Title: Buzzworthy Ethics: Navigating Our Responsibility to Insects
Description: The talk will briefly cover an introduction on moral ideals regarding our responsibility towards insects and how we should treat them. Secondly, it will go over practical ways to apply these ethics in everyday life, including common practices and laws that are already in place to protect insects. Finally, the presentation will explore strategies for crafting compelling messages in the realm of insect advocacy, acknowledging the challenge posed by the tendency of other, more charismatic or relatable animals to capture greater attention.

Title: Shrimp Advocacy in a Changing Geopolitical Landscape
Description: The shrimp supply chain is complex and changing rapidly. In order for advocates to counter the rising consumption of shrimp, they need to know where to focus their efforts. In this talk, we identify the most relevant political and economic trends that affect shrimp welfare. Attendees will learn why most shrimp is produced in a small number of countries in the Global South and exported to a small number of countries in the Global North- and the big exception to that trend. They will also learn why economic growth, human rights violations, and mangrove destruction are driving the intensification of the industry.

Title: How to Persuade the Shrimp Industry to Change
Description: Given low consumer awareness of welfare threats to shrimps, how do you convince the shrimp industry to care about animal welfare? We introduce two interventions: a Humane Stunning Initiative to establish positive relationships with retailers, and a Sustainable Shrimp Farmers society to establish positive relationships with producers. Not only do these programs help an enormous number of shrimp, but they also establish the legitimacy of changing practices specifically to help animals, opening the door to more ambitious reforms.
