Bradley Herrman that’s awesome and thank you for sending me the video on the tensioner! How’s the brakes on yours? I have over 108.,000 on mine and the front brakes still have over double what’s necessary for inspection and the tests are nearly like new, just wondering if others are getting such long life from their brakes.
@Bradherr_
@Bradherr_ 6 жыл бұрын
Wayne, my brakes are well over 50% remaining as well. I pulled the rotors at 100k and painted the hat and calipers. I put anti-seize on all the mating surfaces as well. I was worried that at 200k when the brakes wore out that everything would be rusted together and would require replacement.

I made a video of the belt replacement as well. I ended up doing about the same thing you did, but I forgot to record the entire reassembly. I did get pretty good video of the tension adjustment.

Hi, I just replaced the timing belt on my 2014 Cruze diesel. Everything went smoothly but now it won’t start. Turns over smoothly.

Wow, not sure what to say on that one, hoping it's just something simple.Did you verify the marks are all correct still? I talked to one person that was one tooth off and it would run but barely. Remember, it's the side without the tensioner that really counts. I haven't watched yet but this other video came up, perhaps there's something there that will help kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYLRm2aHg9iEf68

Good day is there anyway I can check the timing without having a new belt? I have a cruze that's not starting and need to verify the timing. Where does the timing marks line up to on the cam and Fuel pump?
@waynenocton9749
@waynenocton9749 Жыл бұрын
Wow, it’s been quite a while, trying to recall. Pretty sure the fuel pump doesn’t need timing, it’s not an injection pump like an old school diesel, but the crank and cam markings I thought I had on the video but it’s been so long since I’ve watched it myself I can’t remember. It’s actually time to replace my timing belt too, coming up on 200,000
@waynenocton9749

Watched it again myself so scratch that, I guess the fuel pump does have to be timed.

I can see the timing marks on the crank pulley and where it lines up to on the block but can't see where the cam and Fuel pump timing marks line up to.

@@waynenocton9749 the timing on the cam sprocket is 1 tooth off from being lined up with the line on the belt.. pretty sure nothing has moved 🙁
@waynenocton9749
@waynenocton9749 4 жыл бұрын
rstebb311 sorry for delayed response, remember, the belt pulls on the non tensioner side, that’s the count that matters, it’s easy to let it slip one but super important things are right, turn the engine over by hand two complete revolutions and feel for any “interference”. Recheck marks and adjust as necessary. Don’t fire that engine until it’s right! What area are you in, Pa here.

I'm in MI. I spun it by hand many times... Reassembled everything thing.. started everything sounds fine.. I mean it's my first diesel so I'm not sure.. guess I will take it for a test drive

@waynenocton9749 4 жыл бұрын
rstebb311 one tooth off will probably run, remember it’s a single cam diesel and the other pulley is a fuel pump, but not a timed injector pump so not critical or possibly even not timed at all, not sure there. Keep us posted! How many miles? I just had to replace my oil cooler lines, a 15 min job but $70+ parts and wow, they were so brittle I highly recommend replacing them by like 150k.

Wayne , Thanks for the video. At 85k, it will be coming up soon. Just wondering if you have found a way to replace the trans fluid?

@waynenocton9749 6 жыл бұрын
David Duffy yes they have fill and drain plugs, just no dipstick and claim to need no service until 100,000 miles although my transmission was replaced under warranty at 86,000 IIRC.

Great video! It looks fairly straightforward. If you line up the marks on the belt to the pulleys, does that mean there is no need to have alignment tools to hold the cam?
@Bradherr_

I am at 123K miles and just ordered the belt and water pump. I am going to just replace those two parts now. If the pulleys feel normal they won’t be replaced at that time.

Bradley Herrman I didn’t learn anything more on the tensioner, but at the same location it seemed to be a decent tension to me. The other reply was me, I just did it from my other KZbin account in error. The older and tensioner were pricey and maybe not necessary but I figured I’d go ahead and make it all new.

I watched some videos for other Opal/Fiat engines that have a similar setup. It looks like there is an arrow on the tensioner that lines up with a hole on the tensioner bracket when the correct tension is achieved. Thank you for the quick responses!

ElJarriUSB if I recall correctly it was a non issue, there were Allen heads and a center bolt but none were hard to loosen. Our main focus was on not bending the valves so taking video suffered a bit.

Boog8302 I’m not even sure what tools they recommend, but the job was easy. It does have the possibility of damage if things go wrong but use the painted marks on the belt and it’s all good.
