This MEP part really very nearly didn't even happen at all, considering my hard drive with all my data crashed just as I was THREE MASKS away from finishing. Absolutely heinous business, but I'm so glad I was able to finish this, and I hope it's okay! Also, if you'd have told me I'd be editing with the animated Animal Farm movie, I'd have laughed at you... and yet, here I am, masking a chicken. Justice for Jeremy.
This part is for Anne's book-themed MEP, and features Margot/Meena from my absolute favourite book of all time, The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot by Marianne Cronin. How to describe how much this book means to me? I'm going to be totally honest, I really struggled with editing this part, because I genuinely don't think there's any way on earth that I'm going to be able to do this book justice. Margot and Meena's story is just a little part of this book, and it was the relationship I felt I could edit the best, but there is so, so much more to the story than just the love story. It's the most beautiful, heartwrenching, uplifting, perfect book out there, and I genuinely ugly cried the whole way through. 100/10 would recommend.
Vague storyline (major spoilers for the book incoming, so don't read if you don't want to be spoiled):
Margot was married, but when her son died, her husband left her. She tried to follow him to England, however she couldn't find him, and instead ended up living with activist Meena. The two grew closer, even adopting a chicken together, but even as Margot fell in love, the gap between their beds seemed insurmountably wide. Meena started a relationship with a professor, and eventually Margot decided to leave. Years later, on her wedding day to an absolutely wonderful man (Humphrey stans unite), Meena shows up pregnant and single. Years go by, and they continue to meet up, until Meena moves to Vietnam. I won't spoil the ending, as it would spoil the entire book, but you kind of get a taste of part of it in the video and in the quote above.
Anyway, I've rambled on long enough. Never get me started talking about books I swear!
