I love that. I used to refer to it as ‘my own personal tropical summer’. 😅😅😅😊 I love your living space. Great space.
